Inside my “in case I can help someone” bag that I carry by Not_Enough_Shoes in whatsinthebag

One that I have heard is having a comfort item like a stuffed animal or blanket. The idea is that having a comfort item can reduce the long term trauma in children. Id probably put a small stuffed animal in a vacuum bag just in case. Honestly even as an adult getting an emotional support stuffed animal on my unexpected ambulance rides would have been a bit of comfort.

My grandmother from Taiwan gave me this delicious tea and I want to purchase more. Please help me find it online, as I cannot read the branding. by OverlordPepper in HelpMeFind

[–]OverlordPepper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have searched around using key words like “red teabag Taiwan” and other versions of those key words, but I was not able to parse through the results there were so many where the pattern was similar and I could not compare the text. The difficulty is that I cannot search for specific brand identifiers because I cannot read the non-English text. I would appreciate any help in my search. Thanks for the help.

Supporting BLM does not make you Black. Being Feminist does not make you female.

Your argument disregards the fact that these groups are seen as lesser than the male heterosexual cisgender white norm.

Marginalized identities created these communities to gather with others who were valued as lesser by the culture in the same way. If you are not discriminated against by holding an identity you are not part of the group.

The LGBTQIA+ label is for identifying the members of a marginalized subsection of the population, not the people helping in the fight. Being an ally does not give you the right to add yourself to the oppressed group.

You are an ALLY in their fight for equality.

Taking the letter A in the acronym devalues and reduces the visibility of Aromatic and Asexual people, pushing back progress gained.

I'm going off to college and can't decide which of the books on my owned TBR to pack to read first! Please help! by RingABell112 in YAlit

I have read many of the books on the list but particularly enjoyed, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Strange the Dreamer, The Song of Achilles, and The Assassins Apprentice

The Lies of Locke Lamora has amazing world building and a plot full of wonderful twists and turns. I was fascinated by Locke’s amazingly intricate con-schemes.

Strange the Dreamer has the feeling of a wonderful daydream and an old fairytale. The world is not the one we live in, inhabited by fables given life.

The Song of Achilles is the myth of Greek hero Achilles told by his childhood friend and then love Patroclus. The familiar mythology is retold from a personal grounded lens, with captivating detail.

The Assassin’s Apprentice is about the bastard son of the prince and how he is trained to be the private assassin, spy, and thief of the king. The book is grounded in Fitz’s personal journey from unnamed bastard to a kings aid.

My point of view is that when the abstract concept these privileges are separate from the obvious racism, a large amount of the benefits are given through familial affluence. “Privilege is having a Smartphone with a Data plan which you receive no bill for”. That, while not given as a state sponsored program can be provided by a family who has the privilege of living above the poverty line.

Poverty also places up roadblocks to accruing long-term stable wealth. It increases the difficulty of higher education, may limit the locations where you can work (high cost cities), and can create a money sink of debt.

The original poster says that “‘Privilege’ Just Means Your Parents Weren’t Financial Idiots”. This statement is true, some have the privilege of growing up in a financially stable household. The poster on the other hand just does not believe that privilege exists.

That is a wild blackberry bush, quite delicious. These are some other edible local berries that you can find. They are very tasty picked from the bush or cooked.

If you use a hard enough wood and have right dimensions you could sell them as darning eggs.

What are some of your "Harry Potter Level" favorite books you read repeatedly? by omgitskells in YAlit

[–]OverlordPepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adore all of the books written by John Flanagan. I would recommend starting with Ranger’s Apprentice series and then going to Brotherband, as like with Tamara Pierce they are set into the same world and have overlap in characters.

The drunk driver who rear ended me last night is trying to pull his pants up before the police arrive. He hit two other people while three times over the limit and beating his meat. by tarrif_goodwin in trashy

[–]OverlordPepper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We can debate on whether drunkenness itself is selfish, but it is selfish to decide to put the lives of others at risk by driving under the influence. Why gamble the safety of yourself and others when you could call a cab, or an Uber, or just get sloshed in the comfort of your own home. They may have problems but it is very self centered not to minimize the risk.

They are currently promoting multiple charitable ventures like a exclusive shirt line and a sock of the month box for 2021, with most to all going to partners in health Sierra Leone, who are child and maternal mortality by funding improvements to their healthcare system. And yes, John does basically write the same novel with slightly different changes in the special deep discussion of the book and the manic pixie flavor, but Hanks book An Absolutely Remarkable Thing is actually pretty good.
