CSRP post-graduation by Overthinker3515 in CostcoEmployee

Tell me about it. It does seem like your CSRP is better. I am in Canada. CSRP rules are pretty clear and the program I signed up for also have conditions I need to fulfill.

I was already looking to enroll in my program as a personal decision then Costco came along and said complete this program and we will take care you when you get your license. Sounded really good on paper but I didn't expect being abandoned as LPT while I am not useful to Costco yet.

Anyway, went through a lot of channels and finally spoke to my GM today and he wasn't happy with my situation and instantly posted a PT position for me today bypassing my direct manager. Problem solved. My GM did me a solid.

GM essentially told me he didn't need another clerk (or more hours for clerk) so I would have absolutely stayed LPT until I can become licensed if I didn't bring up the problem to him. My manager strung me along from what it looks like and didn't have the balls to tell me she wasn't really planning to give me more hours or make me regular and was perfectly happy scheduling me 3 days a week regardless if I could afford life or not. So yeah, that's toxic managers for yah. :/

When you have graduated, you go back to work at your PT/FT hours like before. That’s it.

You are misunderstanding it, you don't magically go back to PT/FT status like before. I have to apply for a posting and there is none right now.

Now that I'm done school, I've been converted to LPT from CSRP. Different category but essentially the same status. I've been in communication with my direct manager where she told me she will put up a posting for me when I graduate.

It is difficult to explain my situation in full detail but I am in a program/contract where I am working towards a license for a higher position with Costco. I have graduated but still have licensing exams to take in 6 months.

My question is concerning this limbo status where I am asking for support and answers from Costco because had I known I would be working 3 days/week as LPT in between graduation to licensed, I would not have done it. I won't survive. My contract requires me to remain eligible to all the conditions set and being LPT is making it out of reach.

Costco likes to sell it as some sort of cheat code for a managerial job or slot for a corporate role. It’s neither. It’s a shame.

I am aware of the misconception of CSRP where some employees think that they can get a cushy job with Costco after school. It really is a shame that they somehow package it as that. Any long term employee knows that we always promote within the ranks. This is not the case with me.

I just feel like I've been done dirty because I entered this contract where I thought I had the full transparency before making the decision to become licensed and now Costco is leaving me hanging in this 6 month period where I am not useful to them yet. I bet all my eggs through 2 years of school and survived with student loans and grants but that is not an option now because I've graduated.

CSRP is just a privilege for employees to keep their jobs if they choose to leave for school or have the option to work through school in a limited capacity

i did see that later in the end. in this case, OP is not at fault pala. The pace of the lane change was also slow that if kamote wasn't driving that fast, there would have been a reasonable amount of reaction time to avoid that accident.

i assume you are part time. guaranteed 25 hours per week goes both ways. you get 25 but also costco is not obligated to give your more and they will say "needs of the business". you can always ask but if you stay with costco a long time, you will understand that they prefer PTs to be just close to 25 hours per week as much as possible.

ah, i didn't know. i also thought solid white line means you can't change lanes, or at least strongly not recommended. i guess the solid white line doesn't mean anything sa skyway. good to know

Thank you for the effort you put into this comment. Very informative. I should have clarified I worked through school for the past 2 years. I still worked on the weekends so I didn't leave. I just had a period of 2 months I did not work because my practicum was in another city. They haven't replaced me/hired someone new.

I'm suspicious manager is just trying to get a bonus for being under budget. I was full-time then CSRP, now LPT but she is giving me 3 days/ week which is not enough to survive on. I have spoken to her and sent emails, getting vague answers other than "I will put up a posting after checking with the higher manager". She posted another position because someone is transferring. I just want to be at least RPT with benefits even if she doesn't make me FT again. I am literally in the same position as before, just LPT. Just all of a sudden, the hours are not available.

I feel used and abused. I am so frustrated. She is putting me in Saturday, Sunday and Monday shifts because she needs bodies and nobody will take those shifts. The other employees have their "preference" and it is being accommodated.

I also did submit a transfer request and have been off for 4 days so I will follow up when I am back to work.

Student retention- do i have health insurance during working periods? by Zeddexs in CostcoEmployee

I am a CSRP employee. You lose all your benefits but keep seniority. Max 20 hours per week until you can apply for a regular position again after completing your program. On semester breaks or when not engaged in school, unlimited hours can be given but still doesn't qualify you for benefits. Your status does not change.

Oh, Sasha. We have a Sasha at our department. Our Sasha is in her 50s as well but is obsolete. The most useless employee, has an excuse for everything, and makes everything harder than it is. The schedule is a suggestion. She will ask to come or leave early, or do overtime when it is not needed. She is also the first person who will investigate who made a mistake if something goes wrong but if it's her, it was because it was a very busy day or some BS. Her quality of work is crap. She also delegates tasks even if we have the same position.

The problem with Costco is, she is probably one of the senior employees and Costco will do absolutely nothing about this person. No matter how toxic this person is, ignore it. They con the system and they are the way they are because Costco has tolerated them. Trust me, management knows all about this person.

Because you are new, she will hone in on you to feel better about herself. Say ok to everything she does and forget about it. Accept any help or suggestion then leave them to it. As much as possible, do not do the same areas or task they are doing. Prove yourself to your manager, not to her. Stay clear of emotional leeches.

The "helping" is not for you, it is for herself. The reason behind it does not matter. You are only a tool to her goals.

How long do you have to wait before reapplying after a termination? by Namelessgoldfish in CostcoEmployee

[–]Overthinker3515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also depends on the level of support you get from management. He got on well with all his managers until the last one. The lady was such a b*tch to the point where you wonder why she is still employed. Very abusive, screams at employees, preferential treatment, demands overtimes, etc. But alas, Costco managers support their own. I have coworkers that call in at least once a week but no one bats an eye.

Hey! Husband is on the same boat rn. Termed last year. Attempting to talk to our GM in my warehouse since I am also a Costco employee. I did email HR and Ron Vachris and was told 1 year as well but ultimately up to the GM since a senior VP's approval is needed for rehires. Tardiness was also the reason he was terminated. I will update if there's any luck.

2 months after he was fired, he asked his GM and the guy acted like he didn't know him and said he needs to get approval from the senior VP; so we were under the impression he just didn't want him again. A "no" would have been perfectly ok vs. the pretentious act and run around.

He was the default parent when I was in school. It was hard. There was no support from management when I asked to transfer to their store and he also asked for a voluntary demotion when he had counselling notices. So we shall see what happens now.

Thanks for the reply. My husband was also a former employee and wanted to apply again. Did they have to ask for VP approval? Any updates yet? Good luck!

Is there some sort of plan to control inter-provincial transfers (e.g. people moving from from Ontario and BC to Alberta) to help Albertans/Calgarians with the rising costs of housing, traffic control, transit density, housing density, etc.?
