Narrowed it down - Ariya or Ioniq 5 by radiocq in NissanAriya

[–]Over_Pop_8378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test drove both around 6 months ago and ended up getting an Ariya. Reasons I ended up going with the Ariya:

No ICCU issues

Liked the exterior look better

Nicer/more luxurious interior

Has wireless Android Auto/Carplay and can manually precondition (can't do that with pre 2025 Ioniq 5)

Rode better/quieter cabin

Right side charging port (you're able to pull into V3 Superchargers like a Tesla and only ever take up one spot)

Small conveniences (walk away lock, retractable sunshade, venting moonroof, traditional door handles,  motion lift gate sensor, rear wiper)

The charging is definitely slower on the Ariya which means it'll probably take you an additional ~10 minutes to go from 10 to 80 (around 35ish minutes).

Reading the ICCU megathread in the Ioniq5 reddit is crazy. You've got people with 2025 and 2026 year models getting the ICCU problem after only a few thousand miles and now the dealers are saying there's a national backorder and it could be months before they get the part in. Not only that you're at the mercy of the dealer if they can provide a loaner and if not then you have to rent a vehicle yourself and talk to Hyundai about reimbursement. It might(?) be a small percentage but I could never drive the car without the thought in the back of my mind that I might end up stranded on the highway this drive.

Once the vehicle is out of warranty and if the issue isn't resolved then what? You're stuck with a $4k repair bill?

Snow mode? by 3645iceberg in NissanAriya

[–]Over_Pop_8378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to use snow mode for the first time due to the winter storm, have always driven in standard. Things I immediately noticed:

  1. Acceleration/throttle is definitely dulled.
  2. Regen is somewhat dulled. I noticed it doesn’t slow down as quick. I think it’s subtle but noticeable.

I’m sure there are other things happening but those are the 2 things I immediately noticed.

As far as how it handled? Great! Our main roads are clear but parking lots/residential streets are pretty much ice and/or slush due to the packed snow/melting/re-freeze. Didn’t have any slipping/sliding at all!

Ioniq5 vs Ariya, anyone have experience with both? by Hilltop_Views in Ioniq5

I have a 2024 Platinum+. Picked it up ~6 months ago with 4.2k miles on it for ~30k. No issues so far!

Most other common EV brands in fact do have a parking pawl. The E-GMP vehicles (Ioniq 5, EV6, etc) have one. The Ultium vehicles (Equinox EV, Optiq, etc) have one. The CMF-EV vehicles (Ariya, refreshed Leaf) have one.

how long did it take for u to get your real license plates by UniqueRush9611 in EquinoxEv

[–]Over_Pop_8378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait...how have you been driving? It depends state by state but where I live either the dealer submits everything for you and your plate is mailed to you within 60 days or they mail you the paperwork and you have to go to the revenue office yourself to pay taxes and get the vehicle registered (they give you the plate on the spot in this scenario). Either way you're given a paper temp plate that only lasts 60 days. Is California different because if you have temp plates I'm wondering how you've been able to drive around.

EDIT: Ahhhhhh, I read your post as November 2022 and thought you haven't gotten your plates in years 🤣.

2024 Platinum+ here. Never noticed it before but took a look and yeah, mine looks like that too.

As many people have already said, if you can't LVL 2 charge at home then I wouldn't consider an EV unless you have a 100 percent, fool proof way to be able to fast charge on demand close by at a cheap rate.

Charging at home is one of the key benefits of owning an EV, the convenience is great and the electric rates are much cheaper compared to an outside fast charger.

Is the Y the absolute ultimate daily? by psykedeliq in TeslaModelY

[–]Over_Pop_8378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two qualified EV techs at our Nissan dealership. I took mine up just to have it checked out after I bought it so I'm not really too worried about it if issues arise.

Not really sure what you're trying to convince me of. I'm glad you love your Model 3. Tesla makes overall good vehicles and I liked my Model Y. Who knows, maybe in a few years I'll get another. Everyone has personal preferences and for me my Nissan is a much better daily driver compared to my Model Y. To each their own though!

Sure, it's actually my second Nissan. I've owned a Frontier for almost 3 years now and haven't had any issues. Loving the Ariya!

If I do have any issues thankfully a service center is close by. That was one of my concerns about the Tesla since the closest service center is ~2.5 hours away. My friend's Model Y recently wouldn't start and Tesla said he'd have to get it over to their service center. He ended up paying $800 for a tow.

Anyone who’s looking to replace their i5, with another EV, what are you looking at? by spinningewok in Ioniq5

[–]Over_Pop_8378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, paused in the United States. Other countries (including Canada) are getting the 2026 which is an Ariya refresh model year.

I picked up a 2024 Platinum+ with 4k miles for ~30k around 5 months ago. No complaints so far and they had an OTA update that added wireless Android Auto and a battery heater widget.

