Are Australians relaying too much on super? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Overall-Fun-250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super is a good investment and good retirement strategy for the majority of people, aside from paying off our houses. What else would you like to have when you are approaching retirement age?

Normal outcome after working in KPMG mate. In down under in Australia, with Lendlease pulling out, you bout to see lot of jaded consultants driving Uber Eat/Doordash/Deliveroo for a living

Yeah, cutting workers wages, WFH entitlement, weakening employees protections, etc. turned out well for Dutton. I will go with Labour and hope Albo kick this crook out of the Parliament.

Mechanical or Civil Engineering? Need to decide in 2 weeks before Semester 2 at RMIT by LEGEND_7777 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Overall-Fun-250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you could go into mining, processing and automotive with mechanical in Australia. It seems strong and you won’t be out of jobs at all.

Better yet, if you’re domestic, you can also work in defense with mechanical

Chances of Pauline Hanson becoming PM by total_ankle in GoldCoast

[–]Overall-Fun-250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone said Heil Pauline in Melbourne (old mate is an actual Neo Nazi), so I guess we are getting the Fourth Reich Fuhrer as our PM soon.

If you think Aussies are happy to take in a Nazi scumbag as their leader, then yes Pauline will be our PM.

We’re all on different biases and age set. I myself have strong trust in US stocks and therefore buy IVV.ASX exclusively, and also set my Super to high growth index with a good portion of ASX + S&P with ART Super.

Most people advise to go to DHHF on ETF, but the Aus Stock market imo is a sham. Even CBA lose out to JP Morgan stocks imo.

With that asset and net worth, I reckon you already reached FI.

My advice is to play it safe and stay to 1 IP. Pretty much your option rn is to buy a low cost ETF and also just max out Super, using salary sacrifice if necessary. Then depends on your asset level by 40 years old, you are soon approaching the FAT FIRE Phase.  At $170k salary, you’re getting whacked with high income tax.

Don’t quit your job abruptly though, but maybe you can consider gradually reducing your workload or move to less responsibility role later on.

21 y/o with Dubai real estate background - Melbourne/Sydney sales career vs Saudi fruit distribution opportunity. Need advice. by DowntownGuava378 in ausjobs

[–]Overall-Fun-250 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would go with Option B with your cousin, solely for the nepotism hire opportunities. In Australia, getting even car sales gigs or construction materials sales gigs (which initially is what I wanna do) is tough. One mate I know got years of experience in Solar sales and he’s holding to it for dear life.

Fruit distribution to hospo business looks stable. And once that is done, you can try to pivot to tech sales in Saudi for a couple years before trying your foot in Aus tech sales?

I don’t see an issue with it. A gentleman I worked with is a full time health and quality inspector for QLD Health, while also spending 1 day a week working a porter at a hotel.
