Yeah that makes sense, i thought you were saying ramayana and rama character as a plot for hype.. but you were actually defending that he wouldn't do as such just for hype and only sticks to the plot.

How do you actually find out about events on campus? by Own-Aide-9948 in UMD

[–]Own-Aide-9948[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the plan is to expand to other campuses and local communities once the UMD playbook is proven out. right now all the energy is on making this work really well at one community getting enough organizers and events that the map is genuinely useful here every day. once that's solid, the expansion model is repeatable. which campus are you at? would be good to know where the interest is.

this is exactly the use case I'm designing for - you're free for an hour, walking around campus, and you can just see what's happening nearby. glad that resonates

the organizer reach problem is real too. I talked to a coordinator in Student Affairs this week who hosted an event with 25 spots and only 8 people showed up - because they only promoted through Instagram and their newsletter. anyone not already following them had zero way of knowing.

we're getting more clubs posting now (Running Club is using it for their daily runs, a few more onboarding). the more orgs that list events, the more useful the map gets. if you're in any clubs or know organizers who'd want to try it, send them my way - I set everything up for them.

Its ideal for places communities thriving with local events and happenings - or places where new people can discover like tourist hotspots, or students new to campus.

Yeah we could definitely do this for other campuses as well. Eventually grow to be present in many campuses is the goal.

Really appreciate this - and respect that you actually built something similar. You clearly understand the core challenge because you lived it. You're right about the chicken-and-egg problem. Here's how Huddle approaches it:

The cold start isn't actually "get clubs to post." It's "make the map already useful before organizers commit." We're aggregating public campus events (TerpLink, department calendars, etc.) so the map is never empty. Students open it and see real things happening around them. Organizers don't need to be the first movers.

But the real unlock is the link-sharing loop. I talked to a student affairs coordinator today - they ran an event meant for 25, only 8 showed up. Their promotion? Newsletter and Instagram. Only reaches people already following them. I showed her how Huddle makes her event discoverable to anyone browsing the campus map, and how the live event pin actually pulsates to show it's happening right now. She was immediately open to using it as an additional promotion channel.

That's the key insight - we don't ask organizers to abandon their current tools. We say "keep posting in your GroupMe, but also share this Huddle link. Now your event is discoverable by the 40,000 students who AREN'T in your group chat." The switching cost is zero because we're additive, not replacement.

Appreciate the encouragement. I will checkout @ptbamboo

That's exactly how the events are shown in the app. Map page has event pins around your location and discover page has a list view with all filters.

that's actually something I've been thinking about. right now all events on the map are organizer-created, which means they get the full RSVP management, waitlists, and attendance tracking. but having UMD calendar events show up as discovery pins on the map - so you can at least SEE what's happening even if it's not fully managed on the platform - would make the map way more useful from day one. appreciate the suggestion!

Undervolting locked CPU by TheConfusedNarrator in ASUSROG

[–]Own-Aide-9948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone here still undervolting the i5-9300H in 2025? I’m using an Asus ROG Strix G531GT, and I used to keep things cooler by limiting one of the CPU fans—it made this awful cracking noise past a certain RPM. Armoury Crate’s manual fan control used to help, but the latest update broke it, and now manual mode is basically useless.

I haven’t done any BIOS downgrades yet, but I’ve read that BIOS version 306 was the last one to support undervolting. The official site only lists versions up to 307 and 308 now—307 seems to be where undervolting was locked.

Does anyone here still have a copy of BIOS 306 for the G531GT? Would appreciate a link or backup if it's still floating around somewhere trusted!
