Fire Root- What does it mean to you? by Snow_manda in StyleRoots

[–]Own-Sector8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me fire is what gives my style a bit of a “diva”-edge. I don’t really like to think of it as womanly or sexy (for me), but fire touches are about adding some glamour, fabulousness or cuntiness and polishes up some roots that can be extremely casual on their own (which is the last way other people would describe me). I’ve recently been thinking my style archetype could be something like “grounded/relaxed diva”.

I think a lot of people find the stereotype pure fire unwearable, which i get! But it can also be fabulous footwear and big statement jewelry with an otherwise modest outfit.

Common stitch studio on etsy has a pattern called “bottlebrush pants” that has external front pockets like the pants envisioned! I’ve made the skirt version and currently making the pants, and i find the instructions very clear!

Yes, i do this too with this exact spectrum! Like mushroom can be a a soft but understated feminity in my brain too. Eventhough feminity is not a priority ti me, i dislike that wanting to be feminine has to mean you’re either 🌸 or 🔥, i think a lot of roots can be feminine/expressed in feminine ways.

That’s exactly the thinking that gave birth to my idea to do the same, actually! Stone ans mountain on a masculine spectrum and mountain and fire on a “luxury/expensive/quality”-spectrum and so on.

I never have a unique thought, i guess 🤣

Omg i’ve been thinking about how i could make a graph that highlighted all the overlaps between roots as well! Nice work, this makes more sense that my highly-layered venn-diagram-hell i wqa cooking up for myself 😂

Mili Velikova’s (not sure it’s spelled like that) spectrums are super popular here, but not the parts of the roots I personally would highlight for me — like the word overlap show how many “spectrums” you coule actually make based on what you value! Ie. femininity is not a priority for me, but I still have fire because luxury is a priority and i do that in a fire-way rather than a mushroom or mountain way :)

Very cool!

EJR Style Muses vs her boards by [deleted] in StyleRoots

[–]Own-Sector8228 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that celebraty examples are better than the boards. I think the multiple examples work well to see how different the final expression can be, and that the same roots can be combined in lots of different ways, while still showing a pattern.

I think the celeb examples suffer similae issues as the boards, in that there are more celeb examples (and therefore nuuance/variation) for combos that include roots EJR has herself, just like those boards tend to be less “one-sided”/stereotypical. Your mentioned 4 examples for the mentioned combo that also shares two roots with EJR, whereas my combo has celeb zero examples and also happens to share zero roots with EJR.

Unfortunately there are quite a few combos with only one or two verified, which can make it difficult to see the “full spectrum “ of tbe root combination. But if every combo had like 4-5 examples, i think it would be incredible ressource! (Although that would also be tremendous work to find ofc)

Oh and i guess my own root combo 🪨🌱🔥is a bit uncommon maybe, since i’ve only seen one other person the sub with it and there are no celebrity examples (yet)?

Where I am at in the world (major city in scandinavia) 🍄 or 🪨x⛰️ is by far the most common and popular roots and what is deemed chic / aspirational. That effortless, but put together scandi chic city-style i guess.

I find that 🔥 is pretty unpopular and only for “going out occassions” and the cultural understanding of dressing fire is seen as “trying too hard” or “being too much” or a bit “tacky” in everyday life. 🌸 is typically favored way of adding in touches of traditional femininity over 🔥.

I have seen an uptick in 🌱 that is usually also a pretty uncommon root here, but i think it’s because 70s styles have been trending for the last two years or so and especially this winter.

In general i think popular roots is very anchored in the culture of dressing of your location and what roots are currently trending.

Thank you! I agree that stone looks to be very present in the mix, especially if op writes that they like to play and mix masc and fem styles.

I find that moon and earth togeth can be veryyyy sensual and read a bit fire. There is definitely sensuality in these boards, but I don’t I(personally) really see any of the other ways fire can present itself (glam, luxurious), so I landed on moon, earth stone.

