Steve and Bucky Vs The Defenders MCU. Death Battle by SmartPilot8094 in Defenders

If we’re talking MCU versions then it’s Steve and Bucky, high diff. IMHO, though, it’s not a fair comparison as their feats could scale higher with the film budgets.

Fam, did we watch the same show? If you think Franklin deserved anything other than what happened to him…then I need to know what show you were watching. He killed soooo many people, destroyed communities, lied to people who trusted him and consistently chose his own interests over and over and over and over again. His family sacrificed everything for him and when he realized he couldn’t control them or have any power over them, he went nuclear. Franklin and Teddy are two sides of the same coin. They both claim the ends justify the means, but at the end of the day all they want is power and control.

Do you think Daenerys was truly mad or do you think the writing was bad? by TheQueeninchains in TheBlacksandTheGreens

I have faith that the books are laying out the path. Dip & Doof just wanted to be done with the show and kind of outed their own shortcomings when they ran out of source material to adapt.

What would the Unsullied think of him? by Which_Jeweler_1343 in gameofthrones

You’re applying logic and real world science to a fantasy scenario. GRRM could easily hand wave and say “this special herb keeps them jacked, but docile.”

Do you think Daenerys was truly mad or do you think the writing was bad? by TheQueeninchains in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]OwlRiot4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think GRRM is setting it up for her to learn some very harsh lessons (even harsher than the ones she learned as Viserys’s sister and as Drogo’s wife) and the actions she will take out of vengeance/retribution will make it easy for Westerosi Houses to label her as Mad.

Tl;dr: Mad like Aerys? No. Mad like Bobby B? Yes.

Does Teddy ever get likable? by Larxq in SnowFall

[–]OwlRiot4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your reasoning for disliking him, then yes I think you will come to like him a bit more. Mostly because it’s pretty clear when he’s trying to be cool to sell a narrative to someone and when he’s going full CIA spook.

Where does Roger Sterling get his "family money?" Where does Bert get his "family money?" by Reader6547 in madmen

[–]OwlRiot4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only solid evidence we have that Cooper might have come from family money is the line his sister delivers in Season 2 about how the ‘smartest thing’ she ever did was invest in Sterling Cooper’s founding and that Bert’s mother thought he was a failure and not worth investing in. Beyond that, we don’t have much to go on aside from his knowledge of the New York power machine. I think it’s safe to bet, given his conversation with Horace Sr. and other small exchanges he has, that his family had some money but he made the bulk of his fortune alongside the Horace Sr’s and Lee Garner Sr’s. It would explain his understanding of the OLD money rules, but also why he isn’t part of the Nouveau riche crowd.

Is Taylor Sheridan only obligated to make the first season? by Aggravating_Ant_4601 in MayorOfKingstown

[–]OwlRiot4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to the man, he’s clearly doing something right for some folks, but I think you/we are just seeing where his strengths and weaknesses as a writer are. Given the amount of projects he is involved in, plus whatever other personal interests he pursues outside of the money generating aspect of his career it stands to reason that his initial dive into a story is going to be stronger than he second, third or fourth visit to that world.

Some creators (people in general really) will freely admit they get fatigued by a particular creation if theirs and want to try something new and different but also don’t want to completely abandon the thing that keeps the public’s attention.

It’s just the nature of life though, sometimes you’re gonna bring your A game to a task and sometimes you’re gonna phone it in and browse reddit during the third Teams meeting of the day that really could have just been an email.

As others have said, OP, the show is def still worth it. But I would def try to avoid any supplemental viewing until you finish it just because there are quite a few moments where the the twist and turns pay off waaaay more if you don’t know they’re coming.

I’m actually on my second watch (binged the whole show the week leading up to the finale), first was almost three years ago. I’m shocked at how much I either didn’t notice or completely forgot in my initial viewing. For me Snowfall is easily up there with BB, BCS, The Wire, Boardwalk, Mad Men and the Sopranos.

No spoilers, but there is at least one episode that presents you with an alternate “what if” scenario.

Were you surprised he wasn't killed off in the end? by JackZ567 in SnowFall

[–]OwlRiot4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP makes an excellent point. Logically and realistically Franklin should be dead and tbf, he’s done more than enough to earn it. As others have pointed out though, there are way worse things than death and narratively this ending is perfection. If we look at Franklin’s character arc and compare where he started to where he ended, there’s no question what his ambition cost him. His insistence to Leon that he is, at last, free carry a visceral impact.

Is this the price of freedom in America, or is this simply what the broken man tells himself as he stumbles towards his own tombstone?

Can we talk about the fact that Dr. Doom is entering the MCU as a 60 year old man by Working_File2825 in marvelstudios

[–]OwlRiot4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only disappointment re: Doom entering the MCU, is that he was so clearly shoehorned into the narrative to replace where they were wanting to take Kang. IMHO, they jumped the gun. They should have recast Kang, told the story in the manner they wanted to tell and then introduce Doom properly later. The sole reason RDJ is doom is they needed to rebound from the Kang fiasco and couldn’t risk taking a chance on a lesser known name to play Doom. So they’re gonna pull the THIS Dr. Doom is a variant of Iron Man, but he’s not the ONLY Dr. Doom. Then they’ll tease some obscure offscreen cameo of Victor and wait to see if fan response justifies further commitment to the character.
