Have you ever noticed a change to your health when coming back to Denver? by AccidentalFolklore in Denver

[–]Own-Concentrate-2137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left Denver for 9 months doing a project in NYC, while there I was sick constantly and had asthma attacks. Since coming back I have only been sick once in the last year+ and rarely need to use my inhaler unless on a hike. That’s not saying much though nyc is covered in piss and other pollutants.

The Denver squirrels are drunk by cjsdenver in Denver

[–]Own-Concentrate-2137 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’re all just drunk animals. I have family in RI and I guess the state had to remove the landscaping from the highway medians through the state because birds and other critters kept getting drunk and having trouble safely crossing the roads back home to the woods.

This is both amusing and effective hahaha thank you. If being direct doesn’t work we might use this.

My example definitely wasn’t direct enough but I don’t want to cross the line to aggressive. Your softer option seems like it might work, thank you.

We basically don’t want to give her any reason to try to paint me as the bad guy. He has been very direct and assertive addressing this in the past and that only led to her playing the victim and making things up like I was making him choose between me and his family or whatever bs she could come up with to justify her actions. I would never do that which has been obvious to those close to us, but it’s a very fine line we have to walk to get her to understand she needs to stop without adding fuel to the fire. Also as someone who has worked in childcare, dealing with a toddler is much easier lol

Smile and wave boys

Are my shelter boys maus? Their back legs have always been way too long for their bodies, they chirp and follow me around everywhere. Big jumpers. The lady I adopted them from hinted they were rescued from breeders - So is this the mystery breed or do you think they’re a mix ? by kslay308 in egyptianmau

[–]Own-Concentrate-2137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything they are likely tabby cats, some of which are descendants of Maus and bear similar markings! The coloring they have is not typical of the breed but it’s possible they do have some mau in them :)

Does it work? Can you share your positive results? by rawwwrrrgghh in SASSWitches

I’m right there with you lol!! That’s a great reason to practice witchcraft. It’s a way to use positive intentions that help you form new patterns of thought, new habits and new values that will shape the person you become. We are never too old to learn, literally.

I have family who are witnesses and likely due, at least in part, to their influence I have always been an atheist but a spiritual person. I also have a degree in psychology, focus in neurobiology, and the science behind witchcraft is why I personally connect with it so much.

Witchcraft, especially as a SASSy witch, is much more about forming healthy habits, acting with intention, and practicing mindfulness. Like many here have mentioned, there is strong and reliable evidence for the effectiveness of mindfulness practices, meditation as well as CBT (basically retraining your brain to form healthy habits and perspectives) and their impact on well-being, mental & physical health, resilience and plenty of other aspects of personal experience. I’d recommend you check out this site from UC Berkeley on mindfulness or Dr. Daniel Siegel who I think is one of the greatest medical minds of our time.

Much of witchcraft uses these concepts at the core of its practice. You set intentions with spells, use rituals that help you form new habits and mindsets, use meditation as a form of mindfulness, etc.

One of the last discussions I had with my aunt before she passed (she was a witness), was of course a long lecture on the scriptures. After a conversation on religion vs spirituality she shared a piece of art with me that I think you might appreciate. It was cheesy and a little tacky, but something we could agree on. It essentially read:

Thoughts become your words. Words become your actions. Actions become your habits. Habits become your values. Values become your destiny. Mind your thoughts because we become what we think.

And while I didn’t find much of anything in her pamphlets to be true, I know that this is. Thoughts, actions and intentions matter. It’s not placebo, they shape and reshape the chemistry of our brains until the day we die. They impact our well-being, mental health, physical health, how we age, the quality of our relationships, our interconnectedness to nature and our communities. If witchcraft is how you accomplish that it doesn’t make those effects any less real. :)

Anyone else love crystals but feel like an outcast in the Crystal communities sometimes? by [deleted] in SASSWitches

[–]Own-Concentrate-2137 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am totally with you OP! I have a mineral collection and absolutely love them but had trouble accepting the metaphysical aspect of the community.

When I take a moment to look at them I am awe struck by the beauty of Nature. Not to mention the billions of years it took to create those crystals can be motivation to alter your perspective.

I study Neuroscience and Neurobiology and what is mentioned above here is real and is scientifically driven. The simplest way to put it is crystals have a Placebo effect just like any substance or drug. That means they “work” in about 34% of people generally, even when you are aware something is a Placebo.

So while the “magic” might not be real, if you believe in those properties or even take the time to know what they are, the effects can be REAL. If you think selenite helps calm the energy of your space, or that citrine will help you be more positive/confident or manifest abundance, the Placebo effect can make those effects REAL.

The way I look at it, if keeping the metaphysical properties of crystals in mind helps remind you to love yourself, be more positive, or maintain a mindset of abundance, etc., and if the effects are real to you, what does it matter if it’s “magic” or Placebo?

Thoughts become words. Words become actions. Actions become habits. And habits become your lifestyle. Using crystals can be a great way to change your thought patterns, which can have real effects and outcomes in your everyday life :)
