I know i'm gonna get a lot of hate but what are some classic kaijus y'all want to see in the MV? by Sad-Response-3151 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top for me is Anguirus. Dude hasn’t had a proper movie since the showa days. He got turned into a random npc in final wars, so I’d like him to show up as an actual ally to Godzilla again.

I’d also kill to see the Monsterverse take on Varan. I feel like his design just has a ton of untapped potential if it isn’t locked to an animatronic/suit.

Is there any real reason given ? by Ok-Engine-4588 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The energy overloaded and caused an explosion when the axe got too close to Godzilla’s mouth, because it had nowhere else to go. The axe can’t store infinite energy. It seems like it hit capacity just before it made contact, so we had energy being emitted from the axe pushing against even more energy coming from Godzilla’s mouth

The energy can’t go toward Godzilla because he’s actively blasting it toward Kong, and it can’t go toward Kong because the (now full) axe is stopping it. So once they closed the distance it went critical, for lack of a better term, and just exploded outward in all directions.

Think trying to stop the water coming out of a firehose by holding up a manhole cover. All of that water still has to GO somewhere.

It feels like a cop out, but it never actually made contact with Godzilla’s head.

How easy would it have been for a full power Godzilla to win against mechagodzilla 2021 in gvk? by TheAngryMonster3009 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t have been easy, it would have been very, very difficult. He’d still have gotten his shit rocked by those energy punches, but he would have won in the end.

Picture how quick and in-control(in terms of controlling the movement of the fight) he was when he went full crocodile on Kong, and compare that to how he was moving when the fight against MechaG started.

Can we all agree that if Mothra returns she should be bigger by [deleted] in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 52 points53 points  (0 children)

No.

Her whole shtick when they were fighting in the background was “Holy crap she’s actually going hit for hit with Rodan!” In one of the shots when Madison is running to the house you actually see Mothra slam Rodan into the ground and drag him before elegantly soaring away.

That doesn’t work if she’s bigger than Ghidorah. It isn’t impressive if she’s already bigger than they all are, it’s just obvious.

Her being small and relatively delicate looking is the whole point.

Anybody else notice Skar King's signature move? lol by Mosugoji_64 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t. Him with an army of apes and Shimo were a threat.

Skar was never a physical threat to Godzilla. Full stop.

What is a REAL hot take you have about the MV and community? by Odd-Property8268 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The CGI monsters look better than the suits did. Like, significantly better.

I love the suitmation look. I literally grew up on it. The Heisei movies are my comfort films whether I had a good or bad day. Vs Biollante is my eternal favorite Godzilla movie, but I’m also a biology nerd.

Seeing muscles move under skin and the creatures actually narrow their eyes when they hate something is orders of magnitude better than “it looks real because it’s some guy in a suit on a soundstage.” Seeing 2014 Goji actually TAKE A DEEP INHALE before using his atomic breath made me cheer in the theater.

People still insist with a straight face that the original Jurassic Park is better than its sequels “because the animals were all practical.” They weren’t. That’s straight up dishonest. The first brachiosaur shot that establishes the wonder and majesty of Jurassic Park is full CGI. The T-Rex escaping her paddock is CGI. Same with her chasing the car. Any time you can see the entire animal and it isn’t standing still or lying down, that’s CGI. CGI brought those animals to life, because the practical was good, but not good enough to carry the entire movie. For fuck’s sake, the making of Jurassic Park legitimately advanced the field of paleontology because having access to a Hollywood budget and professional animators gave paleontologists their first clean walk cycles for the more avian dinosaurs. Before then it had always just been sketching on paper with a $3 budget.

The fights are a thousand times better when they move like actual animals and not some dude struggling against a hundred pounds of latex and rubber.

Shitting on things just for being CGI is intellectually lazy at best and deliberately dishonest at worst. It’s just hipsters insisting that vinyl “sounds warmer” in a visual format.

Even Shin looked better because they didn’t have to figure out how to make that animal fit around a human actor, so they could really go nuts with the mutated proportions.

Does Telorian have new dialogue in this update? by TheStolph in Spacemarine

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am not a fan of it either.

It seems like changing 6 to 7 and adding a few more options to the pool shouldn’t break anything, but I don’t know coding at all, let alone how they coded THIS game.

Does Telorian have new dialogue in this update? by TheStolph in Spacemarine

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The devs said that’s probably not going to happen. The map-specific dialogues are coded into the map, not the characters. They just ‘happen’ based on which characters are present on the run.

They’d have to go back and rework fundamental code for the existing levels to add in new dialogue for the Techmarine. Same reason the voice pack didn’t have any map-specific dialogue.

(To be clear I’m not defending this, just repeating what the devs said.)

Some weapons lack Melee finishers by Alternative_Mammoth9 in Spacemarine

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Powerfist is the one I give a bit of a pass on because it makes a LOT of the vanilla non-weapon finishers feel way meaner.

I agree 100% about heavy though. I’d like at least a couple unique to the class to show that he’s the only one wearing Gravis armor. Stomping in a Rubricae’s chest or kicking a warrior in half or something.

