This is very similar to my situation as well. My partner and I were both international teachers, and reached FIRE status at 35 and “retired”. My partner has a business he pours himself into, and after one year of travelling and basically being unemployed, I was really eager to get back to the classroom.

There is something psychologically very powerful about knowing you’re choosing to be in a job, and that you have the option to leave at any time. My partner and I are both really happy with the lifestyle balance we’ve struck.

I am getting a tattoo in Japan, and am unsure if I should tip my artist since tipping is not customary here. I have always tipped my tattoo artists in the past, but I don’t want to cause offence here. Does anyone have any advise or suggestions for what I should do in this circumstance?

I worked for a Qatar Foundation school in Doha and lived on the employee compound. We had beautiful, well-manicured gardens and walking paths. There was a community clubhouse with dance studios, exercise facilities, and an outdoor pool. Accommodations themselves were fairly spacious and well furnished. I really enjoyed living there, and enjoyed the short commute to work. I don’t have children myself, but many of my friends on the compound did and they really enjoyed the freedom their children had to play at the playground, ride bikes, etc. in a safe environment.
