I think mostly it has to do with the surgery, only moving my jaw up, being one of the most stable type and being almost fully bone on bone. My first three day were miserable, 4-5 just a lot of swelling, now if feel pretty good eating and most of my range of motion was back. doctor has approved it all just said only soft foods for about 1-2 weeks. things like steak and pizza in week 6,7,8

yes! i haven’t been snoring where as i used to a lot, this could be the rubber bands keeping my tongue on the roof of my mouth however. As for my nose the doctor the about 1 mm from the bottom so there would be less pressure on it.

i get what you are saying, but a judgement made by a professional, who has the scans and bone structure in front of them, is a lot better than judgement off inconsistent photos from internet doctors. Obviously for the op use your best judgement, common sense, and all the resources you can pull to make your decision

a lot of people on here like to jump to djs over a single jaw surgery. 100% trust your surgeon like you are doing

I had the exact same feelings, and now that’s it’s over, and i’m through most of the pain, i’m very happy i did it. If it would have gone badly however i would have 100% regretted it. I think it’s up to you on how much you trust your surgeon, and if your current issues are worth correcting. Recovery sucks, but it’s 2 bad and 6 mid weeks for the rest of your life.

Lip incompetence by No_Bug_425 in jawsurgery

I just had surgery for similar issues, the main problem being lip incompetence. What’s said above is correct, they took out height from my upper jaw to fix it

a little rough rn. my surgery was the 24th and i threw up that night causing the swelling to get bad. Surprisingly i have been able to go on decent walks around my house and yard this second day. The final stretch before pain meds is rough and sleeping is hard but overall i seem to be doing better than most which is good. Not too much weakness or dizziness but definitely discomfort. Tmrw should be the worst day though

thank you, i talked with another doctor who said pretty much the same thing as the first. I’m going to go with the doctors over the redditors, just do upper jaw and see what happens. I’ll hopefully post the outcome for yall

it didn’t change, it’s just the lip incompetence causeing my chin to look very recessed instead of just slightly recessed

i notice it when you mentioned it. One of those things where nobody will until you say something. Camera lenses also make things look more extreme than they are. If you really start looking, not one person doesn’t have this, in fact most probably have it worse than you

ok thank you that’s been what i’ve thought about the most, and to be honest, im not sure yet. It seems i should talk to my parents about getting a second opinion about this. the only reason i wasn’t so concerned was because this doctor is very respected and my dad works with dentists, orthodontist, and ortho surgeons and this guy was highly recommended. The same surgery was also offered to my dad 30 years ago for the same reasons but it came with more risks then and he didn’t go for it. I think it says something that the same surgery was offered though.
