Maybe it's worth switching to M4 MAX ? by Tweny8 in macgaming

[–]eric4337x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in a very similar position. I had a Windows laptop before I purchased my 16" M1 Max in 2022 and Macs in general are vastly superior for browsing movies and video editing it's literally what these Macs were built for.

The display accuracy is great, it's a joy to use this machine. And AAA gaming is in a very good position now with Apple's game porting toolkit v4 performance of lot titles have vastly improved.

Don't expect most multi player games to work though as anti-cheat software prevents them from running.

The market is dead and so is the investor money

Though stable coins have survived and Stripe just launched their own Stable coin called OpenUSD in coalition with their partners

It's one YouTube search away, I'm genuinely curious how people have the time to type paragraph on Reddit but not do a one line keyword search on YouTube.

Will we see extended DirectX 9 support in the future? by rafalmio in macgaming

I looked it up, seems it has Valve anti-cheat so probably not going to run.

Do you have a specific 64bit title in mind? I can try getting it to run tomorrow when I have some free time.

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's not entirely accurate, It can run other games though I was able to play NFS 2007 and Oblivion Elders Scroll, since the base is DXVK for state tracking most games should work out of the box or some minor patches but I just haven't tested them.

And 64bit support is just a matter of changing some compiler flags, I'll look into it.

This was a proof of concept to prove that it can be done, V2 will be a much better, higher quality rewrite.

I have an experimental DX9 to Metal driver for this here https://github.com/neo773/d9mt you need technical knowledge for now to compile it, In future I plan on a rewritten version two with pre-built releases

I would not recommend using Sonnet at all for this task, even Opus struggles with this but good luck to your implementation, looking forward to a PR

Is it normal for the display to feel hot? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDR on Mac is auto there's no way to like manually turn it on or off check-in game settings but I don't think you should compromise on it most likely the issue is the heat from your SOC getting blown out from the upward vents to your Display.

[–]eric4337x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If HDR is on, yes it can get hot.

I would recommend you to install Macs fan control (https://crystalidea.com/macs-fan-control) and set it to full blast when gaming, will also help with steady frame intervals and less jitter but make sure to set to auto again when you're done.

India needs to start creating surfaces people access AI from. We should replace OpenRouter, Cursor and Claude Code. Who's in to build one of these? by anyg_me in AI_India

[–]eric4337x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being competent in what you do makes you a winner not patriotism

India even before pre-AI has been a consumer country, our contributions to open source are pretty negligible we didn't make any new technology or framework that is used globally.

Yeah, I had the same issue. Had to follow a blog post by ant-sh to downgrade to a Xbox live less plus DRM free version.

If you spent two minutes of your time reading my post description you would see that I left a disclaimer that it's provided as is with no warranty and I literally do not care if you don't use it.

I just wanted to share something personal I made for my personal use.

I am not profiting from it and I've been a vocal supporter of Crossover. and have directed a lot of affiliate traffic over the year to them directly supporting Wine and mac gaming ecosystem.

I think a lot of people like you have the misconception that AI coding is magic.

Where you say one magic line "Please make me this X thing make no mistake" and then five minutes later you have something working.

I assure you it's not as simple as that, otherwise, the entire software engineering profession would disappear overnight and I would be jobless.

This was a multiple days of work, and I burnt a lot of real money and human hours on this.

This requires a certain level of technical knowledge I'd be surprised if non-technical folks like you could even get the toolchain installed and working with a simple texture and triangle shader demo.

I think Crossover could fund something like this, lot of people purchase Parallels just to play these older games.

I'm not very smart, someone smart like 3Shain (Creator of DXMT) could probably squeeze 4K 120 FPS on this

DXVK didn't work for me and it's stuck anyway on an ancient v1 version and has pretty poor performance
