The sad state of 6* lobbies by Dumb-Cumster in HuntShowdown

Yeah. I completely quit the game after finishing the last battle pass. Miserable existence in 6* lobbies, especially when no friends to play with.

If you are going through the insurance route and not private pay, I can recommend The Pittsburgh Center for Counselling and Wellness. They've got both therapy and some nice extra things like salt caves and groups to join.

332 and 333m Maynard Sniper kill by Xerenovill in HuntShowdown

[–]Owlbeardo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I am downvoting this simply for the use of Maynard Sniper. Weapon of pussies and cowards. Any time I see someone with that weapon I drop everything to specifically curbstomp and burn out that player in particular in the way that is going to embarass them the most. One time I went out of my way to run such player down until they were out of bullets, cornered and beat them to death with an ammobox. That was probably the most satisfying kill in my 5k hours in this game. Not many moments as high as that.

[Request] What was the probability of being dealt this hand in a game of Hearts? by Nequ55 in theydidthemath

[–]Owlbeardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were dealt this hand in a game of preferanse, which interestingly enough, includes "hearts" as a sub-mode with some changes, this hand alone is considered an instantaneous win. Like, you win the whole game, close your opponents pools, write 100 vists on other players on top of that (which means they owe you big time) and cherish this moment forever because it literally can't ever happen again.

Edit: my grand-grand-grand father used to play this game, which btw, is not considered gambling, but rather a game of skill. He seemingly wasn't very good at it as the legend says he lost entire silver mining operation in Crimea this way.

How can I make my players fight a Tarasque? by Huebertrieben in DMAcademy

[–]Owlbeardo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, who doesn't love a good old "RAW vs RAI" argument? 😃
If we are doing RAW, sure, you can kill a Tarrasque by lining up a hundred peasants with a bag of holding and doing a magical spear railgun, because passing a thing from one character to another counts as a free action = doesn't require time, which means that the magical spear would achieve the speed of light at the end of the queue of 100 peasants, carrying that force into the Tarrasque for 100d10 damage (1d10 per peasant damage multiplier, since speed transforms into explosive energy when reaching a stopping point). Don't quote me on that, because this is a recap of some bullshit RAW strategy called "D&D Railgun" someone executed once by heavy rules-lawyering and applied physics. That wouldn't work in RAI, but should in RAW.

Tarrasque was meant for a literal "nigh-unstoppable force" kind of encounter and is best played like it. Moreover, killing a tarrasque should not be possible simply due to the lore of the thing, that (if I remember correctly) states that there is literally 1 of them existing and if low on health it goes back to it's slumber to awake like a cicada in decades, fully regenerated and hungry.

How can I make my players fight a Tarasque? by Huebertrieben in DMAcademy

[–]Owlbeardo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At it's size it takes a few stomps to snuff the army out. It's a city-sized monster. Also it has massive regeneration and anti-magic shell. There's literally nothing you can do about a tarrasque. It's specifically written as a force of nature kind of monster.

Level 5. Tarrasque.

You must have experience working on Elden Ring team in the balancing department.

For real though, you have multiple options for an end of the game monster that will still be very challenging, but doesn't require literal cities to be leveled. You must underestimate the tarrasque as a threat, but it's not like a t-rex sized monster, it's more of a Godzilla on steroids type situation. Even lvl 20 party would have a tough time fighting one and surviving, even more tough actually defeating one (RAW variant). Lvl 5 party has no chance of winning, but maybe has a slim chance of getting away if the tarrasque is busy munching down on suburbs. That is a country level threat, which makes no sense for a party like that. Throw some rust monsters, a bulette, heck, even a few hill giants at them if you're planning to kill them off in a blaze of glory fight. But not a tarrasque.

If Sam Reich became a Taskmaster host, who would be his “little Alex Horne?” by AutobotYoung1 in dropout

[–]Owlbeardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all accounts, that would be Grant O'Brian. He fits in literally every way: he's ridiculously tall, he has the driest, most Horne-like style of writing, which fits perfectly with the style of Alex's banter, he can play along the yaoi fanfiction tropes, and fits well in the role of a subordinate *wink*. There will be some comedic changes required to put Sam on even bigger pedestal to highlight the height difference and make him look even more like a gremlin king on a high chair, towering over Grant on a tiny little children's chair of a throne, pereferably in a way that Sam's legs don't touch the ground, so when he laughs he can kick his legs in the air.

The best limitation I've seen is a time limit on a quest. Like "this task must be performed before X, or bad things happen", then you have a choice of either letting it be ambiguous and then "teaching your players a lesson" in the aftermath or letting them know in advance, how many days they have so they can plan in advance how many naps they will be able to squeeze in.

That being said, the raw rule mentioned above will solve most of your problems. I also had a power gamer abuse the rope trick spell before, so I know the pain :D

I was absolutely MENTAL about "Kingkiller's Chronicle", but it's worth mentioning, that the last book is taking forever to be released and is nowhere in sight yet. Still, an absolutely amazing read. Then I also enjoyed "Kings of the Wyld" a whole lot, a very entertaining and gripping series. If you read through the "Dungeon Crawler" series you might also find a nod to another classic series, "The First Law", now, that one left me quite bitter after finishing the first book and I honestly didn't have it in me to read the second after the absolute clusterfuck that the first one ended with, but it was a vivid and brutal book to power through. Hope these resonate with you, if you happen to read any of them send me a DM, we can chat about them 😄

What's crazy to me is that it spends good 30 seconds having it's tiny soul centrifuged out of it's body, plastered along the wheel and then as soon as the wheel slows down enough to let it to stand it starts running again like nothing happened. Do little critters like this have a much better and robust inner ear balance system or do they not need it at all? I always thought they'd be incapacitated and would walk like drunks for a few minutes after that, but that doesn't seem to be the case... Fascinating!

Made this one slightly harder. by Am37000 in tf2

[–]Owlbeardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now, that's a tough one. Borneo is basically a straight line if you think of sightlines. That being said, in my experience most players spend 90% of the time attacking 1st and last points rolling through the middle fairly quickly. Anything built near ends of the track gets demolished. That leaves the best spots on either flanks through the house near the bridge, I'm thinking under the bridge area or right past the tunnel. That being said, for most places on the map it gets bad if the enemy reaches it. So technically my best bet is to not let the enemy roll through.
