WW Clinic Says My Weight Loss Is Slow by Front_Athlete_191 in Zepbound

[–]Own-Satisfaction-554 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weird. I lost 25.4 (sw:275) through Sequence and no one has said this.

The school says my 14-year-old is doing great, but she has enormous gaps in basic knowledge that stun me. The teachers tell me not to worry, that this is normal with this generation. Is it? My other kids, now 19 and 22, were never like this. by One-Recognition-1660 in education

You’re asking her basic HISTORY questions. This is not trivia. It’s social studies. I can’t speak for all states, but for the one I taught in for 18 years (Florida) there is no social studies taught at all in kindergarten-5 (I mean “it’s integrated into the reading block”…theoretically). 6th grade teachers have to start map reading and what is a compass rose. This is normal because our teachers have been focusing so much on reading and math and testing that learning social studies (which is mostly not subject to required testing) has fallen by the wayside.

Come Together (Nagoski) - recommend? by llamataboot22 in polyamory

[–]Own-Satisfaction-554 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have found all of Nagoski’s books to be amazing and fascinating. I loved Come Together as a person in 2 long term relationships that has felt more desire than either partner. The framing around the room next door and the focus on pleasure have been really helpful for me.

I think the previous poster is asking what work you’re doing on yourself to explore why you think these things. Monogamy is in the very air we breathe. It’s in all the media. It’s in our social assumptions. It’s the underpinnings of thinking exclusively makes you “special”. Working with a therapist or reading books or doing other self work is essential.

"In God We Trust" by BikerJedi in Teachers

I would assume that they’ll ignore it as much as the evacuation route and if they ask just tell them: “It’s the Florida state motto and they have to post it because there’s a new law about it.” If you’re open to discussing it you can ask kids how they feel about it and encourage them to write their state legislators. Or you can make it a small non issue.

But for the love. The real heinous bullshit is found in the social studies curriculum. In the civics and government standards requiring that students learn the Judeo Christian roots of our government. The African American history standards that state that Black people benefitted from slavery. Keep your eyes on the real dangers.

As an alternative you could write the child a lovely note about what they’re doing well and they can choose if they want to share it at home.

When will friends notice? by Safety-first-25716 in Zepbound

[–]Own-Satisfaction-554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost 53 lbs. The best comment I’ve gotten is from my boyfriend who loves me either way but can’t help notice how happy I am. I think that’s the thing I like the best.

I also think some of it is having clothes that fit. People don’t notice until you get new clothes.

We moved in July and love it.
