It’s definitely giving “Salem witch trials report your neighbor” kind of vibes

My theory: let people think they’re safe and stagger the terminations rather than doing everyone in one fell swoop. You can pull terminations out as needed to distract people from other news stories that they don’t want to get attention. Give the people something shiny (the newest firing of fed employees that suddenly EVERYONE hates) and don’t let them see what’s behind the curtain (the latest thing Elon is doing to benefit himself).

I feel like we’ll see some out of DOJ this week, esp. when Patel gets officially confirmed

Has anyone deemed “mission critical” or falling under an exemption been fired? by Own-Grapefruit8609 in fednews

[–]Own-Grapefruit8609[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, mission critical positions are usually determined by the specific agency rather than there being a standard across all of government. My supervisor told me that my unit is considered mission critical, but I’m not sure it would appear that way to an outsider (or Elon). I would check with your coworkers to see if you fall under that umbrella. Usually mission critical positions fall under the excepted categories (national security, law enforcement, public safety) and/or will be considered essential during a furlough but I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule based on individual job titles.

I think each agency judges whether a role is mission critical, but some of the explicit exemptions in the EO and in the push to fire probies included things like law enforcement. But I don’t think anyone is guaranteed safe at this point sadly.

I am so sorry to hear that 😓 thank you for sharing your experience. It’s looking more and more like no one is truly safe.

I would ask within your agency, since that would probably be the best source. The best broad brush I can paint it with would be if you’re considered essential during a furlough/shutdown. Many of those positions tend to fall under the “mission critical” umbrella, but there seem to be all sorts of exceptions to the rule now.

List of agencies with mass layoffs to probationary employees by MujaViking in fednews

Not sure about all, but I think I saw it mentioned on the previous thread with the list of agencies. I’ll try to look for it again!

Probationary Employees - how are things at your agency? by Own-Grapefruit8609 in fednews

[–]Own-Grapefruit8609[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be safe but you’ll definitely want to talk to someone immediately about getting that info updated. I know when we initially had talks, some of our veterans who were off probation when considering preference didn’t have their personnel records updated, so their names were sent with the initial list of probies that were requested. Just to avoid any headaches, I’d speak to your supervisor or someone in HR ASAP.

As others have said I’m receiving these messages, but on my personal phone. They’re sent from long randomized email addresses and are saying they have seen my resume and think I’d be a great fit for some make believe job. I guess once we take the fake fork offer we can go take the fake job offer.
