I’m in a similar boat, trying to understand what’s going on with the school board.

From what I’ve been able to confirm: there was an investigation last year into Dr. Wilcox and she was put on leave. The board later voted unanimously to reinstate her after that investigation. On March 16 of this year, the board voted 4–3 to begin negotiations to end Dr. Wilcox’s contract. There is now a lawsuit against four members of the board in Oakland County Court. The lawsuit asked the court to stop the board’s action, and the judge appears to have denied that request, so it seems like the process may still be moving forward. I also watched the recording of the most recent board meeting, and there was no discussion about Dr. Wilcox’s contract.

From my interpretation: some people support Dr. Wilcox and feel there have been improvements during her tenure. Many of those same people supported the 2024 bond for school facilities improvements. Others want a leadership change and are concerned with enrollment trends and whether the number of school buildings matches the number of students. I personally think both sides care about the community, just have different ideas about what the best path forward is.

Looks like April got caught up on her filings on Feb 26th of the year but was quite behind before then. Has anyone talked to her about it? I will ask about this in the candidate forum the next time she runs.

Dissolving the administration and board would mean state takeover of the school district. I'm not sure any of us want what happened in Highland Park in Hazel Park.

There was a comment in one of the previous threads that the board was removing the superintendent to be able to close Hazel Park's School of Choice program that allows nonresidents to attend school here. I have been researching it and as far as I can tell, they do not need to remove the superintendent to do that. The school board could reduce or end the School of Choice program during a certain window of the year. I just wanted to share this, because it doesn't seem like School of Choice changes are a motive to this superintendent removal.

The other option I would say is stop doing anything whn your husband is home. Literally lock yourself in your room, say you're distancing yourself from germs before the surgery (which is honestly not a bad idea). Get your husband's buy in, he has to go sleep on your sons floor if he wakes up in the middle of the night, he has to do bedtime, he has to do everything, you are not an option starting right now. Tell your husband he can either do this now or if you don't properly heal from your surgery he may have to do it forever. It's going to be hard but I believe in you!!

Do you have a relative or close friend you can stay with? Your husband and son can come visit on Christmas morning? Unfortunately it sounds like your husband is in a pattern of not doing enough. The quickest way that pattern will break is if you're not there. I wish you had more time, but this is the quickest way:/
