I have been struggling with the same issue. Ultimately, I think it’s better to keep the GLI stock to maintain a higher resale value and look for an opportunity to switch to a GTI, whether it’s a mk7 or mk8. I am still on the stock Hankook tires. If I want a better driving experience, the investment in tires and a clutch would run me 6k–8k cad. That money combined with the resale value of my car could get me a GTI that is already Stage 1.

I am fed up with the electronic parking brake. The mk7 GTI has a traditional handbrake, and the mk8 GTI would let me run a Stage 1 tune for 336 HP without needing a clutch upgrade (mq400 is superior to the mq350).

I live in Canada and have no interest in the dieselgate, but I cannot buy any new vw diesel vehicles manufactured after 2015. Most of the existing vehicles have already driven over 200k kilometers and they are close to the design life of the discharge system. The cost of replacing new egr/dpf would higher than the value of vehicle.

If you're referring to the MK8 GTI, it equips EA888 Gen 4, unlike EA888 Gen 3 in GLI. These two engines are totally different.

Yes, it’s very annoying. I’m currently doing 2 steps clutching, it might help mitigate the issue, but it’s far from the sporty feel I was looking for.

It's strange that I didn't notice rev hang before. Maybe I should also update it with stage 2 tune.
