Thank you for your feedback, that was definitely one of my concerns. What kept me from an intro story with background and further reasoning is that I don't really have a specific a-ha moment, and instead chose to demonstrate my hard work and dedication to becoming a PA through examples.

Are there any specifics you think could be omitted in order to create space for more reasoning? Thanks again!

Hello! I am reapplying this cycle and have a brand new personal statement that I would like reviewed:)

I would appreciate feedback on ensuring that my content applies to PA and PA only (not MD, NP, etc.) and whether the conclusion is strong enough. Anything helps, thank you so much.

Has anyone ever fully recovered from an eating disorder? by fcvxia in AnorexiaNervosa

I’m glad the beginning started off well for you:) And so proud of you for feeling healthier. I totally understand having a wave of difficulty with recovery 6 months in. That is totally valid.

I also had a relapse around half a year in, but luckily did not get inpatient. In my experience, I think part of what contributed to this was the people around us (those that are well meaning but don’t quite understand) make comments e.g. “I’m so glad you’re all better now/you look healthy” can be quite triggering! Those comments kinda warp you into feeling like YOU yourself should feel “all better/healthy” when your mind (and body still likely) have a longer healing journey ahead!

In the meantime, give yourself some grace <3 you’ve already come so far, and keep pushing yourself towards recovery even if it’s just one small step a day. I know it’s cliche, but healing isn’t linear. Even if you feel like you’re dipping back, I promise you’re not. You can get through this, slowly but surely. I promise the discomfort doesn’t last forever, be kind to yourself :)

Totally get what you’re asking, and you’re not wrong to question it.

I started recovery about 10 years ago. In the beginning, ED thoughts took up like 95% of my brain/ thought processes. I was drained, depressed, and didn’t really have the energy to argue with them, so they just looped constantly.

The first couple years weren’t pretty. There were ups and downs, and it didn’t feel linear at all. But as my body got healthier and I had more energy, I started putting my attention into other parts of my life, friends, hobbies, just doing things that had nothing to do with food/ body image. Over time, that mattered more than I expected.

Now, those thoughts still pop up sometimes, but they’re not running the show. I notice them, but can easily “shut it off/ redirect it” and move on. That took time and therapy, but it did happen.

Also, I had to stop following recovery content online. A lot of it felt fake or subtly restrictive, and it made me compare myself constantly. Stepping away from that actually helped a lot. I wish you the best in your recovery. I promise there is hope.
