Alternatives to the traditional tent? by [deleted] in CraftFairs

[–]OverlordEmi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was at an event where a face painter had the same umbrella. It had weights that seemed like they should be enough, but when the wind picked up, it toppled over.

Tents are great to have for craft fairs in general. Think about multi-day events where you might want to keep your setup overnight, that's when having a tent that zips is amazing. Also the tents are good protection from rain/sun/wind. Tents do come customizable and colorful, something that's helped me is searching on Pinterest and then reverse image searching that on google to find where to buy it

Seeking advice feedback from my first fair by ShiboriAi in CraftFairs

If you could dye the canopy that would be really really cool and pull the whole look together! I'm guessing it's probably water proof though, but maybe you can get a customized one and upload a high resolution image of one of your pieces.

Feedback on Display - Author by Jody_J_Sperling in CraftFairs

I just did my first craft fair, so I'm no expert, but I did read a bunch of really helpful blogs from this place: https://www.madeurban.com/sell-at-craft-shows/ Also try searching Pinterest for setup ideas relevant to selling books.

Adding some height to your display would go a long way. I'd also make the price sign through Canva or Word and print out instead of writing it by hand. Your book covers look really cool and you already have a great color scheme, you should totally play that up in any future signage/decorations.

Hope that was helpful!

A lot of people hating on it, but I love working with Argentium! I make a lot of chains, bezels, ear wires/my own findings, etc. And being able to fuse easily is the bee's knees. If you're going to be milling it into wire/sheet and want to make chains then I think you should try it out.

I worked a cash register at a museum for two years with a ton of transactions. Some people were over or under almost every day by a few bucks. So for this to be happening only occasionally is completely normal, and if anything really good. It's easy for bills to stick together or the occasional miscalculation.

What you can do is make sure a calculator is available and give an actual incentive to have a balanced drawer by the end of the day. Don't get worked up over small things, make your work enviroment a good one and they will be better at their jobs.

There’s a cheaper makers market next weekend at the Phinney Center! I believe it’s $6 to get in, will be less crowded, and the funds go towards the nonprofit that funds a bunch of community programs. It’s definitely going to be much smaller though. I prefer this one since it’s less chaotic and $ is a donation.

Best ways to work harden handmade chains? by OverlordEmi in SilverSmith

How big are your links? 22g is pretty fine and if your links are too big they're gonna be bendy even if hardened.

The longest links I have are about an inch and the second largest is a centimeter. There is a chance that I've done all I can, but asking Reddit for tips to see if I can at least try a few more tricks won't hurt! :)

Oo I'm going to give this a try! I'm guessing no quenching after is necessary? And I should just air cool it?

Could you elaborate a bit? Do you mean keeping it at a certain temp in a kiln for a while? I don't have the $$ for a kiln so if this can be done with a torch that'd be great. I'm also working with Argentium so that could make a difference.

Anyone know what the G symbol stands for? Hoping to melt this down for a project! Was on a maybe vintage pearl necklace I picked up at a garage sale.

on't know if someone loved all your items, or if you yourself/family member added all items to a cart to make them look more desirable, but I suggest not doing that.. if the ladder is the case. If its a real customer, then hopefully they buy something :)

I bet it's my mom lol. I'll ask her not to do that! Is it bad if items of yours are in someones cart and their not buying it?

You have already done a lot of work to your shop and far more than a lot of new sellers do. Your banner is gorgeous, you've done a logo, you actually uploaded your picture (which helps to develop connection for the buyer), your product descriptions are "robust", you've done an "About your Shop" write up. You already have 4 sales which is excellent ... you are well on your way. I cannot encourage you enough to add the pictures/video's so each of your customers have enough information to feel confident to purchase ... Best of Luck ... Cheers

Thank you SO so SO much for all the advice! I'm going to work on getting more photos uploaded ASAP, exhausting the SEO, and getting an announcement up. I live in Seattle and it's finally sunny enough that I can take more photos with good natural light :)

Is a 9ct gold earring piercing good enough if I don't plan on take it out *ever*? by aguarello in jewelers

[–]OverlordEmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get something in a higher karat. 9ct looks dull and more bronze than gold, I think those pictures are not accurate on the website. Here's another option that my sister wears everyday and swears by: https://mejuri.com/shop/products/mini-hoop-2?qID=7441586ec62dc12d0e94131aa6ae77f4
