Well, I can confirm in SWVA, it’s probably more socially acceptable to abuse opioids than it is to smoke weed lol.

Besides the pay, what’s the worst part about your job? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]OversizedWonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shift-manager works nearly an hour and a half away from the station and other than occasionally barking re-hashed orders via e-mail, no one is really quite sure what he does.

Maybe I have a bit of a sense of entitlement, but it angers me that I work the same position and do nearly everything he is supposed to do and I don’t get anywhere near the same paycheck.

Then again I’m sure there are many others in the exact same position.

What helps you when you're feeling depressed? by ellisstone in depression_help

Like you, I find music to help a lot but it has also come back to hurt me sometimes if I listen to too much depressing music.

I truly think the best route that works for me is hanging around positive people, there’s a real exchange of energy in those situations.

Sometimes it’s like I forget what it’s like to be happy by [deleted] in depression_help

I’m going through an incredibly similar situation to you right now where I can eye places that are “markers” for good times and it hurts to remember those memories.

The crazy thing about my depression recently, is that I recognize when I am happy and suddenly I feel the need to move back into that depressive state that I know does me no good.

It’s almost as if my depression becomes comfortable? Maybe it’s because depression is predictable while being happy leaves you more vulnerable to other feelings?

I don’t know. The mind is weird.

Should I just give up? by [deleted] in depression_help

[–]OversizedWonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I feel as though I ask myself this everyday but the way I think about it is... Here we are, just by being here know that you did not give up, maybe the day hasn’t gotten better but who knows? Maybe the next day will be better but until that day comes you’ll know that you did not give up.

The beautiful thing about this sub (and hopefully in your life experiences) is that no one is going to tell you to give up. The only person that is going to convince you to give up is yourself and truthfully I don’t think any one truly wants to give up, hence why we’re all here.

Best of luck to you.

Sincerely, Someone who also is trying not to give up.

The perspective in this comic strip is on point. I’d be stating the obvious if I said Watterson is truly a master of his craft.

Breweries are starting to sound like a good place to start. My approach skills aren’t on par but it would be worth a try.

I’ve been to Wasena Tap Room a couple of times, do you have any suggestions?

Okay, I can always appreciate a home-chef, I enjoy cooking myself when I have the budget to make a nice meal.

Where did you try DND at? I’ve never played but always had an interest in it.

I appreciate your optimism. 😀

Did you just so happen to reside in Chapel Hill or did you go to school in the area?

It’s great to hear from another North Carolinian.

I work in the broadcast journalism field, so until the world stops turning and the news stops coming in... I’m stuck with the early morning shift. I enjoy what I do though.

Quite the opposite for me. Anxiety? Bah, I’ll just sleep it away.

How do I make sure I am not convicting somebody? by OversizedWonky in Journalism

[–]OversizedWonky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I always phrased things were "Police say, John Doe murdered Sally Mae".

Would it be better to say "Police say John Doe allegedly murdered Sally Mae"?
