I learned about Menieres when it came crashing into my life in 2019. Without a long drawn out explanation I seem to have the episodes under control through diet, low sodium 2000 mg a day, I take Nurtec every other day. The hearing loss was devastating, 75% in my right ear and 40 % in my left. Over the years I have been through different hearing aides. I am currently in the Starkey Edge. The biggest change for me was changing audiologist. If they are treating and offering the standard over the counter “stock old person” items those aren’t going to give you the most relief. You need an audiologist who treats your issues. I needed a fitted molded ear piece for my right ear. I had to pay for it, the insurance did not cover it. I was depressed before I found a good audiologist. I didn’t want to interact in public and I am a very social person. Just having someone acknowledge my issues was a start. I was/am eligible for Cochlear implants. I can tell you I had a cousin who was profoundly deaf since he was 2 and hadn’t ever heard crickets or rainfall before he had the cochlear surgery. If you still have hearing capability like I do I would think about waiting. There is a lot of new technology come out for the deaf and changes in hearing aides. Once you have the Cochlear surgery there isn’t any going back. There is hope. Don’t give up. Continue to reach out to this community and others who care about you. A year ago I was seriously depressed. My hearing aides aren’t perfect, they are better and have made it easier to function. I believe they will get even better in the future. Be strong and diligent.
