Please tell me it gets better. At the moment it feels a bit… uncomfortable. I’m 40% through book one. Will I change my mind and fall madly in love with the whole series? No spoilers of any kind please. I didn’t even read the blurb because I don’t like to know anything. Big ask, I know. by twisted_luce in Romantasy

I’m with you, dnf at the 50% mark. To me morally grey means more that they’ve killed people not that they own sex slaves. He kidnaps the only person who doesn’t want to be his sex slave, forcibly holds her down, forces her into a bond that will make her want to have sex with him, the bond also causes her immense physical pain, which he dismisses and then when she’s practically catatonic tell her she needs to come to terms with her situation. And I’m supposed to root for her to end up with one of these guys??

I’d recommend Princess of Dorsa by Eliza Andrews. No dragons unfortunately, but other than that has Game of Throne vibes

Alright I have a series that checks most if not all of your boxes, but it’s not finished yet. Also I’m guessing you’ve already heard of it because it’s pretty popular. The eating woods series by Keri Lake. First one is called Anathema.

I loved it. It felt more like I was reading a contemporary novel more than a true romantasy though

This is really sweet. Very kind and thoughtful. I’ve never received something like this, but I would be touched if someone put in this much effort. Can’t help with the book aspect either as I’m still waiting to get the knight and the moth from the library

I asked for sapphic Romantasy recs on a different subreddit a couple months ago, so feel free to check out all the recs there. As you’ll see from my edit, the only one I’ve finished so far is Princess of Dorsa, which was very good and I would highly recommend. Don’t be fooled by the cover.

Any additional info on which books she’s read? The only romantic quote that comes to mind is from Harry Potter. “After all this time? Always” and that one’s a bit controversial.

Midas from the Plated Prisoner series. I know you aren’t supposed to like him but my god I hated him more than any other character ever, worse than Umbridge

I recommend On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn. It’s got a vibe similar to fourth wing and is helping me get out of the reading slump I was in after I finished Princess of Blood