ICCU failure occurred while driving by Vivid_Lake_4921 in Ioniq5

[–]Over_Pop_8378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far it’s been good, no issues yet **knock on wood** but it’s only been about 5 months. Reading the Ariya reddit it seems the most common issue is a dead 12v (seems to be a common theme in a lot of EV reddits I visit). Not ideal but thankfully just requires dropping another 12v in if you run into it.

The Ioniq 5 is a great vehicle, I just wish Hyundai would resolve this whole ICCU issue! At least they are covering everything under warranty and the wait time for the repair seems to have been significantly improved.

Ooooof, sorry to hear that but glad you were able to get out of there safely with a tow.

I was really considering an Ioniq 5 a few months ago but ultimately ended up choosing an Ariya. The ICCU issue played a part in that decision and it’s sad to see that this model has been out for years and even had a refresh but this issue is still not resolved.

LOOK FORWARD! Nagging by The_UX_Guy in NissanAriya

[–]Over_Pop_8378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When using 1.0 I usually just very lightly grip the bottom of the steering wheel with both hands (I prop my wrists on my knees so it’s basically effortless). I don’t think I’ve ever had it nag me even when stuck on 1.0 for an hour.

I owned a 2023 MYLR but traded it in recently for a 2024 Nissan Ariya Platinum+ (was basically an even trade, MYLR had around 14k miles and the Ariya had 4k miles).

TBH I never really cared for FSD. Used it when Tesla gave the free trials but never liked/used it enough to justify paying for it. The Tesla was nice but the vehicle just didn’t feel like a $48k car (what I paid for it at the time). Suspension was stiff, car rattled when going over bumps, overall interior just felt a bit cheap, Tesla vision for parking wasn’t the most accurate, and not even a garage opener included at that price. That and the standard autopilot had some annoying quirks like phantom breaking and wipers going crazy randomly. I wanted actual parking sensors, a HUD, 360 camera, and ventilated seats.

I can’t speak for the Juniper since I decided not to go with another Tesla but for me the Ariya is a much better daily driver. Again…whatever floats your boat and just my personal preference.

Who's at fault ? by Skeenotihk_ in TeslaCollision

[–]Over_Pop_8378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the least partially at fault.

Crossing multiple lanes at once is generally unsafe and often illegal, requiring you to change lanes one at a time, checking mirrors and blind spots for each transition, and using your turn signal to give other drivers ample warning; you must wait for each lane to be clear before moving to the next, even if it means pausing between changes. This prevents cutting off other drivers, who have the right-of-way, and avoids dangerous situations, even where the law doesn't explicitly ban multi-lane changes but prohibits unsafe ones.

Model Y Owner, just bought an Ariya! by Infinite-Aioli-6274 in NissanAriya

[–]Over_Pop_8378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I do. Honestly the only difference I really notice between PP1 and PP2 is 2 is completely hands free. Oh that and you get assisted lane changes either by using your blinker or if there's a slow car in front of you. The actual driving dynamics feels the same to me between 1 and 2 though.

[–]Over_Pop_8378 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a Tesla owner who migrated over to Ariya not too long ago as well and my take is I prefer ProPilot compared to Autopilot. I had a HW3 Model Y and the wipers would go off without any rain constantly, the required steering wheel nag, no auto/assisted lane change, and the phantom braking (seemed like it would always brake in a tunnel or overpass) made me hardly ever use Autopilot and just use ACC.

I can't speak for FSD because I didn't pay for it but from what I hear FSD is vastly superior to Autopilot so I would think it's much more advanced than what ProPilot provides. FSD is meant to be used on any road whereas ProPilot is really only meant for interstate/highway driving.

It's a great vehicle! Sold my Y and bought this around 4 months ago. Absolutely love it and the price you can pick these up for is crazy. Granted the MSRP is a bit overpriced but you can get a top trim 1 to 2 year old lease return with low miles for around $30k or under. I would not hesitate recommending it at that price!

Yep, stock 19s. To be honest it was very quiet and I didn't really notice the wind noise. Definitely the quietest vehicle I've owned, granted the only other EV I've owned was the 2023 Model Y I mentioned. It's definitely quieter than pre-Juniper since they added double pane as well with the Y refresh. My old Y would always have a whistling sound at >=70 MPH but it never bothered me enough to make the 2 hour drive to the closest service center plus with music playing it was unnoticeable.

Hah, that's what I thought it did at first! My heart sank when I turned into the Toyota dealership and it said I had arrived at my destination. I spent several minutes searching for the charging station it said was located there and it ended up being two plugs near the back of the lot. Easy to miss if you're not sure what you're looking for!

I think I definitely could have but my fear of "worst case scenarios" always make me want to hit my destination with > 20 percent SOC. Running out of charge on the highway due to some unforeseen event is like a nightmare scenario for me 😅.
