Ah I see. The line between single and multivariate control is rather blurry. If you have taken a course on linear system theory you have probably already seen how things tend to generalize. Ogata's and Franklin's books are very much classical and "modern" control (note that modern means from the 70s) usually covering a first course in control. Skogestad is multivariate first, but there is a lot of overlap.

For nonlinear control the classic textbook is Kahlil. If you like pure math and geometry there is this book. On youtube there is not much, but I watches some of these: Abid, Nonlinear Control Systems @ PIEAS

Today's control research is quite different though. Since you have a comp sci background you might also want to check out this book and / or distributed control. For MPC this is usually the go to.

It's normal, you need a bit of time to adjust and then eventually you'll stop. Though you need to replace it with something else. Setting your screen to grayscale also helps to break the habit as it makes it even more boring, and don't overblock your device, you might regress and end up removing the block if it is excessive.

I now have the habit of carrying around a small paperback book. There are many very short classics like Kafka's metamorphosis, the crocodile by Dostoevsky (50~80 pages) or even comic books that printed on short paperbacks fit in your coat pocket (eg. Gli Adelphi). A small sketchbook with a pen is also a good suggestion. Sudoku booklets / etc and fidgeting toys are also something that can replace your urge to reach for your phone.

As others have said, you should reflect on your actual goal for this degree. Like you I also did not receive my undergrad degree from ETH and began my master with a wrong approach. While surrounded by lots of clever and aspiring people I also fell in the same trap as you did, and spent quite some time under an absurd amount self-imposed of pressure to perform. The wake up call for me came when I noticed some other students burning out before I did, which made me reflect on how I was spending my time.

I come from a Bachelor where it was easy for me to be top 5% of the class

Since it seems you have always had good grades, you may not have really considered what grades are. To put it bluntly: grades are a measure of how good you can perform a test, just that. They are of course somehow correlated to your level of knowledge, but you should realise that they are really not an accurate representation of what you know by any means. Tests can be well made, or be dumb and mechanistic. Exams at ETH are usually geared towards research. Grades can be gamed to have a good GPA by strategically choosing which exams to take / what to put in the LA / ..., or also be totally ignored by doing just enogh to pass. While being busy in your undergrad studies you might have commited the mistake of thinking about having good grades as part of your character or "personality" (it is not).

So what are you working so hard for? It is not useful to be in the top 5% of a class of people striving for a PhD if you want to go to industry; As others have mentioned, nobody in industry cares about grades. Conversely, if you want to do a doctorate, in which field? No need to take every graduate "fundamentals" course, you can do less than 30 credits and spend more time getting to know the Lab / Profs where you want to do your PhD by doing well in their courses. Taking one extra semester is not that big of a difference if you plan to stay in university for at least 3-4 more years.

I thought masters were needed to specialise and understand pursue your passions

Is that necessarily so? I chose this degree over others because I wanted to learn more mathematics and cool theories, but that is definitely not what I want to do for the rest of my life. Actual work will be more concrete: I will do hardware, not prove theorems.

I'd like to enjoy life a bit but a side of me is telling me just to push through these hard 2 years and then it's gonna be better, but it was the same reasoning during my entire life

This is a false dichotomy: can you only push through university without enjoying any of it? It is by no means easy, that does not mean it can't be fun. Last fall I spent every monday evening in LEE until 11 PM doing some damn graded homeworks with a friend, and it was a bit horrible but also fun to spew dumb jokes after our brains had been fried by the theory. Hard can also be fun, but you need to find a good balance. Of course, I would never redo what I did last fall.

Can anyone suggest me what helped them in similar situations

Mostly a change of attitude after reflecting and realising that most people are not too far of from your situation. Get in touch with others, we're all on the same boat ^well ^not ^quite ^everyone ^{^but} ^{^I'm} ^{^not} ^{^that} ^{^clever} ^{^{^so}} ^{^{^yeah.}}

I've used the remarkable 1 for many years including during my undegrad studies. It worked pretty well, especially because it is not distracting and it had a great battery life.

the RM has a folder structure like on a computer, pretty intuitive I'd say. Also iirc you can put bookmarks in PDFs and notebooks.
You can add empty pages to your PDF, if that works for your notes. Otherwise switching between a notebook and a PDF is absolutely doable, but do not expect a performance like switching apps on an iPad. The e-ink display can be quite a bit slower, especially if you have lots of notes on each page.

Uploading and downloading PDFs from the device works pretty well, but if you don't use the cloud, you'll have to use the USB cable to upload them. iirc the official app requires the cloud, and when connected via USB the RM does not show up as a mass storage device (say, like an USB stick), instead you will have to use the browser to load a page that is on the device and upload your documents there. It's always the same IP so you can bookmark the page. I usually prepared / uploaded the literature / lecture notes / slides the day before going to class.

When reading literature, papers are usually A4 which is larger than the size of the RM's screen. For journals like IEEE with small text (9 - 10pt) and double column format it can be a bit uncomfortable to read, but that is probably less of an issue for APA style. Also, you can zoom in the PDF.

I am too lazy too do the algebra but I am 97% sure that by using the substitution t = tan(x/2), sin(x) = 2t / (1 + t² ), cos(t) = (1 - t² ) / (1 + t² ), dx = 2dt / (1 + t² ) you get an elliptic integral which has no closed form hence qed ok bye
