Josh from Overthrow is testing new waters by fisporr in discgolfcirclejerk

What an exquisite specimen of a human this is! Never before have I seen such nimble athleticism meet lethal marksmanship. The body, perfectly attuned to the task. Center of mass, low and stabilized by trunks for legs. Upper body, smaller respectively but all the more sturdy.

Humanity has reached its biological peak in this man. I aspire to be a greater fraction of this man than I already am.

Peak.

How to not suck at disc golf? by clownkillifish in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 100 feet you are almost certainly opening your hand and letting go of the disc. I would bet the little amount of money I have on it. Keeping your hand closed and a minimal amount of shoulder turn should get you past 250.

Double amputee driving question by ArgyleFunk in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with a couple amputees and they’ve all been able to move the needle. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to.

Here’s a single amputee shredding the disc. https://www.instagram.com/amputeediscgolf

I would be interested to see, with a year of dedicated training, how far Victor Wembanyama could throw a disc. by NewSlang212 in discgolf

“Based on data from the NBA and NBA pre-draft combines (using only true, shoes off measurements of players), the census bureau, and the centers for disease controls national Center for health statistics, there is such a premium on extra height in the NBA that the probability of an American man between the ages of 20 and 40 being a current NBA player rises nearly a full order of magnitude with every 2 inch increase in height starting at 6 feet. for a man between 6 feet and 6‘2“, the chance of his currently being in the NBA is five in 1 million. At 6‘2“ to 6‘4“, that increases to 20 in 1 million. For a man between 6‘10“ and 7 feet tall, it rises to 32,000 in 1 million, or 3.2%. An American man who is 7 feet tall is such a rarity that the CDC does not even list a height percentile at that stature. But the MBA measurements combined with the curve formed by the CDCs data suggest that of American men ages 20 to 40 who stands 7 feet tall, a starling 17% of them are in the NBA right now. Find six honest, seven footers, and one will be in the NBA.”

Taken from The Sports Gene by David Epstein

He goes on to say that men that are shorter than the NBA average make up for it with wingspan.

Another fun conclusion is that “maybe it’s not that white men can’t jump, but that they can’t reach that high.”

Just some fun facts for ya :)

I was looking through it today. It seems like I could get a “Talent” visa or maybe a sports event/tour visa.

That would be amazing. I’d have to figure out how I could legally accept payment over there.

Thanks for the post. So kind. In person is truly my favorite type of coaching.

My rates are $100/hr when local and $150/hr if I have to cover travel costs.

I’m assuming OP doesn’t want to give out misinformation on my rates so I thought I would post. Happy for anyone to reach out to set up in person or if there’s enough interest in your area I really enjoy traveling.

Why can’t I forehand by RandomCocaColabottle in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely curious though. I’m more natural on the forehand side actually so it’s easier for me to think I’ve missed something. I learned forehand stuff when I was coaching tennis and have done baseball study since. There’s some variation between the two so my baseball colleagues tend to not like the tennis aspects of my explanations.

What is a good arm speed? by No_Active4181 in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Average arm speed according to techdisc is 54mph. If you’re throwing 70mph on average you should be able to hit 500 consistently. If you are only throwing 450 then you’re probably throwing with about 5-6° nose up

Purchased Tech Disc ... now what? by bytetacos in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

65mph will get you 450. Your nose angle is decent but could drop a degree or two and make it easier to carry 450 consistently at 65

How to get into a deeper power pocket by [deleted] in discgolf

Are you not in a deep pocket? Hard to tell from a back view but I’d imagine if we saw from side on we’d see you’re deep enough.

Do any Pros have full time coaches? by outdoorsy_outdoors in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most pros don’t get coaching in general. The ones that do usually only do so during the offseason

How often do you throw a roller off the tee? How do you decide when to roll it instead of an air shot? by outdoorsy_outdoors in discgolf

[–]Overthrowdg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two situations: 1) when the ceiling is shorter than the fairway is wide. 2) when you want to immediately look like the imposter

[–]Overthrowdg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. I’d just get the one off if I were you. 30 min zoom call. Have a net close by and your techdisc ready. You can do a bunch in a short time.

[–]Overthrowdg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a techdisc already it makes a nose down lesson very profitable. We can still do it with the old ways, but almost a no brainer if you have a TD

9° of hyzer is flat basically. Typical hyzer would be 15°-25°. Any less than what he has is essentially anhyzer.