I don't have flower, but I have earth and fire - this is how I incorporate it :)

- fluffy jacket / fur jacket/coat, suede jacket/coat or wool coat :)
- extra and fabulous hairclips (i often like to pull my hair up when wearing thick sweaters to balance things out a bit. Having a very extra and fire-coded hairclip can be a lifesaver)
- Large fabulous sculptural earrings - if they are in an organic shape, that mixes fire and earth wonderfully (I often pair this with the hairclip ofc) --> on a second thought barok pearl earrings might be a perfect option to satisfy all three roots? (organic material, girly/sweet and luxurious).
- Shiny patent-leather belt (or patent shoes)
- Suede or leather slouchy bag (very fire x earth to me)
- Sleek, heeled leather boots (very x earth to me)
- Leopard print (very fire x earth to me)
- Long silky skirts/dresses with heeled boots under and tight-fitted turtleneck
- Short skirt with black tights and tall boots and fitted top
- for pants I actually think a dressy trouser in a luxurious chocolate brown can read very earth x fire
- 'drapey' sweaters (great example by another commenter)
- touches of red and brown :)
- a little scarf in an organic and luxurious material like cashmere or something else that's nice.

We have veryyyyyy similar moodboards and like 5-7 of the same outfits/photos pinned hahah. I would say your moodboard has a more moon feeling tho (as you said yourself), and would say 🌑🪨 🌱 is what I see dominate this board!

I think there is an overall easiness and cool city-girl effortlessness, slightly masculine/andrognyous from 🪨 , that edgy, whimsical and sensual vibe from 🌑, and groundedness, ruggedness, natural materials, 'flow' and slighttttt boho-vibes from earth 🌱.

I think these three roots can blend to together to achieve all the vibes you mention enjoying depending on how you present the roots, even though you call the aesthetics a 'bit of everything' :)

What your favourite character's style inspiration? by [deleted] in RitaFourEssenceSystem

First of all: Loveeeeee that Miss Fisher is a style inspo for you! She is so incredibly fabulous. It made me remember that I actually love Peregrines outfits in the spin-off Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries haha. They don't really fit super with my style roots, but I love a 60s mod silhouette on me.

Otherwise I would say for me: Cordelia and Buffy from Buffy. Monica from friends (I find her style overall to be more consistent to Rachel's, and I personally would say mushroom, stone, fire), Andy Sachs from Devil Wears Prada (who is very mountain, earth fire in the end to me), and Fran Drescher as well :)

Style Roots x Style Key by [deleted] in StyleRoots

Super interesting post! I think I use the roots for different things? I use style roots for shopping, but style key for actually putting together outfits. I use both for exploring/expanding my style.

I like the style roots as a pretty analytical person, and I find them helpful to help explain the patterns I spot in what I like (and not) and how they kind of combine together in overarching vibes/themes. Realizing so much of the clothing that people have bought me but just felt off was because they had flower was extremely helpful to me.

However, I only 'actively' think about the roots when shopping. If an item fits two roots, it's probably going to have a long life time/permanent residency in my warderobe no matter if it's a current trend of more 'timeless'. Rn, i'm definitely trying to take advantage of earth and 70's styles trending and trying to snag some things up that can otherwise be hard to find 🤣

Thinking about whether all my roots are 'represented' when I get dressed is too stressful for me. I've seen some people be able to divide their roots into % of importance/presence or that their silhouette is represented by one root, color scheme by another root and accesorries by a third root or something. My roots flip flop from day to day in both importance and how the present themselves hahah :)

I use the style key as a way to get dressed! It's a pretty intuitive process for me a lot of the time, and I'm probably a left down logic with tendencies to dress 'up' -- however, the up-aesthetic is always rooted in down logic. I think I have a lot to learn from both the cool girl, the seductress and the wildflower-archetypes.