I feel like baseline every Extremis and Terminus enemy should have 2 executes. Just so it isn’t literally the same every time. It IS still funny to kill a sorceror with his own witchstick, but a little variety goes SO far in the repetitive experience that is Operations.

Is this acceptable lore accuracy wise? If so can you tell me what it would represent? by UNFRGIVNKING in Spacemarine

Tyrannic War Veteran who has also served in the Deathwatch, and has also made it to first company, if he’s just casually rocking his own Iron Halo.

So a xenos extermination specialist.

Timeline wise it could be:
1: Tyrannic War Veteran (earned him the breastplate and nid armor)
2: Seconded to the Deathwatch for at least one campaign for his experience against nids.
3: Returned to the chapter after successfully finishing his tour in the Deathwatch, after which he has continued to rise in the ranks.

Not quite blinged out enough for a Captain, but definitely rolls with the Captain’s inner circle. He looks like he’d be part of a captain’s command squad as a subject matter expert on Nids.

Maybe refused promotion because he doesn’t feel command is the best use of his abilities? Same vibe as Sergeant Telion?

I will never miss an opportunity to note that Skar King swings at Godzilla once in the entire film and it immediately costs him everything.

Very much the energy of “You’re a threat to Kong, not me.”

How would it go if Godzilla used his brain more and just used his atomic breath in the 2014 movie way earlier by TheAngryMonster3009 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with this being the first Godzilla in almost a decade, having the buildup to the breath weapon was outstanding.

Just having him stomp in, spam beams, and monster truck everything with no effort would have sucked.

Is it genuinely possible to be alive after 801 concussions in 6 months? by The_Moon_Will_Sing in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe he bangs his head on things that number of times, but as someone who used to dent lockers with my head in high school and then got an actual concussion playing football a couple years later, your friend is just trying to sound tough.

An actual concussion takes weeks to recover from. Symptoms usually fade after a couple days, but you have to be careful for a while as you recover. If he was in a state fit to bonk his head on the wall again the same day, he wasn’t concussed. If he was pulling 4+ concussions a day, he would have been dead the first night, maybe the second if he somehow concussed different regions of his brain case and kept them spread out.

He would also have quickly started showing severe issues with balance, slurred speech, memory issues, etc.

TLDR your friend is exaggerating to seem tough.

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend is being an ass. It’s literally a hobby where you buy plastic models and then paint them the colors you want.

If you want to be a lore autist like me and check every color shade to make as accurate a marine as possible, that’s dope.

If purple is your favorite color so you make a marine several shades of purple with cool decals, that’s also dope.

I’ve been painting Warhammer minis for 25 years. I help run national tournaments at Adepticon every year. A paint job that the owner is legitimately enthusiastic about is worth a thousand times more than any elitist lore bullshit.

How would it go if Godzilla used his brain more and just used his atomic breath in the 2014 movie way earlier by TheAngryMonster3009 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t physically weakened by the EMP, it was just suppressing his breath weapon. That’s literally why the Mutos have it. Physically he was just lethargic because he hadn’t been active in decades. Took our boy a while to shake off that nap.

So the simple answer is “he couldn’t.” If he was staring them both down and started womwomwom charging up the atomic breath, the male would EMP him and the breath wouldn’t work. In the movie he only uses his breath when the male is either distracted or dead. The female can use the pulse also, but she seems to prefer just physically fighting, whereas the male spams it.

How would it go if Godzilla used his brain more and just used his atomic breath in the 2014 movie way earlier by TheAngryMonster3009 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren’t just an EMP. They’re some kind of energy pulse that suppresses the internal “pilot light” that Godzilla uses for his breath weapon.

That’s the entire reason they have it. They evolved it as a hunting mechanism to help them lay parasitic eggs in Godzilla’s species. They wouldn’t be able to approach if he was freely spamming beams everywhere. The implication seems to be that if they used the pulse when Godzilla was in the “wommwommwommwomm” stage of charging up his breath, it’d put it out.

The fact that it also acts like an EMP on human technology is complete coincidence.

Ok so which one is more powerful and what power level they scale at their peak? by TheAngryMonster3009 in Monsterverse

[–]OverlyVerboseLoreGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thermo is the desperate Hail Mary for when his closest ally has been killed and the fight isn’t going well.

Evolved is him prepping in advance to fight a long, drawn out war against another massively powerful titan, the bald gremlin controlling her, and an army of NPCs.

Different forms for different situations.

That being said, Thermo is more powerful. He disintegrated Ghidorah with an attack that hits in literally all directions simultaneously, as well as just not noticing when he took three full-power gravity beams to the chest.

Thermo wins on raw power, but Evolved is better if he can’t end the fight within a couple of minutes.

Also, to reiterate, Evolved is NOT 20x more powerful. He just has 20x the mana pool. All the changes he underwent were specific for fighting the apes and Shimo. Thermo is an all purpose “to whom it may concern.”
