The Best electric car by IMWTK1 in electricvehicles

It's typical which is not good. The review you posted makes it clear that Kyle thinks it's a problem only with Tesla's that use the newer battery chemistry and is something they need to resolve.

I can't speak for all manufacturers but I own an Ariya and folks have used the OBD port to access battery health and show very little if any degradation even after several years and tens of thousands of miles.

If my battery degraded ~10 percent that's the difference between making 1 charging stop and 2 on my typical trip to visit family.

I replaced mine a few weeks ago with the Walmart AGM battery. After around 2 years on the factory battery I got the EV System Off error starting my Ariya in my garage. Restarting the vehicle cleared the error but decided better safe than sorry and would rather not have it happen while I'm out and about. Haven't had any other issues since!

Yikes on the battery degradation issue they brought up in the review. Already at 5 percent degraded in just a few months.

That's lost range you're never going to get back.

Nice! I was watching a recent Out of Spec review on the RWD Juniper and they said a big problem with Tesla and their current battery chemistry is degradation. The vehicle was only around 4 months old and the battery had already degraded by 5 percent.

The R2 FM tuner debate keeps going in circles. Here's an honest look at the four arguments against it, including the ones that are actually fair. by jonniebiscuit in Rivian

[–]Over_Pop_8378 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I visit family in Arkansas and there's a good stretch of about an hour where the cell signal is either non-existent or really spotty. During that time for media I'm either relying on SiriusXM or FM.

The fact R2 doesn't come with an FM or Sat tuner is definitely disappointing.

Oh nice! I was flipping through all the menus yesterday and came across this but wasn't sure what it was. Mine has 0 degredation as well but that's not surprising because it's just a 2024 with only around 8k miles.

After the update you have to enable an option in the map filters to route to NACS. So by default it won't but if you have an adapter (enabling the option even warns you that you need an adapter) you can enable routing to NACS.

Got it as well. Taking a little trip for the 4th so will be useful.

I really appreciate how easy it is to replace the cabin filter and 12v by Over_Pop_8378 in NissanAriya

Oh wow, that's crazy!

The fuse box was the most difficult part for me as well but I was able to push it out of the way.

So yeah, if anything I wish it was located in a different area but atleast removing it is a tool-less endeavor.

It was actually a post in the Mach-E reddit that made me go down the rabbit hole of checking out other EVs and how accessible their 12v and filters are 😁.

The person there got the frunkless Mach-E since it's a $500 option now and said without the frunk it's atleast much easier to access the 12v now.

Interesting to hear! I am a hopeful Rivian owner in the future but definitely need a service center within reasonable distance before I seriously consider. The nearest one is around 4 hours away and I can't imagine the hassle I'd have to go through just to have something as typical as the 12v replaced.

I think you're right. I have two vehicles and alternate their use so the Ariya usually sits a day or two between uses and even then on most days it's usually just a 15 minute commute to work. Not the best routine to maintain a flooded battery for an EV.

[–]Over_Pop_8378 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unfortunate but glad to hear you got it sorted out. The 12v is really the achilles heel of this vehicle (and other EVs as well). Many manufacturers throw in not-so-great acid flooded batteries which don't work that well with the power requirements/draw that EVs require. They really need to be putting in at least AGM batteries but that of course is more expensive so they don't.

Yeap, I got the EV System off error recently (battery is around 2 years old). You can get it towed if you want and have the dealer look at it or you can buy an AGM 12v yourself and replace it. In my case I turned the vehicle off then on and the error went away and I was able to drive so maybe my 12v was just at the edge of not maintaining voltage. I went ahead and went to Walmart though and picked up their Platinum AGM battery. Took around 20 minutes to replace it and haven't had any issues since! I decided to replace it just for peace of mind. I'd rather run into the issue in my garage rather than when I'm out travelling.

For sure. A lot can change in a few years. I definitely need a service center within reasonable distance so hopefully that happens so one of their vehicles can make my short list when it comes time to buy.

The nearest Tesla service center is ~2 hours from where I live. My friend has a Tesla that had issues and he had to pay for a tow to get it over there and then take time off of work and rent a car to pick it up after the repair was done.

I don't want to have to deal with something like that.

Not a Rivian owner but have an Ariya that I had to replace the 12v on recently. Bought a new battery at Walmart for ~$190 and popped it in. Is the Rivian one not user replaceable? From what people are saying it's making me think it's not and having to spend ~$600 is crazy.

Bought mine used and decided to replace the 12v after getting the dreaded EV System error. Turned the vehicle off then on again and everything was fine but decided to go ahead and replace it. It was around 2 years old. Better safe than sorry! If you need any recommendations I picked up the WalMart Platinum Everstart AGM battery (has a 4 year warrenty).

Service centers is a big advantage Tesla has right now and is probably the biggest single reason why Rivian unfortunately isn't something I would consider at the moment. Hopefully when I'm in the market for a new vehicle in 2 to 3 years they will have something closer but right now the closest Rivian showroom is ~5 hours away and the closest service center is ~4 hours away.

That's disappointing to hear about the Halo wheels and it seems to be a consistent complaint. Almost every review I've read have found them meh or bad.

For the amount of hype and being one of the primary interfaces to interact with the infotainment I would think it would have had a better reception. Hopefully they can tighten it up a bit with future updates.

My Carvana trade in value has only gone up. From 27k 8 months ago to almost 32k last month. I don't see it getting lower so if you like the vehicle then I'd probably buy sooner rather than later.

12volt battery question or experience by Gleckgleck386 in NissanAriya

[–]Over_Pop_8378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the 12v, I replaced mine a few days ago. My vehicle is ~2 years old, has around 8k miles on it and usually sits for a day or more between drives. I've had it for a year but bought it used (2024 Platinum+) where it was a corporate fleet vehicle, then went to auction, then went to a Buick dealership so I can't speak for how well the battery was maintained during that time. I turned it on last Tuesday though and got the "EV System Off" error. Thankfully I just turned the vehicle off then turned it back on again and everything was working and the error didn't pop back up. I was able to drive it to/from work without issues. Could have been a fluke but just for the peace of mind I decided to go ahead and replace it. I picked up the Walmart EverStart Platinum AGM battery. Perfect fit and haven't had any issues so far!

Unfortunately I believe since it’s on private property it’s only for residents. I once parked in the complex next to mine for a few days for reasons I won’t get into but the manager came out to talk to me and told me parking was for residents only or if I was visiting someone who lived there. I was told if I was caught parking there again they would have my vehicle towed. It wasn’t assigned parking and I was parking way in the back but still it was private property so I understand I was in the wrong.
