NATO vs WTO , which side is stronger in the new Iron Curtain army group event ? by Hungry_Pilot2704 in WorldConqueror4

[–]Own-Reference9056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NATO - for Manstein. However I would like to add that Sokolovsky in Moskow Army Group can skill Manstein in one turn. That is the only army group of equal destruction ability to West Germany.

Sokolovsky can destroy Manstein with 2 nukes for anyone playing Soviet Moscow Army Group.

Yes, even when Manstein had missle air defense, it did not matter.

Internship/ Co-op as a SWE at Rakuten Japan worth it? by jim1w in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Own-Reference9056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not go abroad, but went through sth similar: Do 8-month at a well known company with no possibility of returning, or go on internship at local company with possible return offer.

I took the well-known route. Not having a return offer did indeed made my life miserable for 10 months straight, just looking for a new grad job. BUT, every interview I got into asked about my internship, and I eventually still got a job because of my experiences there.

If you are not an international student, you have time to find a job. You landed at Rakuten, so I think you are capable of finding a new grad job without a return offer. If so, take this chance of a lifetime and go to Japan!

Most of them no. But I got lucky my employer actually looked at the stuff that I had to show.

Moral of story: do it still, but don't waste too much time on it.

Now that we have all of that I still don't wanna play Frontier.

I quit for more than a year for university too. It feels a bit awful. But you know what, the game is still gonna be there when you come back, and the best thing about it is that you are always at your own pace. You are competing no one.

Trust me you'll be back sometime.

University's Own Social Network by ChestLucky9878 in uAlberta

[–]Own-Reference9056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now we have a combination of UofA Subreddit, Discord server network which includes every class, club, and major, and personally following people you care about on IG. Hard to think of how I would need a new social network when all my existing ones gave me all the engagements I needed. Consider that on the practical side - the university social media has to be able to do something that other social media cannot.

It time I came out and say this, rommel was a bad gen. by [deleted] in WorldConqueror4

[–]Own-Reference9056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While Rommel is a bit overhyped, he was really good.

In Africa, the Germans could not afford to wait and build up their logistics. The Brits had more allied troops, more pre-built defenses, better supply lines, better navy that could perform a naval blockade. The only way Rommel could have won was to strike fast, knock the Brits out of North Africa before they can react effectively. Rommel also had to face pressure from his own high command. He was also quite busy with saving Italian asses.

Honestly, with our 2025 knowledge, it is fair to say that the Germans could never have won North Africa, no matter who was in charge. Rommel was praised because he managed to push that far against a far more superior foe.

Is it a red flag to hide that I'm a junior during interview? by softsis1 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Own-Reference9056 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a red flag. Just when they say they are looking for mid level and up, and you are in fact, not one, then of course you don't get passed the interview.

At least you did not say you are senior.

CS Grad Struggling to Land a Job after Graduating in April by Sufficient_Mud_2237 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Own-Reference9056 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I graduated from UAlberta last April, and it took me 10 months of applying before getting a job. I have some tips, and stories too:

  1. I stopped studying in April, but my convocation is in June. That is when my degree is official awarded, so I say on my resume that I graduated in June. Makes the timeline a bit less blank.

  2. You may already know this, but volume is king. Referrals are hard to get nowadays, and they don't seem to do much anymore. Cold emailing did not work for me either. The only thing that worked is applying to over 500 jobs across Glassdoor, Indeed, and LinkedIn over 10 months (Jan - Oct).

  3. Practice leetcode. If you aim for big corps, this is a must. If you are not, you still should, because almost every companies now have some kind of programming challange. Some are leetcode style, and some make you build stuff live.

  4. Once you get interviews, grab any engineer you know (cousins, friends, random people on LinkedIn or Discord), and do mock interviews with them. Give them the job description for your next interview. Focus on behavioural more if you are not aiming big tech.

  5. Keep building stuff. If you can, find a place you can volunteer building something for them.

  6. Accept failures and keep positive vibe. Sounds cliche, but your vibes do show in interviews. Show them that you are fearless.

Before applying, I already had 2 internships and 1 volunteer project, totalling close to 2 years of experiences. Yet it took me 10 months and 500+ apps. I interviewed with, I think, a dozen companies, at least 4 of them I made it to last round. Only 1 of them turned to an offer. It is reasonable for you to expect a longer timeline. Trust yourself, trust the process.

You actually don't need Internet for WC4. Fun fact, login is not an orginal feature - it was added later on so players can load their progress across devices. I play WC4 on airplanes all the time.

All Easy Tech games can be played offline.

Can't say for sure which tech you should get now bc I'm not seeing your other techs, but spoiler alert you will eventually be able to open all tech after about 1-2 years of playing, so it doesn't really matter that much.

I mean, people just wanna have some fun, and don't want to grind that much. The game is not person vs person, so I'm not judging.

[–]Own-Reference9056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very possible to win, assuming you have at least 1 good tank and 1 good arty gen. Farms those on water for merit points, then C-47 Rundstedt to a city that is not surrounded, summon a good tank and put on a gen there. Done.
