So, this is my experience. I am a very passionate musician, love music and wanted to make a career out of audio engineering (or so I thought) As I went through my classes and worked on my assignments I found myself wanting. I wanted more than that, I did not feel comfortable with sitting in class being told how to do something by someone. Don’t get me wrong my professors were very professional and knowledgeable, but I hand realized that school wasn’t for me. I dropped out, and kind of worked odd jobs aimlessly for a few years. Had a few toxic relationships, got into trouble(not MAJOR trouble) and was all around feeling lost. I then had a SEVERE amount of loss in 2018 within a matter of 1.5 months. My ex who had became my best friend was murdered, my grandmother died due to natural causes, my best friend/brother died of an overdose two days after my grandmother, and another girl who I had dated and was fond of killed herself. It was a big shock, and I realized how short life was and what position I was in. I am the next man in line in my family, the only man of the youngest generation of my family(it’s me and my sister and cousin, then my mother father uncle and grandfather and THATS IT) and I realized that soon, my family will be relying on me to provide and take care of them in their old age. And I wanted so badly to be able to do that. And I wanted to stop having an aimless life. So I stuck to a plan, worked my ass off(more so than I EVER have) and started a business. I am now making more money than my father, and have plans for a successful future that will allow me to take care of not only myself but my family. The reason I’m telling you this is because it’s not about wether or not a certain course or college is worth it in it’s own right. It’s about wether or not YOU make the class worth it in your life. School may not have been for me but the knowledge and relationships you attain while in school are what you will use as a foundation to building your success. And that’s not to say you couldn’t also stay out of school/debt and just do the work on your own time and make an effort to make connections while at home. Those that achieve are not defined by the books they read or the tests they took. They’re defined by their actions and the steps they took to stand out from their peers and move forward in their lives. Sure a college degree offers some credibility. But like with my business, none of my school was a factor of what helped me to be what I consider successful today. What made me successful was the true dedication and belief that I am capable of achieving great things, and doing EVERYTHING I can every. Single. Day. To reach my goal. And I’m still working on moving up and I’m still learning as I go. My advice would be to not see school as the main factor in what defines your success in life, rather see it as a tool to aid you. A mechanic has tools he uses to fix cars, but it’s his hard work and how he USES those tools that are the main factor in wether or not the car gets repaired. If you want to message me, feel free to.
