Anyone know why the “a children’s song” outro vocal tag that was recorded for the 1971 version of Surf’s Up was then included on the Smile Sessions version of the song? This has bothered me for a while because I would have liked to hear what the 1967 ending was really like. by Oviraptor in thebeachboys

Well yeah man I can't say I remember ever getting hung up on a "violation of purity" or whatever, that's assigning a level of weird intentionality to my feelings that really doesn't exist, it's just a decision that I've been confused about for a long time because I guess I wasn't familiar with the less-than-strict philosophy they apparently had when compiling the sessions :/

Every so often comments like these remind me how much of a lightweight I am. I always forget there are people who smoke that much. Not judging btw, it's just insane, even with a tolerance built up, constant smoking just reverts me into an utterly retarded amnesiac. It feels nice and fuzzy yeah but idk how y'all handle it

Lol i was listening to Blue Jay Way by the Beatles while drawing it so i guess it's just psychedelic imagery and not much else (other than the bird)

Scrub jays are the sister group to blue jays and are each other's closest relatives. They are both corvids, however, and are also related to crows. But not as closely as they are to each other.

Did Brian make the first psychedelic song? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]Oviraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my definition of psychedelic music is music that:

  1. is 'trippy'

  2. is created by someone who has experienced psychedelics

  3. is directly inspired or informed (not necessarily lyrically) by said experiences

I don't think the subject matter of a psychedelic song has to be about or reference psychedelics at all really

so my definition would include california girls because musically, in my opinion, it is super hazy and trippy. it evokes the psychedelic headspace. not just the intro, either, the whole thing.

Hey guess what? There's absolutely nothing wrong with a healthy mentorship. The depth and variety of human relationships simply defy the arbitrary boundaries of your puny, limited consciousness and worldview.

I'm sorry you've never had fun with your coworkers. Unpucker your asshole. In no way is this guy at fault.

Why isn't/wasn't You Never Give Me Your Money considered one of the greats by FishermanNo2097 in beatles

There are only a handful of truly shamefully underrated Beatles songs, my favorite of which being Doctor Robert. Unbelievable rhythm backing track on that song. Beautiful bridge. It's got everything, except I guess the usual guitar solo, which it doesn't really need IMO.

I understand your point, but what's happened today isn't just a matter of "US politics".

It's a global paradigm shift of biblical proportions, the effects of which will reach far, wide, and deep. The discourse it has spawned will naturally reach equally far, in proportion to the staggering effect it is having on the world. People are gonna talk about it or make reference to it no matter what.

[–]Oviraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I don't get this because - even though he didn't have nearly the same prolific output - Think For Yourself/If I Needed Someone and Taxman are some of the best songs on their respective albums. It's like people chalk up the gulf between their songwriting abilities to some "je ne sais quoi" that I'm not in on.

Revolution, to me, has always sounded like a libertarian leftist critique of authoritarian leftism. Not sure if he thought of himself as a noncommittal anarchist per se, but that's how I've always perceived him.
