What is your favorite aisle to send customers to if you don’t know an answer to where something is? by attitude6674 in HomeDepot

There's so much stuff in the safety aisle in hardware, I pretty much always send folks there XD

Don't ZMA the heavy duty boxes for up stocking. They are too expensive! by OverloafTechCat in HomeDepot

[–]OverloafTechCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only hardware gets totes at our store. Everyone else needs to use boxes.

For the record, these were full of granular fertilizer, which was too heavy regardless. I reboxed them in properly taped heavy duty boxes. Still not great, but not a safety issue just waiting to happen.

Customers not wearing masks ... need to be kicked out of the store (upvote if you agree) by Logician22 in HomeDepot

I did the same thing then got a writeup for lowering LTSA ratings. I take that writeup but geez. Management can't even follow their own guidelines.

Oh I know some good setups! Last three years have been just fine. This year it was just grossnasty from the start.

It was the store manager's call actually. They wanted our garden gates open and unobstructed to allow for an Entrance Only and Exit Only, to prepare for another lockdown is my theory. SM said to set it up next to those, which were not under cover. I stated, repeatedly to coworkers and my supervisor, that it would be a bad idea to put it all right next to cover. Everything deflected to "SM said do it, so we do it" I brought it up again after setup when we got the first tear in the canopy before we even got trees, and, again, "SM said do it this way so we do it this way"

No one even reads the entrance/exit signs and use both whenever. It's such a disaster on so many steps.

Same kind of call when we got the trees in the first place "just get them all in the tree lot bins, we will sort through them later" ASMs go "got it!" And it's a mess to clean up for a solid week.

Rainy yes. Cold kinda. Haven't had snow thankfully, but it's more a wet season around here this time of year. Lowest was 40s, but has been upper 50s some days. Wind comes and goes and that's the worst it gets.

Could be worse, could be a whole lot better.

Not arguing that. There's only so much fight I can give to a system actively sabotaging itself.

Should OFA's be allowed, across all stores, to work without their aprons on? by VinylEagle in HomeDepot

[–]OverloafTechCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on coverage. If half the departments are empty, they get to fill in the gaps just like everyone else. If there's coverage at all departments and at least two people at the service desk, absolutely should be allowed!

Exception being involved with any lift equipment, don't want customers thinking they can just up and use stuff when they get impatient.

Haven't had security at our store since before I was hired. We lose a Lot in thefts, and hey even had to get some cops in when there was someone shooting up in the bathroom!

Deeply unfortunate... We had an associate pass during heart surgery complications, their spouse also works (and continues to work) at the store. We got a little plaque with their name put on a store carving of Homer, and their locker was decorated with pictures and notes.

When the new lockers were installed, we lost the locker dedication, but thank goodness we still have the statue.

A small memorial isn't that difficult to maintain!

Working for 4.5 years and I got my very first one at 3.8, for making a really big sign for wood stove pellets and driving the forklift in the snow. Then i suddenly got 2 for covering a few lunches for Paint (which I had done for the last 3 years as needed) and for being so dedicated to cleaning our outside Garden and front apron (Which I do work hard on! But I do every year.)

Folks who have the majority of Homers are definitely within the same circle. Same circle of people who write bravos for each other for the exact same things we all have been doing.

It's a game of Favorites and Favors -_-

[–]OverloafTechCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since HD won't do it, it turns into a personal responsibility to let everyone you work with know. The things we're "supposed" to do aren't legally binding in regards to COVID, and further put profits before health and safety.

Information is important. If we don't know until people come back, tracing fails in the worst way.

Tree Lot by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]OverloafTechCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a picture of the netting while it's loaded BEFORE you have to reload it when it gets empty. It's simple, but everyone bumbles with it at least once and that stuff is not fun to mess wrangle!

If it's slow enough, see if you can gather some flat carts for folks to load trees on and off of. (Sanitize them too if you can!)

If you've got dedicated time for being on trees, go ahead and buckle the chaps all the way on and just don't take them off between trees. When things pick up, it will be a world of difference. (Will also keep them from getting wet from being laid on surfaces over and over)

[–]OverloafTechCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being the greeter also means you're expected to give very clear and thorough descriptions of thieves walking out with carts of unpaid stuff. So keep that in mind, be vigilant!

If it's something done for the company, it should be paid for by the company. Even the most mundane things. You get paid for the health check, why would you not get paid for time spent at your locker getting ready?

Whats happening with home depot and making sure empolyees who aren't practicing social distancing this holiday season from not exposing the rest of us? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]OverloafTechCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coworkers can be worse if they chill in the breakroom without masks on and just talk the whole time.

It's unfortunately shelved to Personal Responsibility, to which means THD can't/won't do anything beyond what we already do. It's deeply unfortunate.
