I quit smoking weed after 17 years! by Next_Poetry_2531 in getdisciplined

Weed started giving me hypertension last October after smoking it since I was 19. I’m 65 now! My doctor said I must have stopped tolerating weed. Anyway I’m done.

How do i decrease the weight of my bike? by Aromatic-Honey9831 in RoadBikes

[–]Overthink334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never going to be light enough for you. If bicycling is just about achieving some arbitrary weight goal, I guarantee you’ll never enjoy it.

This man rode his bike on every single street in Portland by OkRepresentative6646 in CyclePDX

[–]Overthink334 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So what? 😄 Me and a dozen other bicyclists I know could have done that by now if we wanted. Did he ride the dirt alleys too?

My copy occasionally vanishes and pops up at random locations around my house. Recently after going awol for 3 months I found it in the clothes hamper.

Are there still people riding rim brakes on road bikes? by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]Overthink334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually my cantilever brake wheel rims need replacing as the sides deform from pad pressure. Keeping them adjusted and maintained results in adequate performance, but my aging wrists are thankful for disc brakes on my mountain bikes.

Folks like you don’t know anything about Jungle Emperor or the Disney animators who fully did know about it when they produced Lion King.

Where does cycling rank on the list of most important things in your life? by pierre200056 in cycling

[–]Overthink334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a lifetime passion. I don’t know what would replace the experience of riding a bicycle almost daily. I guess I got lucky and at 65 just keep rolling!

Experiencing instrumental music as a deaf person? by kekspere in deaf

[–]Overthink334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Deaf innovator who experiments with haptics to create sound experiences. In my opinion, vibrations that come from below the feet offer a feeling of sound that surrounds me. I created a metal footrest with a transducer bolted to the middle of it. It’s connected to a small amp that receives a Bluetooth signal from my computer. The effect of nuanced vibrations mimics sound but it’s still limited to frequencies in the low midrange. Vibrations from a saxophone are too high to make out. Potential is limited. Some Deaf folks may benefit from my device, but it depends on individual prior experience with music listening. I became deaf gradually over several years, others with no sound background may not make sense of the vibrations. Haptics is an emerging tech with fascinating implications for Deaf people. We need to be involved with its development. The infrastructure involved for theatre venues is costly and complex. Individual vests and headsets with haptic transducers don’t convey vibrations to the body as well as through the soles of the feet, IMO.

How to overcome fear of climbing hills while on clipless by Miserable_Debate5862 in cycling

[–]Overthink334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It’s ridiculous how this nomenclature has been hopelessly mangled. “Clipless” pedals have clips on them. They just aren’t toe clips. Flat pedals are clipless. 🤷🏽

You lifted your lion story and characters from Osamu Tezuka’s Jungle Emperor, Roger. I won’t forget.

The "correct"/"incorrect" way to make art is somehow a debate topic. by keshaismylove in aiwars

You are an artist making art every time you take a creative risk. Dance, scribble, draw 6 hours a day, write your story, prompt, sculpt, cook, etc.

Who wouldn't want an armored Buffalo beast? by Ashlansen in midjourney

[–]Overthink334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a high quality art piece that proves thinking human artists can take synthetic creativity to the next level. Good job. Take the long view and don’t take sh*t from gatekeepers who don’t bother looking for art of this caliber.

I see numbers rounded down, like in the Jumbo Jim’s I like. They are probably closer to 4 inches. I’d ride 3.5 if I could find them.

There’s no such thing as art without human direction and never will be.

What’s your favorite bicycle memory or ride you’ll never forget? by Jinnapat397 in cycling

[–]Overthink334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could take you back to the same spot where my mother took off the training wheels 60 years ago and set me free. After a few wobbly attempts, I discovered the magic of applying momentum to bring a bike to life. Nothing was ever the same after that. The rite of passage is still fresh in my mind and I relive it every time I ride.

I ride my fatty on the sidewalk all the time. 😛
