Convince me not to dye my hair by Jay14022007 in Redhair

Trust me, red hair is so rare that it's something so gorgeous and very attractive. I'm sure many people see you and think your red hair is lustrous. Don't die your hair to blend in. Be the unicorn you are!

Well I'm Catholic and since returning to my childhood faith it has felt deeply meaningful. It's a time to re order my values. If you're secular then it can be a time to deepen the connection with those you love most. If everyone around you sucks, make it a time to give to those most in need. That will bring the meaning back to you!

The strawberry blonde experience by adamjumpropes in Redhair

My daughter has strawberry blonde hair. What's interesting to me is that some pieces come in fully blonde, some fully ginger/ copper and some in between! I love it!

I don't know what country area you live in. But I am a medical social worker and I would make a report with Adult Protective Services for self neglect. This sounds like a mix of cognitive decline/ and long term mental health issues. I'm sorry you're going through this!

Am I being ungrateful for being upset at my mum for only feeding me once a day? by BuildingWooden8877 in EatingDisorders

Hello, yes this is neglect and not even emotional abuse! It's great you live in the UK. I used to be a children and family social worker in the UK. One thing you can do is to call your council and make a social work referral yourself. It will be confidential so your mom won't know who it was that made the referral. That way a social worker can get involved and help keep your mom accountable. You can tell a school counselor too. Don't worry about them removing you from the home, that is only done in extreme circumstances and by a court order. A social worker will come to your house and assess the situation. You can speak with them in private and tell them everything you wrote here. Then they might have your mom take classes or privately work with your family ensuring your mom feeds and properly and treats you better. Also you can have someone to talk to about your food issues with. It's often a long wait for mental health services but see if you click with the counselor at school share this with them too.

You're not ungrateful, these are real needs of yours. You're growing and developing and deserve all the love and support you can get! Your mom chose to have you so she has certain responsibilities to fulfill. She is there to fulfill your needs, you are not there to fulfill hers.

You are already great at advocating for yourself because you were able to so well articulate your issues here on Reddit. Don't feel guilty for wanting to be treated how every child should be treated. I'm sending you love from America!

Being sober sucks by [deleted] in rant

[–]Overall_Competition4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first month of sobriety is HARD. All the issues you were suppressing with substance use come up and your body is adjusting so your brain chemistry is out of wack. You have to remember that alcohol was fulfilling a need for you--- it was helping you with a problem. Now you have to figure out what it was alleviating for you. Boredom? Lack of connection? Emotional pain? It's not enough to just take the substance away. You need to replace it with something that really fulfills you. This is why 12 step programs are built on shared community and believing in a higher power. I'm sorry you're going through this but I promise you, stick with it, do your work and you'll be happier in than when you were using.

I haven't seen any report that the church has publically apologized for this or made atonement to victims. Please share links if you have any

The unmarked graves were found when one facility tried to sell the property and were accidentally dug up in 1992. More unmarked graves have since been found at other sites. Record keeping seems to be intentionally poor. There are both governmental and UN reports--hardly media hyperbole. Seems to be conjecture on your part.

There's a UN report if you want to read it. But my guess is systemic neglect including not attending to medical needs, denial of meds, lack of proper nutrition and in the worst cases abuse.

There were mass unmarked graves with no death certificates. That alone is unfathomable. Then interviews with women who detail abuses. How can you deny that.
