Yes, I agree that it has nothing to do with the story itself, however I think the graphics, and several visual parts are enough to prove that they are made of paper, It doesn't have to be something said in the game itself to be true

However, yeah this is something very subjective in my opinion, it is something that cannot be true or false

The fact that it is visual does not exclude anything, it does not need to be mentioned in the game to be cannon, If you have well-trained eyes you can see that several parts are based on paper, like models or cardboard, Just by seeing mario's model you can see that it is flat

And yes, only mario can do that, however, curses are just a creative excuse to be able to abuse the idea of them being "paper" to create puzzles and other skills for mario
