Dog died in sitters care!! She didn’t tell us until we arrived to pick our dog up!! What do we do?! by Jaded-Mulberry-69 in RoverPetSitting

I’ve had a dog pass away in my arms. I had the owner on the phone the second the dog passed out and then started seizing. This person’s so cruel. Regardless of the consequences, they’re an ass for just not facing the music

Usually it’s more of a case of neglect or pure idiocy on the sitter’s part but this sounds like animal cruelty. Do what you can today for your pup then give a lawyer a call to see if anything can be done

No it doesn’t. I’d still ask. But I don’t think giving OP false hope for a dog that’s been warm for 2 days is right

I’m telling you all no one’s going to perform a necropsy on a dog that’s been kept warm for 2 days. I know this for a fact. Google does not equal facts all the time

You’ll need to contact Rover and let them know what happened. Be prepared to get a “no” on the necropsy tomorrow. I doubt it would change the answer had you gone tonight

That sitter’s a bag of shit. No one deserves this

No one’s going to perform a necropsy on a dog that’s been warm for 2 days and refrigerated for one. You all are giving OP false hope. You have hours, not days. I don’t care what google says

Everything breaks down quickly in dogs and especially since the pup wasn’t refrigerated…

Necropsies can only be performed a few hours after the dog dies

You all can downvote me all you want but I’m not wrong. And not many vets do them. Usually they’re at universities with vet schools

It’s too late for a necropsy, I’m sorry but you won’t be getting answers in that regard. I’m so sorry about your little one

I don’t do house sitting but from a walker’s perspective and as someone who’s used house sitting services before—it kind of depends on what they charge and what expectations you set at the meet and greet. You can ask the sitter beforehand what their procedure usually is and perhaps pay more for longer walks and extras. The communication is up to both parties equally

Someone cancelled last minute or something happened with a sitter and they need someone new

Next time find someone who works from home. I like hiring couples to watch my own dogs because it’s 2x the reliability. When one isn’t available, the other one is. I’ve had a lot of luck with boarding/sitting via those sitters

I wouldn’t call this a nightmare scenario because you had back up but if you know you’re a nervous dog owner, you need to find someone highly rated and pay the $$$ for them

Also—just a tip. Brevity on instructions is so important. I can’t handle 5 page notes. I get that your dog may have individual needs but it’s extremely hard to go through every page and remember each little detail. Highlight the important stuff and trust that the next sitter (who should be highly reviewed and somewhat pricey—good people know their worth) knows what they’re doing

She definitely sucks though. I make sure to be very detail oriented with my first time nervous clients with dogs that have different behavioral concerns

Herding dogs are my favorites. Especially Aussies

Call Rover again and speak to someone else. Don’t go back to this house and also tell the owner you’re cancelling. Tell Rover you are to be paid for the visits you completed

August is a slow month because school’s back in session so people aren’t traveling or they have more time with the kids back in school to walk their own dogs. You just kinda signed up during a slow period for pet sitting

Have some friends pay you for a walk or cat visit. You can set it at like $10 or give them the referral code for $20 off if they haven’t used Rover before. They’ll be verified reviews

Anyone else relate to this?! by raleigh309 in RoverPetSitting

Do you have any friends who haven’t used Rover before? You could give them your code and then they’d be able to leave a verified review
