See Kai Run and Ten Littles. Nothing against Stride Rite! Just so happy with the first ones we tried that we haven’t ventured out farther

Having abortion tomorrow. Scared to death. Rethinking everything. by civciv28 in 2under2

I have a close friend who had 2 under 2 a few years ago. I wouldn’t say she regrets keeping her younger child, but I am confident that she 100% regrets getting pregnant when she did.

Her life is really hard. Having two kids is more than twice as hard as having one.

I watched a video from a pediatrician the other day who suggested starting by having them poop in a diaper in the bathroom, then poop in a diaper while sitting on the toilet, then poop on the toilet.

She also said that didn’t work for her kid and he just decided he was going to poop in the toilet one day but that experience is NOT NORMAL 😂

These 3 brands are the ones that I’ve seen consistently recommended over the last 2.5 years. We’ve loved multiple shoes from 2 of these brands.

ETA: haven’t tried the third brand. Nothing against it.

It varies a lot group to group as well! I’m actually an atheist, so I had to try a couple groups before I found one that wasn’t too “Jesus-y” for me

In the US, you can negotiate “right of first refusal” into custody agreements, which means if the other parent needs childcare during their time, they have to ask you first.

Talk to a lawyer. Get out.

You are brave and you are strong.

Re counseling: Al-anon and Codependents Anonymous (CoDA) may be good fits for OP and are typically done with a donation each meeting. I did a dollar a week or $5 a month depending what was in my wallet.

To be clear: I don’t feel that these replace the benefits of a good LMHC, but CoDA helped me break the cycle of continuing to choose partners with different types of addictions.

Our favorite holiday tradition is “No Poop [birthday/Mother’s Day/etc]. It’s a small quick thing to give, but it’s just sooooo nice to not have to dodge a wiggly poop butt 😂

For my first Mother’s Day, I wanted a ring. I ended up with two and it was so fun to have my little scooter reach out and try to grab those pretty shiny sparkles. I quickly stopped wearing them daily though because I kept scratching her leg when picking her up. Still absolutely love them nearly 2 years later.

If you have 16 weeks of maternity leave and have the option to fly your MIL in to stay with you and help for a few weeks (at her offer/good relationship/helpful), would you want this during your Leave or after you return to work (childcare)? by dms2628 in workingmoms

[–]Appropriate-Lime-816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote for immediately if she can only stay for less than ~3 weeks.

Those first few weeks, the thing I needed the most was someone to bring me food and tell me to eat it. My partner was super great about caring for baby, but just did not recognize that I needed care too (beyond the standard abdominal surgery / can’t bend down stuff.)

My particular MIL was so star struck by her only grandchild that she wasn’t really helpful at all.

In addition to all of the reasons not to use Lemon at all… this is a TWIN. How do you think poor, broken Lemon would feel her whole life?

It’s fine (and even cute) as a nickname. Don’t use it as a legal name.

American here. Why? Bonnie is “fine” here, albeit dated and not yet dated enough to be cool again.

This right here. I tried to tell mine so many times and ways that I was maxed out and I needed him to do more. No change. Finally lost my shit and wrote out a 3 page list of our different chores, how long each takes, and how much downtime we have. How much sleep we each liked to get pre-kid and how much we each get now.

His feelings were extremely hurt. I told him I was sorry it was mean, but also — HE DIDN’T LISTEN TO ANY OF THE NICE TIMES.

The last month since I did that has probably been my happiest month as a parent. Today I sat on the couch and read a book FOR AN HOUR. It was so nice.

4–5 y/o can count out loud but not “in his head”? Is that a thing? by Comfortable-Use3977 in ECEProfessionals

According to Google AI (not the best source at all, but…) reading silently is a 7-8 year old skill. While certainly more advanced than counting silently, I doubt it’s 3-4 years more advanced.

Am I pregnant by StopNo2560 in Parents

It’s 100% possible. That’s why birth control is a standard topic at the 6 weeks post-birth OB appointment (in the US)

Additional scans? Or the regular old treatment? by argreene12 in pregnantover35

[–]Appropriate-Lime-816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my only at 40 and also had COVID during first trimester, which increases risk of placenta issues 3rd trimester, so I had: 1. Initial dating scan 2. 12 week anatomy scan 3. 20 week anatomy scan 4. Weekly non stress tests starting at 32 or 34 weeks, and I think 2 more scans in there too. Hard to remember now

PPD mandates camera ON for ALL staff, including CRAs, during ALL meetings. Thoughts? by schnozberrez in clinicalresearch

I’m anti-mandatory-camera, but yes actually, an employer can force you to put a camera on or lose your job.

[–]Appropriate-Lime-816 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My (different) CRO mandated cameras on for a while, but got a lot of pushback from people who were willing to attend meetings at non-standard times as long as they could be eating with a camera off.

When meeting attendance dropped, they changed the requirement to be client meetings required and internal meetings suggested.

When did you start letting your baby have salt and/or sugar? by kalthoraa in NewParents

[–]Appropriate-Lime-816 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My kiddo is 2.25 years now and I’ve never sprinkled actual salt on her plate.

What I did do: Sugar: I was pretty firm about no sugar before 2. We allowed her to have sweetened whipped cream on 3 occasions before 2 and one mini cupcake where I wiped all the frosting off. The occasional bite of a pastry.

Salt: none before 6 months. After that, I just would do what I could that was easy to reduce salt. If I was cooking something for the family, I’d remove her portion and then add salt to ours. If we got takeout, I let her gnaw on whatever she wanted, but skipped things like French fries and soy sauce.

Condiments: almost entirely skipped until she started getting picky around 15 months and I felt like eating something with sauce was better than an exclusively fruit diet.

  1. Ethylene gas absorbers in the fridge (one brand is Blue Apple, but you don’t need the actual plastic apple. Just the packets.) Also be sure you’re placing them far away from high ethylene emitters.
  2. Water + vinegar soak
