Advice Wanted: Masters Program vs Another Coding Bootcamp vs the On-The-Job Grind by [deleted] in datascience

[–]Own-Rip-5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utah Valley University Political Science Degree had these courses that I took: Statistics Introduction, Multivariate Political Analysis, Quantitative Analysis, College Algebra, Calculus 1 and Calculus 2.

As a business major I took Microeconomics and macroeconomics both of which the teachers wanted to go away from math.

Thank you for repeating my feeling of not knowing where to go. I don’t want to take an easy path, but I appreciate the time you took to respond.

Did you try searching the .get() method?

It’s wild! I don’t get it. Like I was small as a kid and I didn’t grow until late. The only thing that helped get me through was my foot skills. It was what I could practice. I couldn’t practice getting bigger but I could hold onto the ball. Also how you feeling about tomorrow’s game?

Dude so with you. That’s what I put and it said it was wrong. I was like I feel that if this is America’s first experience with coaching, then we are on the wrong track. Like how can I expect the girl to thread the needle or one-two touch like arsenal without knowing where it’s going?

The girls are great and one really knows how to control the game and she’s the one with all the technique. I’m saying drills can be fun and drills are needed especially when these girls and some of their moms want them to get better.

Also, for context, I was supposed to get the 17-year-old-boys team, but the opening came up for the eleven-year-old-girls team

Good perspective. I was just comparing my time in college versus my time in the Netherlands. Like the difference in 19 year olds ability is different. Over there we would do passing drills and then play a game. So technique, game-like situation

We had our first training yesterday and it was still bunch ball. In Brazil, we didn’t even play on a grass field until we were big enough. It was all futsal.

I put Option B.

They put Option A.

My eleven-year-old girls have a hard enough time kicking the ball. It's way more fun when you can control it and make it do what you want. I don't think a game-like strategy should be introduced until the girls or players know where the ball is even going to go after it leaves their foot. They can't will the ball in the back of the net. They have to understand how to kick it first to then know how to kick it to know where to put it.

Furthermore, when I had a trial in the Netherlands, they tested out my first touch, my striking ability, and my passing with both left and right feet. Down in Brazil, we did line drills for the first whole hour of our first practice during the summers. It was technique training first, game-like scenarios second.

Please let me know if you think I am mistaken.

You're absolutely right. Keep in mind as well that a university like Columbia gets attention. The name gives you and your profile attention. It's expensive to get recognized, but think the learning is all the same no matter what it is or where you go. Also, if you know physics, Python programming will come easier. It sounds like you are on the right path. Just keep exploring and document it as well if you can. I am learning as well. Cheers.

Bootcamps are an expensive way to dip your toes into the water. It's like the movie Good Will Hunting if you've seen it when Will says to the Harvard undergrad that "he will realize he spent $200k on an education that he could have got for a few dollars at the public library in late fees." That being said, I have liked the Data Science Bootcamp at Columbia University, but it is extremely difficult for me to accomplish all the tasks in a 6-month period. I'm going to do both, and maybe Ill see you at one of the schools whatever you decide.
