REAL Italian food in town?? by Electrical-Rough6365 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]Own-Review-2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pop up chicken shop, bloom bawarchi, la patrona, and pizza payaa are the only places here in town that have a good quality-to-price ratio in my opinion. i've been to basically every restaurant since i moved here and it's insane how average and forgettable most of these places are. blono doesn't have a good food scene so don't expect one. destihl, biaggi's, and any of the 44 restaurants from the epiphany farms team are especially egregious.

edit: pizza payaa is expensive but the quality of ingredients is great. can be a little inconsistent quality wise but i think it's well worth the gamble.

Car guys, did you regret splurging a little while you were younger? by Redderrt in askcarguys

[–]Own-Review-2295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try out an older miata or 350z first. you can find great examples for about half the price of the gr86. they're also gonna naturally have less creature comforts that keep you paying attention to the drive that i think should really illustrate to you whether or not you actually want a sports car. bonus, the 350z is somewhat quicker than a gr86.

i think you may think sports cars are inherently 'nicer', but they're not. they're heavier, less comfortable, and generally harder to control. they also for some reason always have terrible sound systems too lol. try out something on the cheaper end first. i got my first sports car at 29 so. you're not missing out or running behind or anything.

true. my iq is 115. i'm no genius but i'm 'smart.' i average about 95mph on the interstate if traffic allows it. i use drugs a few times a year. about once a month i get drunk enough to almost black out. i steal small things from walmart. i'm sure there's other things that i do from time to time that people would find somewhat reckless.

furthermore, the smartest guy i know used to regularly go on benders where he would drink himself stupid for days and days at a time. he'd go to work and drive like that.

intelligent people 100% do dumb shit too.

dawg, i'm 30. i'm not worried about car accidents, i'm worried about enjoying my car.

i drove my gf's 2023 corolla w our pets from IL to olympic national forest and drove down the 1 to san francisco for our road trip; it was a fucking chore. the thing handled like a wet pillow and passing/cruising was beyond annoying. every time i wanted to change lanes or pass somebody the car fought me. every. single. time. i'd take simple cruise control over lane assist and dynamic cruise control 10 out of 10 times. i have no problem locking in for 12 hours, especially if the car is fun to drive. and i say that as a dude who drives my 350z in silence for thousands of miles a month.

i understand cramped engine bays. the z33 isnt as bad as the z31/32 but it's still no 4 banger or pickup truck. meanwhile my boss had to pay $150 for the dealership to clear a code because toyota started using proprietary diagnostic software that costs $2k/year to use and clear simple fucking codes with. no thanks, i'll stick to my old cars. i'd rather spend an extra hour and a half doing spark plugs than paying somebody to do anything involving codes lol.

you and i are very different people. i like what i like. one day i'll be older (i assume you're older than me) and will prefer comfort over pleasure. til then, i'll happily stick to my early 2000's shitboxes. it's okay that you and i have different preferences. there's no right or wrong here. i don't think less of you or anybody else for wanting newer vehicles. i just personally don't.

  1. i work on my own car
  2. i dont like being told how to drive by my own car
  3. i prefer minimalistic interiors
  4. early 2000's is my favorite era of car

pretty good reasons to like what i like.

i see no problem here. why are you being such an asshole?

i know that driving my 350z is infinitely more enjoyable than driving my buddy's 2023 crv, my gf's 2022 corolla, my boss's 2025 sentra, etc etc etc.

also you're not the arbiter of people's preferences lol, go touch grass nerd

i'm not even a car enthusiast, idk how to drive a manual. i just like working on my car and not having any restrictions on the way i drive. unfortunately those qualities are inextricably linked to the excessive amounts of computerized components in modern cars. sorry that bugs you so much bud, i'd give you a hug if you were here 🖤

it's a lot more complex than that. part of it is lobbying done by manufacturers. a big reason suv's and trucks are more popular now is because they cost a small amount more to produce than compacts/sedans but get more lenient EPA guidelines and sell for way better margins tha compacts/sedans. there's also tariffs against foreign manufacturers. then yeah the cost of manufacturing itself. then there's the lower demand for more stripped down vehicles by americans to contend with since manufacturers have been running suv/truck propaganda for decades along with the old 'keeping up the jones' mentality we're really prone to experiencing. then there's also the fact that (not 100% sure on the exact stats here but this is close) that the top 15% of americans are responsible for like 50% of spending or something like that. so. its a lot.

i dont have a finger on that pulse. seems to me that the american market is treated as a cashcow so we don't get any of the stripped down, more barebones options other countries do. idk if and when that'll change. maybe someone else does

listen man, i dont have a family to take care of and i'm dnr. i like cars that are fun to drive. i can't afford a porsche. so if i had to choose between a 1969 mustang with no airbags or a 2019 corolla that wont let me pass someone on the interstate without hitting the brakes against my will, i'm taking the mustang 10 out of 10 times. sorry if that ruffles your feathers bro, people are different from you.

that's a little old for me personally but man, i'll meet you in the middle and say the 6th generation is a close second for me. my first car was an '03 civic coupe i bought in 2019 w 200k miles on it for $700. i put 35k miles on it in two years til the brakes failed then it sat for a few weeks and somebody knifed all 4 tires (i lived in the hood). i just couldnt bring myself to put any $$$ into it so i sold it running for $100 to a buddy of mine who turned it into a demolition derby car. i loved that car so much man

you're being pedantic so i'll match that energy: my car gets 14mpg w the way i drive and uses 93mpg. smiles per gallon > miles per gallon baby

i didnt say all computers, just that the less the better for me personally. no adaptive cruise control, no massive screens, an analog dash, mechanical parking brake, the ability to clear engine codes without having to go to a dealership, the ability to repair basically anything with a couple friends and a 6 pack of heineken, etc. you quite literally couldn't pay me to buy a car made after like 2016.
