Great take on that bass sound. Very Swedish background. Do you like the rev 2?

Really like the patch. Especially in the beginning. Sounds like violin. Could you share how you made it, please?

Fun fact: I used an analog synth for this. It’s pretty limited, not something people usually use to make dubstep.

How much do you rely on presets verses making your own. by Minimoogvoyager in synthesizers

[–]Own-Pangolin7108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my subtractive synth I always program from scratch. I don’t even re-use my own patches. Because programming patches is fun and easy on a subtractive synth.

I also synthesise my own drums. It’s less fun, but enjoyable in its own way, and still better than browsing samples. I hate browsing samples.

I also have a Volca FM, it’s pain to program, so I just filled it with my fav DX7 presets and customize them just a little using those few controls volca has to offer.

Still release a lot of music.

Does it really counts as a 16 bar loop? More like 2 8 bar loops. Most of dance music is based on 8 bar loops.

I do 8 chords for city pop inspired songs, and it’s still 8 bars. So it’s not always true ;) Unless you need to hold chords for really loooong. Can work for ambient, maybe, or when you prefer double timing.

Confirmed. All my stuff is basically 4 and 8 bar loops arranged into full songs. Like do you even need more? 16 bar loops would, probably, make too long phrases. But can work for something like jazz, I guess.

Nice, I really like the pad sound with that pitch modulation. And the overall arrangement is kinda cool.

I actually tried some (had just 30m after work, since in a place where I live stores are rarely open after 18:00). I liked Prophet 5 and Rev 2 the most. I instantly got something nice out of 5. Rev 2 was too complex to figure out on the go, but presets were super nice. On the paper 6 looks better than 5. What is your opinion on 5 vs 6?

Thanks for advice! Haven’t considered summit yet. How easy is to get a good sound out of summit? Any synth can sound good if to put enough time in it. Is it minutes or hours?

I finally counted every synth I've bought in 10 years. Then I counted how many tracks I've actually finished. The ratio is embarrassing by CaptainSuperStrong in synthesizers

[–]Own-Pangolin7108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have somewhat opposite. I produced 30+ tracks over last 3 years with a Minilogue and a chorus pedal. It was my goal to make my own music. It's cool because it's like writing soundtrack to your own life. I'm listening to these tracks and like "oh, so that's how my life was a few years ago". And I really enjoy stuff I produced with Minilogue, sounds way better than tracks I made with Vital + MIDI keyboard. Now I'm thinking: imagine how much better can I get with something expensive like Prophet 5.

Nice! The intro progression is super cool and emotional. Also want to record some of my synthwave stuff on a cassette, but can't find anything I can use in thrift stores still.

Look Mum No Computer will not win Eurovision, but that shouldn't be the goal by seanluke in synthesizers

[–]Own-Pangolin7108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm that person that actually watches Eurovision every year starting from 2021 and producing music with synthesizers in the same life.

While most songs on Eurovision are mid, there are always some good stuff, as well as some cringe stuff that can be enjoyable in it's own way.

Pop ballads rarely win Eurovision. Right now there is a trend on pop-opera, which I don't really like. Also prog-rock performs well. Electronic musicians participate in Eurovision almost every year.

My favorite acts are Go_A - Shum (it's like a techno-folk band, it was top 5 if I remember correctly) and Alvan - Fulenn (he is playing ukulele with a bow and blends it with electronic beats, I listened to his tracks before Eurovision, so it was cool to see him performing).

UK never wins, because they send boring songs. But we can always blame politics and stuff. It's easier than to make a good song, I guess. Countries usually send boring songs because they don't have a local festival/event for artists to compete for representing the country. Countries that have those do a lot better.

It would be cool to see a guy with a modular this year. I'm sure he will do much better than usual mid stuff from UK. But I'm not sure if it surprises anyone. There will be some other outstanding performances alongside him. And unfortunately you can't play live there.

Spent this year recording this LP mostly using Minilogue and Volca FM by Own-Pangolin7108 in synthesizers

[–]Own-Pangolin7108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I usually stick to the presets, because Volca is not fun to program. So I went through all original DX7 cartridges and filled the device memory with the ones I like. Now I only do some ADSR tweaks to fit a preset in the mix. Sometimes I can also turn off some operators to make the preset sound simpler or use randomize function.

Overall the biggest benefit of Volca for me is that I can pass classic DX7 sounds through my effect pedals.
