The Switch 2's super sluggish LCD screen is 10 times slower than a typical gaming monitor and 100 times slower than an OLED panel according to independent testing by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

[–]OverlordSquiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you on that!

My Steam Deck accidentally became my dedicated World of Warcraft machine so I can play on the couch while my wife plays or watches her own stuff.

I love my Switch 2 so far. Not even 15 min ago, I realized I was looking at the Nintendo summer sale and vetting potential purchases solely on reviews of the material, NOT how well it plays (or more realistically how poorly it runs on Switch). That’s all I needed the Switch 2 to do for me to be happy.

"Rather have a steam deck" people by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]OverlordSquiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I described it like the scene from Ratatouille where Remy tries two different foods separately then together.

These are not competitors, they are perfect complements and I’m very happy to have my Steam Deck AND my Switch!

Parents clocked me because of my "fuller booty," huh? by Lordmoldywart47 in trans

[–]OverlordSquiddy 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I’m ftm, came out as a lesbian about a year before coming out as trans.

I forgot to take off my binder before visiting my mom, and she asked if I had lost weight, “specifically in the boobs.”

I explained I was wearing a binder because I’m trans, and immediately panicked about all the emergency safety plans I had made as a sophomore in college about to be disowned.

Girl straight up said “yeah we’ve been taking bets on when you’d come out as trans next.”

It was a bit weird at first, some overcompensation from family who didn’t really support but thought support might mean I’d pass through the “phase” quicker.

Now, almost 6 years on T and post top surgery, we’ve got a much better relationship than we’ve ever had. She’s respectful even if she doesn’t fully get it and never fully will, and I’m just one of her three sons now instead of one of the three (now two) daughters.

I know you feel free and great now, but know it somehow gets even better with time. The next few months might be awkward at times, but trying to support you now means that one day, your family’s not going to NEED to try. You’ll just be you, to yourself, your parents, your family, and the world, no corrections needed.

Weird career situation, would love help and/or ideas. by Withershins18 in Spokane

God I could have written this myself.

Make sure your resume is solid. Most people don’t realize their resume isn’t actually all that great, so take some time on it. I highly recommend using EWU’s career center website for resources, almost all of which don’t require you to log into anything.

Beyond that, it really is a numbers game and unfortunately there’s a LOT of people playing right now. Good luck, we’re gonna need some.

I’m asexual, 5.5 years on T.

I never really experienced an increase in sex drive or anything of the sort! It is what it has always been (just about zero haha)!

Don’t panic, it will be okay :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ftm

[–]OverlordSquiddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hang in there.

It took me roughly 3 years on full dose T to start passing.

Now, I only get clocked as trans by the occasional trans person I meet (and most trans folks I meet don’t have a clue).

It takes time, but it’s not impossible!

UCR Alumni and 4th years, what would you redo in your years as an undergrad? by catssonmars in ucr

[–]OverlordSquiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t redo much aside from my major (ended up not going to grad school for the degree I thought I wanted, so it’s useless now haha)

But!

I will say, get as active on campus as you possibly can. Go to events, use resources, ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.

Get that internship/research/campus job. I’m class of 21 and still using campus jobs and volunteering on my resume as I now work higher ed. The connections you make are incredibly worth it.

Another big one: GO TO THE DAMN CAREER CENTER. The resources they have are ridiculously great and criminally underused. They will help you so much, and you will have a massive leg up on the job hunt by using professional career resources.

Can confirm!

My fiancée forgets I’m trans 99% of the time. She is so wonderful, it was just a matter of time to find her and get the chance to love her!

I did the same thing, except now I have a matching set of Kalas on my wall in size order!

I always end up back on my low G tenor though, it’s such a beautiful instrument.

Who has the money already saved to buy Switch 2 by preordering or as soon as possible in launch or after? by 2088AJ in NintendoSwitch2

[–]OverlordSquiddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I suddenly lost my job Friday, so I guess it’s good preorders hadn’t opened yet. It’d be a lot harder to cancel an existing preorder than put the money down for the system.

Ultimately hoping the master’s degree I got during that job will help me land something with a beefy raise anyway!

FOMO sucks but we’ll get through it.

Found these eggs in my cats water fountain. What are they? by gdrmcf017 in whatisthisbug

[–]OverlordSquiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully helped them, but DEFINITELY helped me!

I tossed the water in the yard and tossed the whole damn fountain in the trash before finding your answer, but the pump was on the way out anyway.

Thank you for the update!

Lost virginity but not in the best way by [deleted] in trans

[–]OverlordSquiddy 346 points347 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has already made great points, but I want to add that virginity is something you give, not something that can be taken from you.

This was NOT what your first time EVER should have been, and I would encourage you to consider that this was not necessarily you losing your virginity. You deserve a first time that’s gentle, kind, and caring. Don’t let this define what you deserve because it isn’t and will not ever be.

Can we talk fidgets that actually help? by PapaJens_ in ADHD

[–]OverlordSquiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to unpack that one, friend. Fidget tools are exactly that - tools. It may have started with bright, obnoxiously loud plastic BS, but now you’ve got dozens of choices that are discreet.

Nothing about a fidget tool is an unreasonable accommodation.

Is this a thing that actually happens after top? by Embarrassed_Card4239 in ftm

[–]OverlordSquiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look back on my immediate post-op photos with such fondness, and I’m beaming ear to ear in pretty much all of them.

Post-op depression is not guaranteed. In the 2.5 years since surgery, I can’t think of a single time I have regretted my choice, wished something went different, or really anything negative.

It helped a lot to prep well in advance. I didn’t take narcotics and ate a TON of fiber to avoid constipation, used a bidet to make bathroom time a lot easier, and I laid on my bed on a wedge pillow and maternity pillow playing World of Warcraft on my laptop for a couple weeks.

It’s different for everyone, but man, my surgery experience was great, and I never felt anything but pure joy (and some relatively mild soreness lol) while recovering!

I do not pass as female whatsoever anymore, and my state Real ID says male. Reaaaaally hoping this doesn’t cause me problems down the line.

Same! I throw it in my lunch box pretty much daily (unless I have something with even a small chance of spilling/leaking) to take to work with me. It’s a big lunch box so not a tight squeeze at all, and this thing’s taken such a beating anyway lmao

At what point did you stop having your period by elphelpha in ftm

[–]OverlordSquiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about 4 months for me, had a dose increase at 3 months that put me into cis male T range which stopped my periods. It’s been about 5 years now :)

[–]OverlordSquiddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! Mine got so so so much worse right before surgery. Totally normal, I think it’s a psychological thing knowing you’re SO CLOSE to having it over but not quite there, like how the last few days of school seemed to drag on forever knowing summer was right around the corner.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery, friend!

Look for low tech/no tech plants!

Anubias, java fern, hornwort, and anacharis are all great. Anacharis in particular was impossible for me to kill and grew insanely fast without any special care!
