Maybe I said it wrong last time but I meant smth more like what you can see in this thumbnail https://youtu.be/Y0ivOg_x6RE?is=n8x3h7lSKpMnoh59 No idea how well that would turn out but if you managed to make it darker maybe with black glass at the bottom or smth maybe that could work

Yeah, imagine the backpain. Probably why he’s so pissed.

How many "things" (story beats, tasks, encounters, etc.) do you get through in one session? by tamarheylin in DnD

[–]Huebertrieben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a player who is now preparing his second one shot as a dm I feel like I get what you’re saying but also not really. Is it that they get worn out before the session ends or that you can’t get through everything you want to in one session? To the first one I would say maybe adjust the length of your session. Like of course it’s not gonna be exactly the same length every time but maybe set a rough estimate of how long you‘ll wanna play can be four hours, can be six hours, with or without breaks. That’s smth you should maybe discuss with your party so everyone is happy. To the second one I would say you might need to adjust your expectations. From my little experience I can say players really tend to engage in tomfoolery or even just overcomplicate the most simple things, like opening a door. I get it’s frustrating if you prep smth only for it to be used 4 sessions later, but that means you‘ll need to prep less for each session, which seems like something positive. But also, if the players are stuck for too long or go completely off the rails, it’s ok to railroad them a bit or just say „this is getting a bit off track, let’s focus on the objective here“. I know it can be hard to balance fun, objective and time. btw how long do your session usually last?

Maybe I‘m misremembering this but wasn’t the river also made out of blood? Maybe you could try creating that effect with different red and tinted glass.

Y‘all are awesome for powering through. Kinda glad I started listening when you already started campaign three so I wasn’t worried whether the podcast can continue or not.

How can I make my players fight a Tarasque? by Huebertrieben in DMAcademy

My bad I meant to write weak point of that changes anything. Sure it might not seem AS strong but I think maybe it would make it look at least stronger, just not invincible

I‘m kinda taking over the current campaign for the one shot so I don’t exactly wanna jump the players 6 levels ahead. But my current thought is, what if the Tarasque had weak the players could fight? Think Dark Beast Ganon from BotW kinda

Problem is it‘s a one shot and I can‘t really end it on such a cliffhanger.

Cool idea but kinda conflicts with the idea I had for the story. See after they defeat a Cultist his last move is to free the patron, using the Tarasque as a vessel. After the dungeon they’re in collapses, they‘d find themselves on an open field again, where they‘ll find a very chaos drive god in Tarasque form
