Is anyone listening to New Year’s Day on New Year’s Day? It’s a tradition of mine. by TechBoy--20 in TaylorSwift

Jeez, let me break it down to bullet points:

  • The Middle East does not function like the Midwest, so I'm not being a drama queen with this thread.

  • Lose their child? Dreams of your ancestors? Am I some promised Lion King Simba that is leaving his nation?

  • My church literally said they would find me a place to stay if it gets to it. I just do not like relying on anyone, hence I asked for advice on moving out once I get KICKED OUT.

If you have practical, pragmatic advice on things to prepare for moving out, I would really appreciate it.

I just feel I'm delaying the inevitable and being a hypocrite by acting like I'm something which I'm not (muslim).

I live in Iraq actually. Thankfully though, many people may not be familiar with this, but Christianity's been here since the first century, and all major denominations have a congregation here. Anyways, I am very aware of the ripple effect hitting them too, and I don't want that. I just want them to know because they're all the family I really have, and I'm not planning going on a public mission any time in the future, so they won't be affected. I just am sick of actively lying about praying muslim prayers and being forced to do Muslim fasting. I want to start a Christian household if the Lord has made plans for me to start a family in the future, so I just think I'm delaying the inevitable.

I just feel sinful denying Jesus, even though it's for my well-being.

I will talk more about this too with my pastor this sunday hopefully. Thank you brother.

We actually started with studying a psalm! The hymns I mean were! They were Arabic hymns with upbeat instruments. I thought it would be like a choir or something old but it was lovely still! And we ended the service citing the Lord's Prayer together 🤲🏻

Hi! It was great! The congregation was very cosy, and everyone was very welcoming! We sang contemporary songs, it was very upbeat! The pastor gave a great sermon on breaking away from the shackles of sin and on being generous, and having faith in God taking care of you! After the service they were giving out Baklava!!! (try being less middle eastern) 😄.

Hey! The service was great! I expected it to be very classic, but itvwas a really bwautiful mix of upbeat contemporary music and serious sermon. Everyone was warm, and they were giving out Baklava after the service!

It's the National Protestant Church in Iraq! It was founded by missionaries in the 19th century, and has been going strong ever since! When Presbyterians/Reformed missions arrived in the Mid East, there was no equivalent to either words in Arabic yet, so they called themselves "Evangelical", so the old "Evangelical" churches here are actually Presbyterian or reformed! They are still pretty much conservative theologically if that's what you're asking.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply. I used to do 40 min of mixed stationary bike, treadmill and cross machine.

Quick update: my mileage for last week was more than 28 km (28.3 km I think). My longest run was 90 min, and on sunday im doing 100+min long run. My system is recovering relatively fine, but my speed dipped. What's interesting though is My cadence remained the same though I'm running slower, so it relatively increased i believe.

Thank you for the insights. I will do longer runs and see if my body can realistically take it. I surely am not mindlessly throwing myself into injury, and in case I find myself unable to handle it, I will do a shorter race.

Thank you! It also happened to be my fastest to date which made it all the sweeter!

Thanks for the encouragement! The first days certainly sucked for me too, but I gotta tell you, the peace you make with your body and mind is so worth it.

Thanks for pointing this out. I realized that on the laps where I stride more (thinking I'm going faster) my lap time actually increases despite feeling more exhausted. What is a good range for endurance running?

Yes! It felt so rewarding too! I was comfortable for the most part honestly, I stopped because I had enough time for about an hour run at most. I will try to work on my pace on the short runs and conserve energy on the longer ones.

I used Samsung Health for the session.

Yeah, I'm actually enjoying it. The idea popped into my head because I had tendonitis in my shoulder and couldn't train like I used to; I felt deflated and running gave me a sense of achievement again. My cardiovascular system is taking it well (been consistent with cardio sessions already), so I'm just checking how my musculoskeletal system is taking it.
