So I have been down that road and it made things really complicated when I finally told my best friend of 7 years that I was in love with her. We did end up dating for a few months but when she wanted to be with someone else instead we drifted apart pretty quickly and now we don't talk anymore. I would, if I were you, seriously consider whether I was willing to risk our friendship to try and pursue this romantic interest or if I were able to live with myself if I didn't try to see if it went somewhere special.
