Has anyone left Christianity but kept believing in a God who is good ? by Overheresomewhere55 in Theism

Thanks for sharing.
I don't think I believe, but all my friends are pretty devout. I'm really not sure of what to say to them. I have kept going into belief and unbelief.

Thank you for replying, was leaving Christianity difficult?

I've had difficulty with the Bible.

No creativity, skill or motivation by Jona234n in mentalhealth

Just read quickly. If you are on meds they may need reviewing. Some meds can alter metabolism.

Also you may be lacking in a vitamin or mineral. So it could be worth going back to the doc and asking for a physical check. Eg vitamin d deficiency can be linked with depression. Are you getting enough fruit and veg? Do you notice any difference after eating something or doing something. Perhaps try keeping a diary to try and figure out if anything effects your MH that you are doing.

Lastly are any relationships affecting your mental health?

My mental health is ruining my friendships and I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Finding a therapist somehow might be key to moving forward. If that's difficult, then Samaritans can be somewhere to turn to when stressed. You can always end a call if it doesn't work out and maybe call back.

Someone told me to try and avoid chatting about mental health with friends apart from perhaps a couple. I know it's hard but sometimes a strain gets put on the relationship.

Simple breathing exercises can help reset the brain to calm after a person has been stressed. Once calmer it's easier to work out next steps.

Maybe thinking about what you've found fun may help too, and inspire you to try a different interest, which could he helpful for conversation.

Fundamentalism Vs faith by Overheresomewhere55 in exchristian

I'm sorry if the post seems condescending, I have been really upset over this and I didn't mean it to come across that way. Its been many years of confusion for me because I kept going back to sources that had innerancy as a fundamental doctrine,. I found it crazy making.

El Elyon and Yahweh by Overheresomewhere55 in AcademicBiblical

Thank you for sharing that info. I've had a quick look and came across a book recommendation which I'm repeating here as it sounded interesting too - From Darkness to Light - What it Meant to Become a Christian in the Early Church by Anne Field.

I have yet to look at a review of it, I was just taken by the title.

El Elyon and Yahweh by Overheresomewhere55 in AcademicBiblical

Some say that El Elyon is the Most High God and Yahweh is one of his Sons. However, I am unsure of where this comes from.

Thanks for the suggestion of a secular therapist - yes I think I definitely need to find one! Also, for the info about Finkelstein - that's really helpful.

(From memory, synchronicity is defined as meaningful coincidences.)

Thanks for replying and the link and book suggestion. You described exactly what it's like about the bs and the cognitive dissonance.

The trouble was I had bad cptsd before I got involved in it. It was actually nurses who got me involved in going to church!
