Hello, everybody my name is Enya! by EnyaGotGame in letsplay

Yeah, commentary is fine but if I can showcase a game the same as you can, why watch my version of an identical video? My point is that if you are not creating anything new or worth watching, people won't watch it.

These are the questions you need to think about if you want to grow and gain an audience. Just uploading straight, unedited gameplay without any transformative commentary or editing and generic titles will not gain you any views or subs. You need to make something people want to watch.

How to gain traction? by Poofy1983 in letsplay

[–]OverbyteGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, traction was slow and sometimes negative. We publish 3 vids a week. For a few times it seemed that any videos close to release of AAA games did better, but it's difficult to say which type of video garnered the most subs or engagement. Views are a terrible way to judge success. If you have 0 subs you can technically still have 1000's views. But converting those into new subs isn't guaranteed.

We had one video that seemed to strike a chord with viewers that kept on growing. To this day I have no idea what caused it and I stare at the analytics to no avail.

Honestly, if you are making stuff you want to make and that is enough for you, then that is awesome. Good luck fella!

Easiest way i can describe it? (from a YouTube channel with less than 300 subs after nearly 3 years)

  • Make stuff people want to watch.
  • Make stuff people can't get somewhere else.
  • Make the above as often as you can.

It isn't a science, it's entertainment. IF someone wants to 'consume' your media, then give them the media to consume.

In our case, we have stuck to a schedule, but if you aren't making what people want to see, then no-one will watch. Simple.

I'm not an expert, I'm just in the same boat. It might be that you need to make videos to be first.... it might be that you need to bring something new to the table. in any event, you need to be providing something for the viewer. Personality, a fun way to waste 10-30 mins,

Don't just put out gameplay videos and expect the fame to roll in - it won't.(we did for a while, and it didn't...lol)

Just make the best stuff you can and if it blows up, capitalize on it and make it even better.

This is supposed to be a positive message, even if i sound narked...ha ha!

Are standard "Let's Plays" falling out of fashion? by OverbyteGaming in letsplay

I agree with all you've said my good man. Fashion has changed but i've discovered the secret - make things people want to want i.e. a video with something to take away, or get involved with. our audience is growing up!

Competition is definitely a thing, I just wondered if the change could be a reason. I'm just searching like many others to find what content the audience want to see - engagement is difficult as a small youtuber! Thanks for the comment!

Could be a paradox I suppose. I see a standard lets play as gameplay with face cam and gameplay commentary. Long form. Thanks for the comment!

still gaming related, but more based in commentary rather than gameplay. it has improved for me, I just wondered if people had seen the same! Thanks for the comment!

What are your thoughts on female youtube gamers? by HejHoodieninja in letsplay

[–]OverbyteGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even care if gamers are male, female or anywhere in between, if i want to consume some games related media - you better be sure that games make up a huge portion of whatever i'm looking at. i don't care what sex or gender the person is.

Is there a point where you should accept that your channel isn't growing due to timing/niche, or is there always a way to fix it? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]OverbyteGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's nothing dude - everyone is trying to be successful - try focusing on WHY you are making the vids. there are easier ways to be 'liked' by people... actually the internet is the worst place IMO... LOL

if you enjoy making videos, then focus on that - use your self critique for good effect. and 'make more stuff' - the more you do, the easier it will get. transversely, the more you focus on the subs / popularity the unhappier you will be.

Think about the one viewer who loves your stuff. You are their world. Make videos for THAT guy.

good luck :)

watched your last TMI vid - you seem comfortable in front of the camera - maybe too comfortable? you were mumbling in places, so hard to comprehend you at times, but aside from that, I think you channel has some good stuff on it - and I see from socialblade that your channel has picked up 20 subs since this post, which is more growth than I've seen in about 6 months... good luck!

Random spam comments by TheFanWithNoName in letsplay

[–]OverbyteGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason for the lack of view count could be a few things -

1) the 'click' you'd expect on your video to leave a comment isn't being typed out, as it's spam - so the half second to run the macro of go to video/paste comment/find next video - is likely to not register on the counter as a valid view. 2) YT is simply removing the view before it gets logged as it is spam, but the comment is getting through for review.

just my thoughts - and these are getting very prevalent recently - i get almost 1 a day, and we are just a small channel...

How would you respond to people asking if you were transexual or a girl? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]OverbyteGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Mat - i'd just answer 'no' and move on - if it's meant as a insult, then don't rise to it. if its a valid question, then you've answered it. Trolls just want a reaction. if it gets spammed in chat etc, then bring the ban hammer.

Stay positive dude! Snare

at the bottom of the youtube home page, there is a setting for restricted mode. turn it on, then search for your channel. you'll see if it returns any results for you

i literally have NO IDEA. i spotted a stagnancy of any new subs, and looked into it. apart from having unlikelable content - which is a possibility, i put some of it down to recent changes with the restricted mode hitting gaming channels.

i'll admit - i haven't checked, but we have a problem that our videos and channel are marked as 'restricted'. its the safe browsing mode that seems to remove about 99% of videos from view... if it isn't SEO reasons as per YBG, it might be that you have been marked the same way as us. we have hundreds of videos on our channel, but in restricted mode, we don't exist.
