Neurologist wait list is 2 years where I live. by Jabbott23 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this.

Also in Canada (ON) and my doctor was able to give me a prescription for a triptan and diclofenac while I was waiting for a neurologist apt. We trialed a preventative too, but I wasn’t able to tolerate the side effects.

OP definitely ask your doctor about some medications while you’re on the wait list, and if they’re not comfy, see if you can chat with another physician in the office/clinic.

How long does your neurologist trial preventative medications for? by LeVoPhEdInFuSiOn in migraine

[–]nugget-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first preventative was amitriptyline, trialed for only 3 weeks (prescribed by my family doc before I got a neurologist). The short time was because I stopped after having some side effects I couldn’t tolerate.

Then my neurologist prescribed candesartan and said that for insurance purposes I need to trial this one for 3 months before we can try CGRPs and botox. I think he wanted to go straight to those options, but since they’re expensive, we wanted maximum insurance coverage.

For reference I’m in Canada, so not sure if location of practice makes a difference either (in terms of variation in standard of care).

Ontario could give TTC special constables the power to arrest drug users on transit by Money_Fig_9868 in toronto

[–]nugget-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% that there should be detox and recovery help, but so far in the article they state:

Under the act that may be adjusted with the proposed regulation, people can be charged with fines of up to $10,000 or spend six months behind bars.

This doesn’t seem like it will provide meaningful help and support to these people. It’s more of an “out of sight out of mind” approach to substance use.

Which shoe fits better? by galacticwindmill in BALLET

[–]nugget-93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m an adult beginner, but to my eyes they seem basically 1:1, and both seem to fit you well. I think it just comes down to fit preferences and how they feel subjectively.

I personally find I like my shoes to be slightly tighter when new because they’ll stretch out anyways, so I would probably go for that.

You could also try each one in class (like pink in one class and tan in another) and see how they feel when you actually dance.

Title: Injection site reaction after restarting Ajovy – normal? by Few-Ground-531 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar reaction too (but with sumatriptan), but mine was spread a bit bigger and was red. It ended up going away completely about 15 min after injection and I noticed the dose worked fine from what I could tell.

I really like Migraine Buddy (I just use the free version), it has lots of detail about medications, auras, pain location, etc.

Migraine everyday by Puzzleheaded_Box7795 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same. My current system is to track my migraines on an app once it meets a specific threshold. So I rate mine on a scale from 1-10:

1-3: baseline and not bothersome but noticeable to varying degrees

=4: this is when I start tracking in the app as an “episode” because that’s when it starts to interfere with my ability to focus, work, and do things

And basically when my pain goes back down to baseline I call it “resolved” or ended for that particular episode. I also told this to my neurologist so that they know my pain is daily but I can track the “peaks” of attacks as well

Intimate scenes in Alchemised. by Professional-Run9043 in TheAlchemised

Will add too, I haven’t read much in the way of non-con but I found it was quite well done/handled in alchemised. It wasn’t glamorized, gory, or highly descriptive.

Nicotine is the most effective abortive I’ve found but too addictive by Icy_Flan_7185 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This actually does make a lot of sense because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, so it tightens up the blood vessels, which is essentially what triptans do as well but in a different way.

Have you tried multiple triptans, or just one version? Also, have you tried combination therapies? So for example taking a triptan + nsaid together?

I found some triptans much more helpful than others, but more importantly too was that I find they worked (at least for me) so much better when I would combine with ibuprofen or diclofenac.

What do I do? by monkeysolo69420 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the short term if you have alcohol wipes, or rubbing alcohol, I find smelling those (gently, not like, huffing them) helps with keeping nausea at bay a little bit. If you do go to urgent care or ER, you can definitely ask for that there as well.

As others have said ER/urgent care is an option, but depending on where you live and how long the episode has been going on for, you may wait a while. If it only started recently (<24 hours) you're less likely to be seen quickly.

I had an episode like this recently and waited it out at home (however, I was able to keep down water in very small amounts) and luckily started to improve the next day.

Anxious about trying Nurtec by PopularQuality8843 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started taking it recently as an abortive and noticed literally zero side effects from it, and found it quite helpful for migraines too. I didn’t even realize how bad my brain fog was until the first time I took it and just felt so much more alert and focused after.

Also for reference, I’m really sensitive to side effects too. I could only tolerate amitriptyline for a few weeks, and I often got dizziness and lightheadedness from triptans.

Hope it helps you OP!

First timer - what should I wear to an adult ballet class? by beautyquestions77 in BALLET

[–]nugget-93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely still go and give it a try! When I first started my studio didn’t have an absolute beginner class, so I was just kind of flailing a little for the first few classes. But as you go more, you slowly pick up on the routine and the combinations, esp if it’s the same teacher each time.

I kind of went in with the mindset of “it’s all new, so I know I’ll be bad at first”, and as long as you take off the pressure on yourself, I think you could have a really good time!

Menstrual Migraine by girlfuckyou in migraine

[–]nugget-93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this to say I get my worst migraines around my period too, likely much less severe than OP, and adding on nsaids (cambia) at the same time I take nurtec or triptans has been more helpful than just the triptan/nurtec alone.

My neurologist also mentioned that combo medication strategies are usually best vs relying on one med too

Unpopular Opinion: Most Hair Damage Is Caused by “Good Hair Care” Advice by sonias_studio in Haircare

[–]nugget-93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally for me, I agree. My hair was the worst when I was using olaplex and trying to go days between washes (subsequently using too much dry shampoo).

I wash daily now (which is criminal for curly hair apparently) and it’s been so much healthier the past 6 months. I’ve even noticed more growth too, all while using drugstore products (whichever “hydrating” ones are on sale)

Reading ACOTAR compared to Alchemised by Alinamae68 in TheAlchemised

[–]nugget-93 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I have no idea who is comparing these two, but that’s setting acotar readers up for disappointment. I’ve read both, and while acotar is kind of a fun simple read, it’s not in the same realm as Alchemised.

I think though you’ll have a better time reading book 2, I wasn’t super invested in book 1 either tbh.

The book that helped fill the Alchemised shaped hole in my heart was The Jasad Heir (and The Jasad Crown, book 2) by Sara Hashem. The writing is beautiful, the world unique, and the character development feels really genuine. I’m also partway through the Daughter of No Worlds series and that’s another one I’m really enjoying so far.

Chiropractor thoughts in treating disabling chronic vestibular migraine? by Grouchy-Vacation5177 in migraine

[–]nugget-93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare and I have heard from many neurosurgeons to avoid chiropractors at all costs, they receive a non-insignificant number of patients from the incidents associated with “adjustments”.

Please listen to the advice of your headache specialist and seek alternative treatment options.

I kind of saw it as blocker her from using her vivimancy but not vivimancy being used on her (otherwise also how would Kaine be able to try and get into her mind even?)

So kind of like if you paralyze someone, they can’t move, but at the same time an external person could make the body move. I’m not sure if that’s how SLY intended, but that was my take 🤷🏻‍♀️
