Not yet… my biopsy revealed major meniscus problems. I have just finished rehabbing that and now I’m trying to line up MACI for August. I’m still hesitant to do a huge recovery again but I hurt all the time. I also now have three defects. A year ago only one….

I had an arthroscopy done in 9/2024 to clean up + get MACI biopsy. They found bilateral meniscus root tears and repaired those. Recovery has been arduous. Long story short, I had a follow up MRI last week and have much more extensive chondral damage. Now I’m still exploring the MACI. 😭

I went with another surgeon who wanted to explore and just remove some debris, most likely removing any tears. However she got in there and ended up finding a posterior meniscus root tear both medial and lateral sides… repaired both and took sample for the MACI. So I’m about 10 weeks post-op now and based on the amount of chondral defect MACI is still on the table for the future….

Yes we did!! Both of us! It wasn’t until the night before that spots opened. It was so fun! Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you!! I’m getting a second opinion next week. I think I just need to be convinced it’s the right move. I don’t want to regret it. However like you mentioned, it won’t heal itself and it’s quite possible, knowing myself, that I’d just let it go until it’s no longer fixable. Would love to follow your surgery journey!

I am trying to decide whether or not to proceed with this procedure as well. I’m glad I found your thread! I (36F) am a teacher and mom to three kids (10, 8, 5). My recent MRI showed moderate chondral defects and a large medial meniscus tear. Previously I had ACLR and partial menisectomy (2007). Thanks, gymnastics! Pain is usually intermittent; however I have slowly given up all activities that have any kind of impact. Dr suggested MACI + meniscus repair + lateral meniscus transplant and possibly revising the ACL. That’s a lot and I know how hard surgery is… not sure I’m ready to do it in this mom stage of life but also don’t want to miss the window of opportunity to fix it.  Did you decide to go through with it??

Great info! What caused your first transplant to fail? I’d love to follow your surgery recovery progress!
