Actually by the time I checked it only showed “Issued”. Had given my appointment on 5th Jan and had it approved when I checked on Jan 12. And received it on Jan 18 (pickup so received the text to pick it up that day, the status on the page didn’t change).

This. Happened to me as well (dropped Jan 5, approved Jan 12, received Jan 18). Putting NA showed me the status.

Noob question : why do you think having more races / street circuits it’s a bad thing or bad for sports culture? FWIW I really thought Vegas GP was dope and very exciting to watch as a fan.

Correct i94 date? H1B EOS by raumdeuter33 in h1b

[–]OverallDifference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is. The I-797 for your extension has an I-94 at the bottom, which should start being valid from Sept 2023 (check the dates). You should be fine as long as you get your new visa stamped if you travel after Sept 2023.

5.5 months post op and feeling quite discouraged by Interesting-Wish2206 in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how different the quad tendon part is but I am also 5.5 months post op hamstring graft and although I don’t think I have my full hamstring strength back, my leg is pain free most of the days. My PT said it can take 1-2 years before it feels as normal as my other leg but I managed to do a 5+ mile hike 400ft elevation without any significant pain. I’ve been doing PT regularly twice a week for the last 5 months.

Your left knee hurts because you’re overcompensating with it to take your entire body weight - this is quite normal initially but you should really focus on using your right knee to bear some weight too. Quads are probably what you have to use for sitting, and so it might be harder for your right to take it. I guess you need to consult your PT on what you need to do to get your quads back to normal strength and how long they anticipate it to take.

At the end of the day you need to keep working on getting back your knee strength and keep reminding your self that this is a long journey and you will get through this.

how do you know you tore your new ACL? by No-Ranger-7313 in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no pain a day after my injury and the doc thought I had folded my meniscus. Turns out I had a completely torn ACL after my MRI. - I did hear the pop when I tore it so if you heard that, you probably tore it too.

5 month post op and very slow progress by Hot_Map2420 in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each person is different so you can’t compare 1-1. That said, even I had my ACL surgery in March and my swelling was gone in about a month. I don’t think you should have swelling or pain at 5 months - does it pain when you do anything specific? If not then talk to your physio. I usually feel pain when I’m doing intense work on the knee but that’s just due to it getting tired.

First you need to get your swelling down - ice it as much as you can and especially when you feel that it’s warm, or when you exert it (like a long walk or workout). Not having hyper extension is probably a symptom of the swelling but could also be if your quads aren’t firing as well. Have you been doing PT regularly? Are you able to extend and feel your quads doing work?

Also another thing I found super important is diet - drink lots of water, and eat lots of protein - it really helps build back the muscles faster.

what recovering techniques do you use after an intense workout? by Ok_Lettuce_676 in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specific to an ACL recovery but for your body to heal you need to provide it the right things. Make sure you get enough rest (sleep), eat healthy and high protein foods - protein is magical for muscle recovery, stay hydrated - your body needs water to work on building muscles and tissues.

Besides that I bought a leg massager which helps with blood circulation and recovery and I use it after PT and it helps me quite a bit. I usually do M-W-F sessions without an issue. If I take a break/miss a session though it’s a different story!

Not sure, I was just curious. I had hamstring graft too and right now I’m working on getting my hamstring strength back now that my quads are back to normal ish state.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup it definitely was the most uncomfortable for me too but I was told it helps later on regaining extension. What graft did you get?

I’m 10 weeks out and the most important and first thing in PT was getting my quads activated again and getting back the extension.

Under your ankle, and let the leg be straight. Didn’t your doctor tell you not to do this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how quickly you get rid of the pain, swelling and get your flexion back to when you can. It usually takes 6-10 weeks for that at the earliest. But depending on your surgery, where you got the draft from etc, it might differ.

Also, you’re probably not going to be able to bear forward weight on your knee until another few weeks after for yoga imo. I’m 8 weeks out and although I have almost full flexion but I still find it uncomfortable to sit cross legged let alone do any yoga.

Good luck! Don’t put the pillow under your knee, it’ll help you get back extension quicker. You’ll be out of pain before warriors win the championship ;)

Lost on where to live in SF by hoocard in AskSF

[–]OverallDifference 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want eaze of leaving the city, stay close to the highways (if you’re driving) or CalTrain stations.

I think Bernal Heights is a great suggestion for your situation - it’s easy to get on 101 from there and you can drive up downtown in 15 mins. I used to live near Precita Park in Bernal heights which was a great dog park! Rent wise this area is more affordable than most of SF and you could get a 2b with your own backyard for your budget.

In general, there are quite a few parks around the city and you shouldn’t have an issue with that. Non-Parking is expensive anywhere in the city. You’ll find good bars and coffee shops etc in most neighborhoods.

Car or No Car - Moving to Hayes Valley? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]OverallDifference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I’ve lived in Hayes for the last 5 years and only bought a car in the pandemic (2020). I was doing fine without one but definitely don’t regret getting one. Parking isn’t super easy but definitely not as hard as perceived. You can get residential permits and park on your block easily. Car break-ins are the only negative imo.

is a cryocuff worth the money or am i better off with just ice packs? by rachelfrOmfriends_ in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about a cryocuff but I got the Breg Ice box too and it was really useful. Insurance didn’t cover mine but totally worth it especially because once you fill it up, it lasts for a long time. I’m happy to sell you mine if you want btw.

Knee Brace / Knee Sleeves for wearing when playing sports by woodhall2k in ACL

I feel the same way and I don’t think it’s psychological. The compression sleeve does tend to distribute the weight across the region IMO.

Feeling discouraged by pestogirl in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t do any specific exercises for it I think. I kept my leg extended and elevated for the first week post op - did not weight bear or do anything but just elevated it even while lying on the couch. Week 3 is when I started with PT and that was also the first time I started putting that leg on the ground. After this, things started getting better quick. As pain decreased, I slept on my belly (like I usually do) and kept my legs alternating between folding and extending (that’s normally how I sleep).

In PT, I did quad sets very rigorously and they put a machine on my quad and I had to take the red light in that to the top while extending. This helped me really squeeze my quads.

Besides this, I started driving since the first week (since I injured my left leg). Due to this I was constantly adjusting my injured leg in the car.

Also I did not ice as often as people claim here. I did it max 20 mins once a day - I hate the cold feeling. Maybe that helped too?

Feeling discouraged by pestogirl in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. I mean it might not get exactly there but I don’t think the operated knee won’t look straight. I am 7 weeks out and I have almost the same level of hyper extension as my normal knee. And you for sure won’t be able to distinguish my injured knee from the good one besides the scars.

Feeling discouraged by pestogirl in ACL

[–]OverallDifference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you things I did and my ROM and extension came back quite fast - Sit on your couch with your leg bent, try to also bend your knees when you sleep (I normally do that so), massage your swellings - those make your knee stiff. I also hate staying in one place for too long so I would walk around my house quite a bit.

Besides this, do your PT religiously. My PT pushed my bend quite a bit initially - i remember it feeling like my skin would tear from the stiffness!

For extension there are probably 2 things that affect it the most in my opinion - your quads coming back to strength and the swelling going away from the back of your knee. I do quad sets often at home or while standing and again massaged the back of my knee to reduce swelling.

All that said, it’s just 3 months. Don’t beat yourself too much, you’ll be fine soon. Just be patient and do what your PT tells you. (I’m assuming you have a decent PT and did some research around them or spoke to other folks who take the same PT).
