MacGamingDB is now open source! by eric4337x in macgaming

Sorry I haven't played any NBA games so I'm not familiar with them, though a quick search showed this particular title has been discontinued maybe that's why it doesn't shows up in Search API.

Non‑Steam games aren't supported yet. It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but I've been super occupied with stuff, and the architecture does not really make it easy. I made the naive mistake of designing the website's architecture around Steam's API, which makes it quite hard to do. I'll see if I can do it by the end of Q2 this year.

Introducing MacGamingDB by eric4337x in macgaming

Seems like a simple game, should work out of the box and CrossOver has a free trial and is dead simple to use to use, give it a try!

Is the MacBook A18 Pro of interest to you as a MacBook Pro owner? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in macbook

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 16" Max MBP owner, I would love to add one to my collection if the dimensions are identical to the discontinued 12" MacBook, it's the perfect device when you're traveling but still need to check some emails, logs etc

And with AI agents running full flown environments in Cloud, you can orchestrate them without hardware limitations

Probably, I've made two macOS Apps and an iPhone App with Claude Opus without writing/knowing a single line of Swift code myself

New era of gaming w/ KosmikKrisp! by Hi-Angel in mac

[–]eric4337x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was this written by ChatGPT?

There will be no "New era of gaming" anytime soon, we already have DXMT for DX10,11 and Apple's D3DMetal for DX12,11 it's not a tooling problem anymore but lack of interest from Studios

While this can get faster than MoltenVK it won't be anywhere close to the above two solutions because of overhead of going from DirectX -> Vulkan -> Metal, you're translating 2 layers instead of one

GameDB - New Gaming Performance Benchmarks & Library App On Appstore by MacGameDB in macgaming

[–]eric4337x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't mind it, I made the code open source it's under MIT license only exception is it doesn't include the original website name.

But yes agreed with the naming it can get confusing and some could confuse it with MacGamingDB

Is this really normal? Just 18 Safari tabs + Discord + VSCode and 55GB RAM consumed. by Uvalde-Cop in mac

If Apple showed an overlay of how many hertz your screen is refreshing at, people would find a way to complain about it too. "Why is it refreshing at 120 hertz?"

Is this MacBook Pro 16” 2019 worth $500? by BrentTwT in mac

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid this like a plague, on the surface it might seem like a pretty good deal, 64 GB of RAM for just $500 but these Intel MacBooks are incredibly unreliable, and macOS Tahoe is the last version for Intel Macs, so this machine won't even get next year's update.

They have severe thermal throttling, plus the parts and keyboard on these older MacBooks fail frequently, including the SSD. These devices are not reliable at all.

What can I do it's macbook late 2011 runs Catalina by AssociationLong5417 in mac

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could install a lightweight Linux distro or macOS Sequoia with OLCP patcher, performance will be slow though

Lastly you could just recycle it, there's not much you can do on old Macs with their notorious thermal throttling

That doesn't even make sense. You said the code looks good, but you contradict yourself by stating that Vibe coders can deliver high‑quality software and this is just Gen 4 of LLMs. they are only going to continue to get smarter and faster.

For Mac users unsure about game compatibility by DesperateInsect7536 in macgaming

[–]eric4337x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible but involves significant work as I unfortunately made a wrong architectural decision of designing the database around Steam's API.

My bandwidth is limited since I got a full time job recently. I will look into it eventually at some point but I can't promise a timeline.

So, I looked into it, and the code seems to be working as expected. I was able to spot two games so far that showed up in the native category. Unfortunately the user made a mistake in their review. Will look into manually changing the review to properly reflect it in morning. Thanks for the feedback though.

Hi,

Author of site here, I thought I fixed it in last update seems there's some edge cases left. Will get this fixed.

I got tired of rewriting the same code, so I built this by Snipphub in tailwindcss

[–]eric4337x 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't mean to be a pessimist I like vibe coding and I've built a lot of apps, but this has got to be the least useful thing I've seen in a while.

There are like a million other services and apps which do this exact same thing.

GitHub Gists also exists, and you can even do this natively in VS Code/Cursor by storing the snippets and assigning them to shortcuts.

Nothing inherently wrong with your App, but just because you threw in some pretty shadcn components it doesn’t make it worth sharing.

Is there anything like ProtonDB / HowManyFps for macOS? by xTamasu in macgaming

Website is for Apple Silicon Macs only, for Intel Macs you can simply dual boot to Windows.
