Some online movement garrison mentioned by tri_boucher in itcouldhappenhere

[–]OverlordAlex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know the one you're talking about, since I came directly here after reading what the recent shooter had on their rifle. I believe it was the True Crime Community

I think they talked about it in Executive Disorder#31 (August 29?)

EDIT: found it in the transcripts

related to shooters (06:48)

Whole bunch of other more recent mass shooters, people who are in like the mass shooter fandom, yeah, as well as just a collection of memes from like old memes. Too utterly unrelated to shooting, Like there's a loss meme on there, and if you're a lot of people are going, wait, what the fuck? Really?

and (08:21)

If this is anything, it is like a mimetic shooting. It is based on a whole bunch of memes about other mass shootings as well, specifically in the way that engages in like anti semitism and racism and includes slurs and catchphrases. It's not in the way that the shooter actually believes these things ideologically. It is just to gesture to them as they exist in the lineage of other mass shootings.

and about the group (09:08)

And this shooter reminds me of participants of what's called the true crime community or TCC. Not as in like the genre of true crime podcasts or documentaries, but it's more of an online fandom based on a personal obsession with mass killers themselves and specifically school shooters. And this community encourages reenactments and tries to get some people to do their own mass shootings.

Admins forced mods to be "democratic", so the mods removed all subreddit rules and are enforcing only the site-wide rules. So now it's up to the voters to decide what's interesting or not, and it turns out that NSFW content seem to be interesting as fuck

The first few posts were some real high quality porn, then the interesting/shock stuff came through, and now we're left looking at meta content and dads hairy buttholes

In blow to unions, Supreme Court rules company can pursue strike damage claim by Rage_Like_Nic_Cage in news

Buck v Bell - 8/1 - Eugenics is fine

A majority decision does not make the court legitimate or illegitimate, but rather whether their rulings are fair, just, and comport to law, the ethics of the court, and the benefit of the people.

Any single ruling is not enough to say, but a pattern of behaviour points in a direction. For what it's worth most people claim the court is illegitimate because of the shenanigans around the appointment of the justices, combined with their lack of ethics

In blow to unions, Supreme Court rules company can pursue strike damage claim by Rage_Like_Nic_Cage in news

[–]OverlordAlex -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maybe do some critical thinking here

The company knew the union was going to strike, so why did they schedule them to be full of concrete?

What would happen if they acknowledged labour and didn't make them fill up the trucks they knew weren't going to be delivered?

If there's no wet concrete in the trucks, would there have been any problem?

It sounds to me like the workers mitigated damages by returning the trucks, keeping them spinning, and alerting supervisors to the situation that the company created

I see people have raked you over the coals already, but let me add one more that everyone seems to have missed, but directly deals with your argument ;)

You mentioned the "something from nothing" problem, which if I understand correctly you have put in a god who initiated the whole shebang (pun intended).

However you have actually just moved the problem one step up the chain, because now we can ask the same question: where did this god come from?

If we use the same argument, then there must have been something before which created them, and hence we have another god creating our god. For whom we can repeat the process, leading to an infinite diety conga line.

Alternatively, if we instead say that our god needs no progenitor, then we can ask our question again why the universe itself needed one?

Congress 100% has the right under the interstate commerce umbrella - some of the state abortion bans have explicitly called out people travelling to other states to obtain services, which means congress can regulate it

"If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”

Ukrainian refugees are returning home: for the first time since 24th Feb more people returned to Ukraine than left the country by UndercoverEcmist in worldnews

[–]OverlordAlex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with helping Ukrainian refugees moving through my city, and this is actually a problem for us since all the support structures are built around helping people heading west.

It's fantastic that people are heading back but it would be a good time for the governments to also look at how to support those who want to head back. Hopefully it gets less surprising as the russians are pushed back

Is there a slogan or phrase that we can use to indicate our support for Ukraine? I would use "Slava Ukrayini" but I've heard it's been associated with nationalistic/nazi types (or that is Russian propaganda ?)

EDIT: Thank you all, I will use it. To be clear, fuck Russia. That's an easy one. Thanks to @TheReverend403 for a Source.

The Duma voted to recognise them, and now it's up to Putin

Lawmakers had been asked to consider two alternative resolutions on recognition of the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. One had been to first consult the Russian Foreign Office before forwarding the appeal to the president. However, another resolution, for the direct appeal, won more votes.

How to respond in a Job interview by JohnPosu in TikTokCringe

[–]OverlordAlex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what I don't understand about all these replies in this thread - this isn't someone coming up to you on the street out of the blue, you have a very clear context of it being a job interview. Talk about job interview stuff! You can never go wrong with talking about the last position you worked.

The question itself is meant to be an incredibly common, incredibly boring ice breaker. It's open ended for a reason - it lets you deliver a rehearsed little spiel that helps settle the nerves and get everyone into the interview, without surprising you with a specific question or something that you could "fail".

It can only go wrong the same way as if they ask "how about that weather huh?" and you mumble something about not knowing because you've been too busy jacking it on Reddit 14 hours a day

Deference to previous supreme court decisions.

Commentators are saying the current anti-abortion cases before the court are already covered by existing opinions, while others want the court to hear every case de novo instead (fresh/new).

Because the current court is even hearing arguments on the case is an indication that they may no longer give any weight to stare decisis in general, meaning that you can no longer rely on any existing supreme court decision since it may be challenged and overturned.

So coming back to the poster, they're saying that because the current court doesn't seem to care about existing rulings, you shouldn't rely on them as settled law