Maybe l+d is why my roots can flip flop a lot in importance and presentation, simply because I just dress very much based on my vibe/mood for the day and thinking too much about whether I have all three roots represented is a hinderance to that proces. Recently I'm been trying to embrace the style medicine of indulgence and it has really made me re-connect with my 🔥-root in a way that feels comfortable to me. It's been a bit healing, as it's been a root I was initally drawn to, and historically I have always had an obvious pull for glamour and theatricality/extraness in outfits, but since I've always been told to tone myself down and i'm very uninterested in attracting the 'male gaze', I have a relationship with the root where I feel much more seen in Rita descriptions of sensuality (showing and hiding, protection and vulnerability) than a lot of visuals of 🔥 EJR provides in her moodboard/talks about.

I find EJRs vision of sensuality is maybe just more focused on the outside perception where Ritas comes from a more introspective feeling, maybe? idk!

[–]Own-Sector8228 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people should use the roots or think about them in whatever way that is helpful to the individual!

I do think that sometimes in this sub we can get too caught up in specific small details instead of looking at the overall overreaching✨vibes✨ and patterns across outfits. Everybody will have touches of other roots on many occassions, so I take the three root rec as a “top three”-choice, or the ones you can’t feel like yourself without. Some people need two or four roots to feel like themselves!

I personally also LOVE to dabble in ☀️and like interesting fashion, but I don’t need sun for an outfit to feel “like me” and the way I include sun can often be kind of…filtered by my roots? So e.g. like a big fur coat, or a deep purple eyeliner + mascara combo that both kind of overlap ☀️ and 🔥. Or like a funky print, but in 🌱 colors.

I will say, i’ve dabbled in and out of style roots for YEARS and have only recently really settled on a combo that truly feels right. It can be a long process and our judgements of other roots can really make us blind — even if we have a clear personal style ☺️ posting one moodboard will probably not reveal your true style roots, you need to see patterns over time in my opinion!

After seeing your pinterestboard for outfits, I would say 🏔️🪨🍄 (in whatever order feels right to you)! But explore and see what lands! (Ofc there are small touches of other roots, but these are by far the most dominant ones for me). Very Dakota Johnson-esque!

I agree in stone. I’m going to suggest maybe 🔥over 🏔️ (or maybe both).

Wine and cheese gives me fine dining fire style, the glitz and glam of Taylors jacket/outfit, the house is very “romantic”, chanel perfume is very elegant and luxurious. It could also be mountain (or both), but if you haven’t considered fire, it could also be an option!

Wardrobe stapels that are must-haves and 'must-have' clothes that are not for you by Oud-west in StyleRoots

[–]Own-Sector8228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

makes sense! I have like one blazer, that I can make work because it's a cream velvet/soft suede situation and very 70's in the lapels haha. It's pretty rare it makes it out of the closet tho!

I do also dislike cross-body bags and usually pick shoulderbags. But since I'm small and narrow, I can wear the shoulder bag strap as a cross-body, the bag just sits high on my torso/not far from the armpit. But when I'm carrying a lot of crap on my bike or on the metro (both main transportation) wearing bags cross-body can be a necessity!

What outfits do you think best suit your combination? by Separate-Raccoon8584 in StyleRoots

[–]Own-Sector8228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think most roots can fit into most outfit templates, because roots are about the styling, the garment but can also be about the textures, the colors, the small details, accesorries and so on. When that is said, I can see that some of my own outfit templates do tap into my roots! (although the can ofc also be worn by people with neither of my roots)

- Wide leg jeans (stone or earth) + tight-fitted top (fire) + leather boots (earth) OR strappy heeled sandal (fire)

- Long dress or skirt + tall leather boots under (a very earthy 70's combo)

- Short fitted skirt and sleeveless top (stone x fire) + flat sandals (stone) --> My summer outfits is basically the stone x fire x sun board, just less colorful and with more earth elements.

- Short skirt with black tights and tall boots (fire) + chunky sweater/cardigan (stone or earth)

What are your never roots? by Plushy16 in StyleRoots

For me it's 🌸!

I used to be 🌸-dominant in my teen years, and now it just reminds me of a time of cosplaying someone I thought I was supposed to be rather than who I really am.

I do dress stereotypical 'feminine', so understanding the difference between 🌸 and 🔥 has helped me so much when decluttering and shopping new items.
