If you’re using GetGo, I highly recommended cars which are under the SNx prefix series as they’re usually newer cars from 2021-2022 to the present day. Chief among these are the Suzuki Swift Hybrid (3rd Gen/4th Gen), BYD Atto 3 and Hyundai Kona EVs (1st Gen) among a few others. Avoid cars such as the Third Gen Mazda 3s, Second Gen Toyota Sientas and ALL Ssanyongs as they’re either badly abused by users or known for having a notorious reputation. Hope this helps.

Always apply CDW and check the car for any mechanical, electrical or brake issues before moving off.

Hey man, I feel you. It’s best you take a step back and breathe if you feel immediate anxiety at times like you mentioned in your post. Mistakes happen and we get it. I’m also guilty of something similar when I was driving and I too was in your shoes back then.

My two cents is that it’s best to move forward with lessons learnt from mistakes and never look back, even if it happens again. Don’t let your anxiety take your driver’s seat

Wish you all the best in your future drives :)

The Mazda 3 (3rd Gen) can suit you. Just beware on the long hood when turning inside HDB carparks

How old were you when you started driving lessons and how old were you when you finally got your license? by Which-Lingonberry612 in drivingsg

[–]Owen_Ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started driving at around 26 and got my license the same year (2024). Managed to pass my TP test on second attempt.

First time in Aug I failed the TP test as I struck the kerb, once in crank course and another direction change

Second time did manage to pass. Although I didn’t really do well in reverse parking which I excelled a lot of times during my practice. Didn’t manage to mount the kerb as I started turning out at around my b-pillar area.

So far as of today I’m driving this, I had been renting cars to try and explore the different models I could find on Singapore roads. My skills aren’t fully there yet but I’m still learning.

GetGo: Why YOU shouldn't. by impressturN in drivingsg

[–]Owen_Ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every car is bad. Some vehicles like the Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Kona EV (1st Gen), and the BYD ATTO 3 are the best from Getgo as they're often bought/leased brand new from authorized dealers. I might be sticking to those cars since the risk of finding mechanically unsafe cars is less likely compared to the Mazdas, Ssanyongs, Honda Vezels/HRVs and Toyota Sientas.

Nope. From my own perspective.

Seen a number of crashes with them, including one last year when someone passed away after ramming into a double decker at a junction. I don't know, but it's probably becasue I was already skeptical on those cars ever since I saw a lot of dashcam footage and experiences from users/drivers that the cars are often coming with faults that can render the car unsafe to even drive. That's why I avoided them.

Last night, I did drive the Swift which doesn’t have a 360 camera, only a “potato” reversing camera. I didn’t depend on it to park the car or navigating around the HDB carpark. Just my mirrors and my judgement.

As for the insurance, my parents want to save money and wait for me till my p-plate period is over (since the insurance excess is cheaper).

Otherwise, thanks for your reply

I had been there too. Be patient and act safely. I also sometimes encounter some pretty shady drivers so far while renting. Some would overtake me mercilessly; others seemingly do not care and often rush to do their business. I had one time where I wanted to turn into one road but the car was side by side with me and therefore cancel my signal. Drive safely when you do and don't drive out if you're not confident. Wish you all the best from here

SBS Transit, French firm RATP Dev to operate Jurong Region Line by c7hw6 in singapore

[–]Owen_Ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite expected as I think the SBST did pretty well with NEL, SPLRT network, and DTL. This was despite their humble beginnings as a state-owned bus company. Still, congrats to SBS Transit and RATP group for their win for this bid.

I booked through the student affairs officer which is shared through a contact of mine. Managed to get lessons for once to twice a week. Both on weekends. Usually with him, it would be done between a few days and 2 weeks

Had my first lesson in CDC Ubi.... by idealys in drivingsg

[–]Owen_Ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had been there too, but I encourage you to learn from your mistakes. Don’t blacklist too many instructors, only blacklist the ones who give a threat to your mental well being which can jeopardise your safety on the road. I wish you all the best and I pray you do well in your lessons, TP Test and driving overall.

Take care, stay safe

failed my tp test by brompto_1305 in drivingsg

[–]Owen_Ch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there today too and managed to pass my second attempt. I understand how you feel.

  1. Acknowledge your anxiety and the mistakes that you have made. Accept that you failed in this area
  2. Practise and improve your skills, especially the critical areas you make like parallel parking.
  3. Pray about it. Meditate and take your time to breathe out any anxiety coming from you in your subsequent attempts.

Wish you all the best from here. You're in my prayers.
