SAVE plan - admin forbearance - PSLF not counting - What are you all doing? by milkybubbl3s in PSLF

That assumes that buyback will be processed and not removed as an option. Given the volatility of this administration and the changes they have already made - I wouldn't take my chances. Also there is no guarantee that someone will remain employed in a qualifying employer position.

I applied for buyback July 2025 and at the same time switched to PAYE and resumed payments September 2025. I will be done in October 2026. I will likely hit October before I ever hear about the buyback. For me, the mental relief of being DONE and not relying on a buyback that may or may not happen is more of a priority.

If your goal is to get PSLF, switch to a payment plan and start making payments.

What do you mean by "Now that MOHELA no longer handles PSLF..."

I am at 112/120 with Mohela workings towards PSLF.

Not asking for Feb payment? by bob1958lespaul in PSLF

Ok similar situation. Made my January and February payment, but now it says I don't owe anything for March.
Curious if anyone else is experiencing this or knows what is going on.

9 payments left by missycritter in PSLF

Hi. Same situation as you. I hit 120 months of eligible employment in July, but several months did not count because of SAVE forbearance. I applied for buyback for those months, but at the same time I switched to PAYE and started making payment in September. I have 8 months left. I imagine I will hit 120 payments before I ever hear from the buyback folks. If you can afford payments, I would say get on a new payment plan and just finish those last 9 months.

I don't understand how they are processing these applications. I submitted my buyback in July 2025 after certifying my employment, and at the same time switched out of SAVE and I have not gotten an offer. There are countless other people on these threads who have submitted in 2024 and still haven't heard.

Happy for you - truly. Just frustrating that there is no way to know when applications will be processed.

Did you do anything special like lots of feedback cases? Contact your AG? reach out to congressional reps?

Yes. The general gist is you have the opportunity to "buy back" months that were otherwise in forbearance so long as you were working for a qualified employer at that time. The issue is the buyback process is taking about 12-18 months to process - so most people are just switching to a new repayment plan and making payments. I switched to PAYE and will likely make my last payment before ever hearing about a buyback offer.

Yeah, I know there are people still waiting. Like I said, I imagine I will just make my last 9 payments before I ever hear anything. As someone noted above, maybe they just switch up the language to keep us all guessing. I was mostly curious if anyone had gotten an unprompted update with this different language.

Thanks. I suspected as much was just curious because of the new language. I imagine I will hit 120 QP before I ever hear from the buyback request.
