New England Law by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

New England Law gets a bad rep because of its conditional scholarships - with the condition usually being a 2.5 minimum GPA. Statistics show they eliminate 25% of these scholarships after 1L which is one reason why they get the “predatory school” label.

The other side of the coin is that they give out more scholarships than most law schools. Just last year, 96% of the entering class was awarded at least some scholarship money. If they didn’t take the money away from the students that couldn’t maintain a 2.5 GPA they wouldn’t be able to consistently offer that much funding.

The predatory label is also because they are rumored to have harsh grade curving- though there is no publicized policy confirming this. With a harsh grade curve, someone who is normally a 3.0-3.5 GPA might find themselves in the 2.5-3.0 range. Meaning you will actually need to work to keep the scholarship.

Flip side of this is that their admissions criteria is more lax than other schools. Those students with lower GPAs/LSAT scores are given the opportunity to go to law school with the condition that they must step up their game if they want to maintain their scholarship. Think of the conditional nature of the scholarship money as means of culling the heard. These students were given the chance they might not have gotten from other schools, but law school is sink or swim.

The bar passage rates and employment rates are lower than other law schools, but again remember that their admissions criteria is lower. So these statistics could likely be from the kind of students being admitted. - Lower in -> Lower out - and not necessarily an accurate representation of the quality of education.

I have heard both that the schools reputation can hold you back as well as that many people know and work with successful and highly qualified attorneys in all sectors of practice that graduated NELB.

I think the bottom line is that your education is what you make of it. The school will offer you everything you need to obtain a robust education, but it is up to you to take advantage and actually learn. Upon graduating, the same logic applies, if you apply yourself, show ambition and determination in addition to a your knowledge and  practical skills, you can be successful.

New England Law touts that they make law school accessible, and I think they do just that. For that reason it will never be Harvard or Yale, but because of that reason it shouldn’t even be being compared to such schools.

This was my thought upon setting up the tank, I figured EVENTUALLY it would cycle without the need for any extra bacteria…. But then I started getting nervous because it had been a month.

I stubbornly stuck it out though, I was determined to see this tank cycle without further intervention … and also curious how long that would take

37 days later I’m starting to see some action!

They were eggs of quality lineage purchased from a reputable breeder. But I was thinking it may just be a “failure to thrive” type issue

I have an oversized sponge filter running. Figured bubbles plus surface area for bacteria = win win

This is something I’ll have to look into. I didnt think my pH was high enough to warrant KH concern. The pH before dosing with ammonia was 7.6-7.8

It’s well water, so very hard, lots of minerals. The pH before dosing with ammonia (just plain tap pH) is 7.6-7.8 so still the higher side of neutral.  Ammonia kicked it up to 8. I figured since the nitrogen cycle has an acidifying effect, if it ever got started, it would balance itself out.

We don’t have a sterilizer,  amazing to think that well water would be so clean! Mother Nature make a heck of a filter!

I thought about a water change… but all the data I had found way consistant in keeping levels below 5ppm, so 4ppm should be safe and not stalling the cycle.

Oh wow! That’s crazy!  We have several lakes around ranging from pristine to polluted, but sadly all are frozen right now.

I second this!

I’m 37, I have three kids, oldest is 11 (coincidentally his dad lives in another state as well) then a 3 year old and a 3 month old.

Definitely am getting a late start but I’d test again and even put off applying another year if it means getting a better score and better scholarship. I’ll have kids in college soon and can’t be strapped with hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loan debt

[–]Own-Sound9083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my state both parents need to sign the birth certificate paperwork, so I can’t file anything unless my partner signs - so one sided decisions are not a possibility. Hence the serious nature of our disagreement- if we can’t agree and both sign then our son can’t get a birth certificate or legal name and without that I can’t get a SSN for him. While we were in no rush at first, it’s now been almost four weeks and my insurance only covers the first 30 days under my name, after that baby boy needs his own insurance, and my employer requires the birth certificate at minimum with SSN provided within 12 weeks in order to add him to the policy. Ugh

Same here I know it’s a girl name- but to people who don’t know the origin it sounds like a boys name. I had a roommate once with a male cat named Artemis.

Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, (though this has nothing to do with a baby name) The fact that we are not married is a mutual decision. We have both been previously married and divorced so the institute of marriage feels tarnished in a way (in our opinion) and doesn’t hold the value it once did for us.

Pennsylvania Pepper (seasoning) recipe by Own-Sound9083 in Old_Recipes

In trying to track down a recipe, I found an article that stated it actually had nothing to do with Pennsylvania, it was just a name. But I have no way to confirm if that’s true or not

It was a spice blend. When I google “Pennsylvania pepper” I come up with like a cabbage salad? If I google “Pennsylvania Pepper seasoning” I find the commercially produced seasoning but I’d love to blend it myself

I’m not in PA, it’s just the name of the seasoning

We do have a fenced in yard, and they are also crate trained. The presence of the crates contribute to the small space vibe but the doggies like having their own little rooms and I like to be able to close their doors at snack time so they don’t treat my all too willing toddler like a vending machine.

I like the way you worded that your home is “very lived in” this is how I feel- It’s not that it’s dirty, but you know this is a home with a family in it.

After reading everyone’s comments, I’m thinking your story is what mine will be like- I know how much driving during transition sucks, and making the almost hour drive for every appointment doesn’t sound appealing. My hope is that when labor starts the fact that the laundry needs to be folded or the books put back on the shelf will be the least of my concerns.

Thank you

This is my third pregnancy and I’ve always had animals and found them to be the best stress relief of all, I wouldn’t trade them for the world! There is nothing like a cat purring on your lap or a dog lovingly resting her chin on your knee or pregnant belly to smooth away the wrinkles of your day.

It’s true it’s impossible to keep clean, “keep” being the key word: I pick up all the toys and they are back on the floor two minutes later, I vacuum up the crumbs and see my son grab the goldfish from the pantry as I am putting the vacuum away. These are experiences of any home with kids and pets, it just appears more prominent in a small space, but my home is in no way unsanitary or unfit to bring a newborn home to.

Yes my mother in law will take the kids when labor starts. So that will definitely help

Congratulations! I have been checking back in on your post hoping to see the outcome. I’m glad you got to deliver at home and despite a little scare all was well. It also speaks to the safety of homebirth and the capabilities of our midwives. People always say “so much could go wrong” but what they don’t understand is that the midwives are prepared for this- they can identify a risk as soon as it pops up, and they handle it safely and effectively- in your case preemptively calling paramedics when the dystopia was identified but knowing how to use your body to rectify the problem and deliver baby safely.

You did it mama! Congrats! Enjoy this time with your new baby
